  1. Which display do you use to record patches from? We discussed earlier that you don't want to tell what you do with out-of-gamut colors, but maybe you can tell me if those are simply extrapolated or you use some other kind of sorcery, maybe recording a few values from real life? You can reply in private if that's better. The reason I ask is because I also do conversions the same way you do, with my own software, and the values my monitor can't show are extrapolated, which is always to be taken with a grain of salt. I could use some hint from someone with more experience. I'm no competition btw, if that matters.

  4. Looks nice, I got good results from the image-adjustments panel. However it wasn't clear at first what the sliders do, maybe titles would help. Also you should be able to reset a single slider. I can't comment on the color matching yet, but it looks like it does it's job.
  5. Exactly, and you don't really want to use F-Log with 8bit 4:2:0, I have found it to be unreliable even in 8bit 4:2:2 Prores. Sometimes even a simple S curve and a gamut conversion is enough to break it, I think it really needs 10bit, or some tweaking. Let's wait and see if the X-H1 gets it externally. My hopes are pretty low though.
  6. It actually downsamples from a 5120 x 2880 area, it has a 1.17 crop.
  7. Then how do you match with a monitor? You ignore the colors your monitor can't show?
  8. I'm actually a programmer but only a web programmer and I think the math required for this transformation is beyond my skills. I think I would even pay for someone to teach me that, I don't even know where to begin The other problem is the gamut of the displays available today. The one I have only covers sRGB, but even if I get one with Adobe RGB, is that enough for a such a conversion?
  9. Oh that's cool. I wish I had the skills to do something like that. In theory, could you use a wide gamut monitor, record thousands of patches with camera A, then use those measurements as reference, then measure the same patches in camera B and build a conversion LUT the way monitor calibration softwares work? Or is this a completely bad idea?
  10. Is that by any chance 3D LUT Creator? I tried to do profile matching before and I didn't find anything better for that purpose, but I'm interested in more experienced people's recommendations.

  12. You can enable the highlight warning separately in the display custom settings, then it works in video mode too. But unfortunately you are correct about the RGB histogram, there is no way to show that in video mode. I few weeks ago made a video about F-Log, you might find it helpful: As you can see you can live without F-Log, and it's not without problems. I guess you would run into even more problems if it was recorded in-camera with 100Mbps H.264.
