RED cuts prices of Komodo and Komodo-X by up to 30%

Maybe the social work he is referring to is counselling people who bought one two weeks ago at the old price. -

Yeah, I was being a bit presumptuous with the let charging commence thing. The birth of the new renaissance is currently stalled due to the lack of a figure 8 power cable for the charger. -

Mystery solved. I went to my brother’s place to retrieve some outboard gear from my old studio that he had been storing and it turns out that I gave the DX100 to him to give to my niece and he “forgot”. So here it is in its full cased glory with charger, battery and docking station. Let charging commence but I purely to check it powers on etc as I’ll need to go and get all the tapes next week. -

Eh? Sigma had OIS in their lenses years ago and still have it in quite a few now. Just that few of them would benefit the likely users of their Fp cameras.

I was referring to the Komodo range specifically rather than any other future new model. The relationship RED had with Canon for the Komodo extends beyond the lens mount (well, behind it actually) and into the AF system so, again, it would be a way to draw the curtain down on that. -

It certainly is for Matt Granger and his unfeasibly large shorts. He'd have had a good shot at getting a Phantom 4 in them.

In the short term of course but this is tearing the sticking plaster off to stop it as an ongoing issue. Though they might well have no intention to make a Z mount version of it and something different is coming. -

Is this not just them clearing the decks before they bring out a Z mount version ? Can't imagine Nikon being thrilled selling a product that drives customers into the arms of Canon for lenses for it. -

Not a Letus but the same type of deal. It was made by a Canadian company who's name I can't remember for the life of me. Canon had an excellent solution with this for EF-S. They've revisited it now for the RF mount with the 24-105mm f2.8 but its not cheap at £4K (although thats all relative when it comes to servo driven zooms) and, well, its RF so its ideal for Canon only shooters. -

So, business as usual then but you've just shifted the decimal point a couple of places to the left 🙂 -
A busy day at both ends of the pricing spectrum for the L mount alliance. First up is Leica's 70-200mm f2.8 and accompanying 2x Teleconverter. As you might expect, this is at the upper end of the price spectrum at $3295.00 for the lens and $995.00 for the TC. It does have OIS though unlike the next announcement of the day which is the Sigma ART 28-105mm f2.8 Price for this is $1499.00 and will do very well but is it quite wide enough and might they have missed an opportunity here as it may have been better lopping off some of the long end and it being a vastly more cost effective not to mention fixed aperture version of Leica's 24-90mm f2.8-4 ? It still puzzles me why Sigma have dug their heels in about putting OIS on their lenses for a while now when their own cameras would be a huge beneficiary of them.

Well, this is the camera that DJI have announced today. Not quite sure it fits into the the mirrorless disruptor category although it does look like it can fit in your pocket.

I'm now treating the idea of an old Mac Mini to just be the £50 adapter that Apple don't make any more 🙂 -
This is a great ongoing project that is scanning all the major music and recording tech magazines from what I would describe as the golden era for your viewing and nostalgic pleasure. http://www.muzines.co.uk/ I used to devour - and occasionally contribute to - these magazines when I was involved in that industry and whilst I've used the archive for research, I cannot get any kind of feeling going for reading them on a laptop let alone a phone. Conversely, at the weekend, I was at a vintage fair and bought a bunch of football magazines (yes it was Shoot! for those of a certain age) from my youth and they just blow away reading on a Kindle. Similarly, despite being an avid reader on the Kindle, I'm now reading a whole lot more books in paperback. Its not just for the experience either as there has definitely been a slow boiling frog thing going on with Kindle pricing over the past few years, as there has been with all digital media once they have you in their clutches. A shoutout to one of the magazines featured in muzines, by the way, which is Sound On Sound who have managed to have both a very healthy online presence and yet still sit on the shelves of newsagents for coming up to forty years now. https://www.soundonsound.com/

Sadly not. The cards themselves were way too expensive for my wallet ! -

I will likely be over there in a couple of weeks for more sorting so I’ll dig them out and have a go for you. The last time I saw the HV20 it had a spinning 35mm adapter on it so that might be interesting to re-visit! The big challenge might be batteries and/or charger though for it but we’ll see. -
For anyone with a BMMCC (and a 3D printer) looking for the Digital Bolex ergonomics this might be right up your street.

Apple have of course discontinued that adapter so thats a no go. Looks like the 2005 laptop it is then ! The alternative is to buy a dirt cheap 2009 iMac (which have firewire 800 ports and there are plenty that are available around £50) and use that with a £10 dv to Firewire 800 cable. Probably cheaper than the adapters anyway and you can watch the footage being digitised on a very nice screen. Similar vintage MacMinis are also another similarly priced but more compact option. Both types also have enough power to edit the footage on as well for the full retro package ! -

Considering some of the steam powered machines we used in the mid late 90s to transfer with then I'd guess that as long as it has a pulse (and ideally an external drive to write it too) then it should be fine. Which one is it specifically ? I'm writing this on an early 2015 MBA and it has a Thunderbolt 2 port so you might be in luck and only need three adapters. 1394DV to Firewire 400 > Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 > Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 -

By the by, if it is in the UK then this is handy to keep about your person should the boys in blue try to push their luck/ignorance over what is and isn't legal. https://www.met.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/ph/photography-advice#:~:text=Freedom to photograph and film, photographing incidents or police personnel.
