LOL Right. That title. The marketing...
It is not only on lack of features. But attitude. I think this brand is overestimated. Fanboys see it like the last return of the Savior. That's not what my experience tells me. Let alone the business perspective someone might expect from a company too centered on the broadcast segment when the media convergence is changing this industry. It is only a distinct viewpoint. But people seem to rather listen or see flowers about...

Who? You. You are not everyone, man. Not at all. Come here to call dictator to someone else... LOL
I do it, as for instance. Not idea in your background, but I categorize a camera under different perspectives, being price range one of them. Speaks two decades and a half on this industry ; -)

Guys, @shooter and @greenscreen are obviously trolls in this thread. Andrew recently did a post about companies sending in people to the forum, it definitely could be these two he means.
I suggest not feediing them for a while and we will see what happens.Bots and paid trolls are usually an impatient bunch.

Common sense. Lack of common sense isn't good for me as customer. You all look like to be part of a sect. Like they are God or something. They didn't send a camera to Andrew Reid, they should know why. How old are you? They're arrogant. Another viewpoint. You think it isn't relevant, what are you doing here?

It is a very good offer. The quibble is with their marketing.
How come they sell thousands of cameras with this thread, yet they didn't send a camera for the guy who owns the site? They should send one for free, as gift. Their marketing is a disaster.

...and their superior color science & acquisition tech, no matter what : ) It is a bit pointless to try pretending to ignore that. Useless IMO. We have the right to favor something else if our IQ standards match fulfilled, though. May the holy grail be beyond pixel peeping ; -)

Competitors are there but they've raised the bar too. I believe there's room for all, trust me, they're not even worried with them.
We arrived to a certain point it's not the major players to ignore innovator companies like Blackmagic anymore, rather the opposite. Numbers, the only God. Who pays the bill, after all? Is it really important to them? It should be...
I don't think this is meaningless. Not only tech is important at least to my book. RED got the love of the clientele because their service, view and respect for their support basis.

Tough business, no more no less.

...a camera or the brand itself? :-X
Hybrid is something a CC will never be but a CC will tend you shoot more motion than stills when not only stills...
I find this camera unique of a kind.
They will be in trouble when X-H2 will be outside though. Albeit only if sooner than later. I guess 2019 shall be a terrific one anyways, maybe from scratch (only price will justify 2018 models by then) already from beginning, very early, perhaps Feb/March if/when X-H2 and GH6 will pop up ; -)

The whole point is BMD guys are slow to compete with hybrid features like AF and IBIS as for instance or even a different camera range in the same segment.
Hybrids arrived to a certain point Jannard's DSMC intended to be. Scarlet 3K for 3K, now lowered to 1K-1.5K (BMD realized that but they struggle to deliver hybrid features).

Funny. The use of focal reducers is exactly the major sale point for MFT IMHO. This, affordable light MFT glass. And C-mount bargains on eBay. And...
...Pocket 4K doesn't fit in the category of small camera bodies though ; -)

I guess 'S' model is over for both Panny and Sony too. We could infer hybrid's milestone. No one can ignore BMD's role whether we like the brand whether not : )
I am like you. Nothing will touch Panny love. Once; it is forever ; ) Let alone YT where no other camera got such spread indeed.
Fujifilm has gotten the best results in the hybrid realm with their aggressive business model now. Seems hybrid shooters are their targeted business today rather than that video world for social media like Panny or broadcast and corporate like Petty's brand.
I wish BMD had their business vision rather than only codecs and color science to be fair. They could and should be further. But seems they don't like you use the word "should" LOL ; -)

I'd tend to never be a fanboy of a company self-centered into the broadcast sector when we live media convergence days as ever before, if some people haven't understood yet.
I don't find hybrids to be bad cinema cameras, rather the opposite or this website wouldn't even exist. Neither this thread with more than half million of views, trust me.
People come here not because they're not happy with their hybrid cinema cameras. Only because they want much more. Hybrids are reaching that one.
As observer and industry player, I'd say 5DII was only the first stone to be followed by that 'S' model by Sony with Panny to include 10-bit 4:2:2 in-camera, now even Fuji has added their 4:2:0 version.
How long up to arrive to the BMD standards? Will it be so long? Is anyone sure of that will be a long road from today? C'mon...
Why that same GH5S sensor? I've even asked to someone top ranked inside BMD, just a few days ago and he was unable to deny it... Disclosed information, he defended himself. Give us a break for a very simple reason: market and its players will dictate that one, step by step, from any incremental introduction now because giant leaps have been taken. Not marketing -- rather different than market(s) who actually establish the rules.

Yes, but I had to download it to add blur from my PotPlayer...
I'd rather look to 'The Color of Light' video and the focal reducer shots (18-35mm f/1.8).
You feel the difference to thinner MFT glass BTW.

tip to do it with embedded videos from vimeo LOL they embedded it on their webpage but they don't allow others to embed it from YT... these autocratic tics from a company like BMD are killing me : X
    download embedded videos on Chrome:
customize and control button on the right corner -> More tools -> Developer tools -> F+Ctrl -> mp4 -> select all & copy -> word processor -> F+Ctrl = resolution chosen -> copy paste link -> click on right to save as wherever you want in your drive as you wish ; -)

Oh no doubt on the handling side you can do a Lot better. But 10,000 bucks is a hell of a long haul from 1000 bucks. And I doubt not many of those even in that price range will beat the ultimate output this thing has. Hell there aren't many that have even beat the original BMPCC at any cost. Raw is a great equalizer.

Out of likes now, guys, thanks for your contribution anyway. Hey Don, I put my 'Horses for Courses' disclaimer up there : D In any case, my ultimate choices nowadays ; ) are P4K and X-H2 for IBIS add-on : D I'd buy the X-T3 instead if I would only have one camera choice today : -)

Interesting points indeed, even though I don't think MFT is useless at all.
On the contrary, it can end much helpful on lightweight side (not the Pocket 4K case anyways, no matter the reasons behind that overheating free route) and versatile choice of glass.
Your mastery can actually shine even more in a world of automated procedures, including of this craft where I see both of them as an added value though, not the opposite.
There's always the possibility of upgrade for something between APS-C and FF much larger going on then, with a focal reducer and that marvelous 18-35mm f/1.8 piece, as for instance ; ) which testifies on the other hand the premise: the larger the more fun we are eager to arrive sooner or later ; -)
However, one of the cinema mounts closer to old film format(s) albeit no less than the '35mm' APS-C, but where we can still find no-brainer bargain offers from one side to rather cheap purchases on ebay, as C-mount end is.
(and I hadn't read your post yet, David, both practically entering at same time when I was basically writing something to refer the same supply plataform)
    : -D

I've seen the 1st footage... You all too, I presume, for sure.
Maybe yet too early for evaluation, my first impression though is Fujifilm beats the new Blackmagic to infer from the institutional imagerie released so far at least. I'd dare to add.
Or only random option of (circumstantial) grading from less fortunate choices by Blackmagic brand to promote their own product?

I don't even mention in features, despite the more versatile choice of glass on MFT side, when not the ludicrous cheap C-mount to couple, or the hybrid advantage versus CC on the other side...
...just the IQ outcome coming from there!

    DSLR now mirrorless movement revenge?

Tasty when not already SOC versus Thin, which means more prone to aliasing issues (no OLPF on both but one gets more than the other as seems), lovely but a bit predictable, not so creamy flexible range like half stop larger APS-C format.

We all know the superior codec offer, let alone the BRAW to upcome from Blackmagic, horses for courses and all that yadda yadda but what about the pudding?

    What are your thoughts?
