Yes, at least for A9 stacked sensor. The larger pixels will probably balance it out. A9 is 24MP this is half that.
-
Looks like a stacked 12MP sensor (could potentially be quad-bayer but unlikely stacked and quad). Same tech in A9ii just lower MP. I suspect the readout speed will be blistering with no RS problems at all. Looks good to me. FF doesn’t need a quad-Bayer sensor anyway, unless you like to shoot only in moon light. Noise performance will most likely be more than acceptable, stellar even. Now, the big question is bitrates and codec and IBIS. Will they have this outperform their FX-9 darling? Doubt it,

Nikon will announce Z6s/Z7s updates, with dual card slots and 4K 60fps

Dual processors being advertised...uh oh. Olympus did the same thing and they are headed for the exits. Usually means lack of funds for investing in better tech. -
They do! They want you to buy CanOn C200/300/500 and hopefully we will get a new C100 or XC style RF Mount camera. There was no-way Canon was going to release an R5 with unlimited 8K/4K120p, oversampled 4K video with DPAF in all modes without some cripple hammering. Let’s get real. What they did release was excellent hybrid cameras. If anything they drew a solid line in the sand about their philosophy going forward. They very much see their Cinema line as the place to go for video work. I think its an exciting release, overheating gotchas and all.

Yes, they have had a complete package for 3 years now minus AF. You would think it would be essential for them to get it right this time... GH5 got more things right then wrong, by far. They could add PDAF, keep the current feature set and maybe add 10-bit in all modes and they would be competing with the latest cameras just released. It doesn’t have to be PDAF or whatever. It could be mythical perfect DfD system if the hunting is gone, the pulsing is not noticeable, and it tracks correctly. So for as much as 2020 has sucked ass, its shaping up to be an exciting camera year.

Canon EOS R5 has serious overheating issues – in both 4K and 8K

Product segmentation, perhaps? I think there has been 4 important aspects of the R5 release: 1) internal RAW took a baby step to becoming mainstream. 2) 10-bit 4:2:2 Log recording is the new baseline. 3) 4K HFR (anything higher than 60p) is the new slow motion benchmark. 4) You no longer need gloves in the winter when operating your mirrorless camera. -

Yes, and almost nothing is being processed when you shooting 12-but RAW. It’s just basically wrapping it in a container and dumping it to memory card. -

And charge $10,000 to get rid of the record and temperature limits. Profit! -

There are other factors too. The size of the process node (40nm, 22nm, 14nm?) the CPU and ISP are made on. I suspect all the camera manufactures are behind or can’t get those chips on newer node sizes. There is a reason an IPhone 11 Pro with a Apple built A13 SoC at 7nm can do amazing things in a tiny phone. You can edit 4K video on that thing and export it faster than an IMac in some cases. All passive cooling in a form factor 20x smaller than an R5. I think the problem lies with the ISP chips that are handling the RAW data, as most of the newer cameras are using ARM based off the shelf CPUs for the UI, IO, and operating systems on the cameras. Would love to see someone open up an R5 and see what’s inside and see what they did to control heat. What chips they are using. -
I’m really hoping to see some reliable AF tech in a GH6. Otherwise, depending on what the A7Siii brings I’ll be investing in either canon or Sony moving forward. Sony doesn’t inspire me as much for whatever reason.

I’m very curious of this as well. Especially the 4K modes. -

They should have looked at what Sigma did with the fp and tried to do something similar. I believe the S1H has a vent with a fan but there isn’t actually any exposure to the internals as I think that cameras has a heatpipe and heatsink on the inside and the fan blows on the other side of the heat sink to cool it. So water or gunk could mess up the van but not get inside. I could be wrong on this. I don’t see any other way to water seal it otherwise. The camera manufactures need to start getting clever on how to cool things down. They could incorporate cheeky heatsink/heatpipe on the bottom of the camera, or a heatpipe that attaches to the 1/4-20 at the bottom so when you screw in a tripod or quick release heat can move from inside to outside (🧐 good opprotunity there for a weekend warrior with a CNC machine to cash in!). -

Definitely wait! If it has the AF that can compete. Otherwise, it will most likely be ignored. So hoping Panny can sort it out because they make great workhorse cameras like it's been said many times. Yup, that and the 4K120p. Although, sounds like you'll need a beast of a computer to edit those files. Hopefully the camera can cool down enough between relatively short 1-10 minute active recordings (where you stop recording, reframe, change settings, etc...) and when you hit the record button again. IF it can't then I can see some major problems for users. Not being able to do long form stuff in 4K is shitty. Maybe its hardware related, maybe its the cripple hammer. I'm sure we will know soon enough. -

BTW, @Andrew Reid thanks for including feedback from the forum in steering or informing the questions you'll be asking Panasonic in these interviews. Hopefully you can get more of these in the future. -

Maybe. I fear the stigma over DfD cannot be overcome regardless of the future performance improvements. -

I'm not giving up on believing they can deliver something. It's just that the market has changed and having reliable AF available (doesn't mean you have to use it!) is becoming a must-have feature these days. Just having a really solid, rich 6K or 4K image and the ability to do ProRes RAW via HDMI isn't as appealing anymore when (pending more hands-on tests) the R5/R6/A7SIII gives us that and solid AF. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, it's becoming hard and harder to look the other way on Panasonics AF woes when the competition is starting to offer features that pretty much use to be the sole domain of GH4/GH5 in the sub $3K market. So they need to kinda have something compelling if their AF is bottom tier, hence my questions I wrote in this thread for Andrew to potentially ask. What's their plan?...because I have fairly expensive MFT gear, and with Olympus out of the game, and the camera industry contracting like it is, I'm evaluating what system to spend my hard earned cash in for the next 5+ years. It's important they have a clear answer. -

I would like to see a GH6 with something like a modified version of that rumored 42 (or was it 56?) MP quad-Bayer STARVIS sensor. Where we could have the possibility for a high MP photo mode and a quad-Bayer, dual gain, or dual gain output video mode for 4K24p to 120p. Unlimited recording in ALL-I and IPB. Oversampled 4K and 1080p. The R5 and A7SIII will set the bar, hopefully Panasonic can jump over it with the GH6 because in my opinion they will need to to stay relevant in todays market. Sony and Canon are now sitting at the 10-bit 4K table and looking at Panasonics lunch. -

Info is coming straight from Canon...not a rumor. Which I’m glad for as it makes it easier to make an informed buying decision!
