  1. this is about 40 MB/s. about the same as redcode 42. compression ratio is about 8. workable but not the best quality.
  2. I cannot vote this, because I think both have their applications. for example, at the beginning of the story, typically there are some shots on whole view of the scene, I think it is better to be sharp. but for close up shots of actresses, dreamy look is much more forgiving and pleasant. ideally, the former ones will use red helium 8k with Zeiss master prime, the latter ones use Alexa with cooke or Leica c lenses.
  3. lens plays a critical role in the sharpness of the final image. I just checked my previous footage using em5 and shg 7-14. it looks punchy and colorful. I edited it in the lightsight free version, so the output is just 720p, but looks sharper than my c300 og 1080p c log footage. shg 7-14 plays a critical role here. em5's video modes are not good at all according to current criteria. definitely not as high res as c300 og. interesting findings. never thought about this.
  4. this is about people, probably cooke or Leica lenses are more suitable.
  5. interesting comparison. in the first scene, somehow the pocket 3 seems much brighter than ace pro. I guess that the lenses are different. ace pro uses wider lens, pocket 3 uses relative normal lens. in general, pocket 3 has at least comparable low light performance as ace pro. if look more carefully, the street lamps taken by pocket 3 have less blur or more defined than the ones taken by ace pro. i guess that pocket 3's lens may be higher quality than the ace pro. but it is hard to say, as wider lenses generally are more difficult to make and less perfect. or maybe the lens coating is different somehow.
  6. This place probably is at the east coast of USA, may be Yale. The low light performance seems not as good as the action pro 8k somehow, may be a little bit better than go pro 12, not much. you are right, the lowest shutter setting of 24p with 1/24 sec shutter speed has one stop better light advantage over 60p 1/60 sec. The stabilization is pretty good, at least as good as go pro 12, may be a little better. The walking is almost steadicam or gimbal like.

    Lumix S9

are you a man band? if so, how can you manage several camera setups at the same time? I have several cameras I want to bring to some events. just feel not safe as I am totally focused when shooting. if someone else steal my rigs, I may not know.

    Lumix S9

how about s9's ibis? as good as s5 ii?
  9. interesting to know. c mount lenses are affordable and diverse. this really helps GoPro. Thanks for the info.

    Lumix S9

seems to me that s9 is an experimental product, will take at least another two versions to be mature enough.
  11. I think good olpf makes the look better than just soft, just like leica lenses, soft gel like but high res.
  12. nowadays I rig my cameras with specific lenses, like one cam one lens, sort of like fix lens cam. it takes time to figure out the cam and the lens combo. if the cam and the lens are integrated, the whole rig can be much smaller than interchangeable lens mount.
  13. I hope that the camera companies can come up with a m43/43 sensor fixed lens action cam. this way it will solve most of the low light issue.
  14. this is significantly better than go pro 12.
  15. it is good to know ace pro 8k has good low light. I will keep an eye on it. thanks for your knowledge. technology has developed to a degree that much previous thinking is not intuitively right.
  16. I think for events, go pro 12 5k is pretty good for daylight shooting. I tried several times on some events. truly pocket size, fast moving, everything is fine. if wanting to go 8k, I think insta360 or other action cams can do. the real problem for these small sensor action cams is the low light performance. I tried once and never wanted to do anything with them after the evening. I think a full frame 4k camera is needed for night. 8k ff is good for reframing, which sometimes is important for events, but the low light may suffer comparing to 4k ff.
  17. I forgot that you do events for a living. never mind.
  18. you don't want 120p for slow motion?
  19. probably when gh8 is 8k, its 2x mode will be 4k, it is 2/3 4k. very interesting.
  20. from another thread Another little gem form Filippo Chiesa. Reading the comments: Quote Excellent work. Congratulations. Given the absence of camera movement, I ask you why you decided to use the light and handy GH5s despite having the EVA1, which would have at least benefited from a native iso of 2500. His reply: Quote Thank you Giancarmine! I didn't go above 800 ISO in this video. I own the VariCam LT which even has a dual ISO system at 800 ISO and 5000 ISO. The GH5S also has a dual ISO system at 400 ISO and 2500 ISO (almost the same as the EVA1). I didn't use the GH5S for the handling, but because it is a big, small MDP that has a beautiful sensor and has colour science from a higher-ranking camera. They deliberately limited it to 12 stops of DR because, unlike its sister GH5, it would be able to go up to 14 stops of DR. The GH5 was already a beautiful and affordable camera; with the GH5S they have outdone themselves (and I am not referring to ISO). I am happy because, in so many situations, I will be able to use the GH5S alongside my VariCam (as a B camera) without the worry of the usual compromises. seems gh5s is the best? if don't mind the gh7' af, which one has the best video iq, gh5, gh5ii,gh5s,gh6,gh7?
  21. "FHD 60p mode in 2x digital crop" interesting. can you explain more about this mode? is this 1080p 60p, and you have 2x digital zoom? this mode supposes to be 2/3 sensor size, 224 mm2 / 4 = 58.5 mm2. why is this different from etc 2x?
  22. now om-1/ii can do 120fps.
  23. red is famous for high frame rate, high resolution. om-1 mk ii can do 120 fps for 200 frames, this is 8 seconds 120 fps 6k uncompressed 12 bit raw. om-1 can 120 fps for 100 frames, this is about 4 seconds of 120 fps 6k uncompressed 12 bit raw. image quality of om-1 /ii should be stunning. for music tv, commercial, etc, 120 fps 6k slow motion is well enough. when I say 4 seconds of om-1, it is 4 seconds of play back time in 24 fps.
  24. I think your peak camera lies in taking videos in the most original mode. when video or movie was invented more than 100 years ago, movie cameras were motorized or manual operated to have 16 frames per second. They were motorized photo cameras taking each frame like a photo and taking 16 frames per second. Now, some cameras can do that. Like OM-1 can 120 fps for 100 frames, GH6/GH7 can do 60 fps for 200 frames, S5 2x 30 fps 200 frames, Z6 iii 20 fps for 1000 frames. These are true lossless raw, either 12 bit or 14 bit. They are the highest quality one can get even in a cinema video camera. Although 3-5 seconds, this is enough for many applications. For long events or meeting, nobody cares much about peak image quality. This is why I am eyeing OM-1 deals, as it can do this peak mode, also 10-bit FHD all-I 160 mbps up to 30 fps. With these two modes, plus the legendary ibis, I can keep the whole rig very small, yet reaching the level of Alexa Red Sony cinema cameras.
  25. pannysvhs/sanve4er, fuck you. never mention me with this scammer Ebrahim Saalawi. if you are really a decent man, stop this by-topic and focus on gh7.
