  1. i think s9 is much more enticing, as it is only $500 more expensive than this one, but with the best full frame ibis, and is full frame if only ibis no eis high. if go ibis plus eis high, s9 is s35, but very usable for handheld footage.
  2. is there ai for music? i actually really need beautiful original music for my videos. i like classic music. some music pieces like blue danube, tristesse, etc, will be nice. i imagine that i type in some key words, like strauss, blue danube, and there is some music created by ai similarly beautiful. it is my dream.
  3. af100 has probably the strongest olpf, the resolution and the color are all impacted. but no matter what I do, there is no moire, alias, sharpening artifacts showing up.
  4. pdaf may pulse too. my c300 og is upgraded to dpaf. I used it for continuous af. at infinity for landscape, I can see it pulse. I have to use one shot af to force the lens to stay at infinity, then pan or tilt. for subjects 3-5 meters away during an event, c300 og dpaf works fine, I have not seen significant pulse. c100 mk ii dpaf is much more reliable. at infinity, I don't see pulse on c100 mk ii.
  5. strong olpf has its pros but has its cons too. I feel that the c300 og and r1mx color kind of is impacted. the sensor and the olpf may tune for the skin tones, so there is no issue there. but if you do landscape, the color hue is not as rich as 5d3 and f3. f3 may be the best in the crop. I assume other filters may affect the image quality in a good way, and maybe bring some cons too.
  6. I feel that c300 og has a strong olpf, more than c100 mk ii, but less than r1mx. I think for c300 og and r1mx, there is no need for filters, unless in very special situations.
  7. this guy used pro mist 1/8 on his s5iix and penny 24-70 f2.8. image quality is pretty good. actually, I compare this video to my c300 og video. if doing pixel peeping, yes, there is more details in s5iix. but if looking at the whole picture, the final footage on YouTube (YouTube compression may affect) is comparable on my laptop screen. considering most of the YouTube viewers are using their phones and iPads, I doubt if viewers will see the difference. I think human eyes have certain threshold on image quality parameters, like resolution, contrast, dr, etc.
  8. I think olympus will stay in m43, as olympus is always for small camera bodies and lenses, ever since the film camera days. not sure about panasonic. gh7 is already very mature. gh8 needs in camera nd and 6k 60p prores raw hq to justify upgrading. i will not upgrade to gh8 unless it has nd. i think gh7 will last me at least 10 years, even further. i like to buy gear last very long term, because i don't like the hassle to sell my gears on ebay.
  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vimrXLkIWmY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFs_pPJeHAs GH7 with some wide aperture lenses seems blurring the background optimally. You can still see the background information, but not clear enough to compete with the talent in focus. This is actually what I want to get when I do events. Total bokur of the background, you don't know if the talent is in a studio or in an event venue. So I think once the bokur fever is gone after the introduction of the 5d2, m43 is ok in this category. for the low light, ff is certainly better than m43. but there was a rule set by a famous photo journalist. he said: if it is too dark, i will not shoot. he took at most two to three lenses with him, 35mm, 50mm. and he used his legs for zooming. i forgot his name. i think as long as you set the boundaries, m43 is a very nice format. i shoot mostly during the day light on streets, ibis, certainly level of bokur, af or mf, these are a good package for me. i know some dps intentionally shoot at very low available light, which sometimes presents very different stories not seen in day light time period. i guess if that is the area to establish, maybe special cameras and lenses are needed, probably medium format cameras like gfx100, working in pixel binning mode to 20 mp or 25 mp, so that huge pixels can have good low light performance, and some really big medium format f2 lenses. even going further, ir camera modes and lenses can be used.
  10. seems to me that in the current paradigm small formats are getting more and more popular, due to the better stabilization and smaller total rig size, m43 cams, 1 inch cams and iphones, half inch go pros, etc. ff really needs to be special to be attractive. personally, i'd be interested in an action cam version of s9, a ff version of go pro 12. i think there is still a big market for serious ff handheld shooting too, as s5ii/x excel(s) now. on the other hand, as people go ff, they actually are more serious and pickier, so gimbal or tripod or monopod may be more suitable or more ubiquitous.
  11. i will buy an om-1 for my mf lenses handheld shooting. very possibly i will buy a gh7 for mf lenses and in camera raw. for ff experience, i will use my trusty 5d3ml and 16-35mm f4 l. mf lenses on 5d3ml requires tripods or gimbals. yeh. will wait for another 10 years to see how the paradigm shifts.
  12. iphone 15 pro max video stabilization is excellent, at least as good as go pro 12. resolution is good enough by today's standard. af sometimes hunts in rare cases. bravo. is this a m3 equivalent? maybe. so many people have this tool now.
  13. this is the last one. I will not post YouTube test any more. seems to my eyes, ibis wise, 1. s1h is significantly better than s5 2. surprisingly, gh5 is significantly better than s5 (gh5 ibis is really out of my expectation) 3. s5 is better than Nikon and Sony.
  14. this guy tested s5ii using the latest firmware. his conclusion is that if the talent is just walking, s5iix ibis using e-stab high at s35 crop can be gimbal like. the footage seems smooth to my eyes. this is really good. as I remember that the steadicam can only do 50mm well, over 50mm it is hard to stabilize.
  15. hcb used m3 and created a new area of photo journalism. I always wanted to have m3 equivalent for video news. now go pro 12, and maybe s9 are possibly the tools for this. Alexa is like lf at the time of hcb, nobody has doubt about the lf cameras. they are good for something, but new tools create new areas. exciting time.
  16. I think you are right, in big budget feature, the established workflow is already very good. a camera with 10 bit 422 or 12 bit raw, steadicam, dolly, jib, lighting, etc are actually good enough. as the environment is controlled, I doubt that alexa35's 17 stops dr is truly essential over the 12-year old Alexa ev except the newer cameras may be less prone to onsite errors.
  17. I do news and events. I am an one man band.
  18. this is great. then except being small, rx100 v has not major advantage.
  19. From a pure lab test perspective, it seems that there is no gain without pain: the new LUMIX S5 II has nice new features including solid autofocus, but unfortunately in the lab, it falls a bit behind the previous generation, the S5 – when pushed to the absolute extreme, to keep things in perspective. Not only is the rolling shutter worse (1ms more in full frame, 1.8ms more in APS-C), also the latitude result is not as good – it finishes with 7 stops of exposure latitude, mainly because of banding artifacts in the shadows and a more blotchy noise pattern which doesn’t look as pleasing to the eye. That said, the dynamic range results are very similar to the previous generation LUMIX S5. from cined test.
  20. af, dr of gh7 is as good as fx30. kudos to gh7.
  21. when the new generation dps grow and move up the ladder, they may prefer the latest hybrids more and more as they are used to ibis and c-af.
  22. rx100v does not have the integrated gimbal, not sure if you can walk with it. I think rx100v is 1 inch sensor, so may be better in low light, a little bit, not much though.
  23. the only old hybrids that are really good in image quality even by today's standards are magic lantern cameras, 5d3ml, crop mood 700d/650d/100d/eos m.
  24. the best of the old mirrorless may have good enough resolution, but lacks in dr severely. also the evf and lcd resolution are outdated. the bes of the old cinema cameras like f35, Alexa ev, red dragon still hold their own against the latest mirrorless in terms of image quality, maybe surpass in some aspects.
