  1. Sigh.  I haven't had any issues with this card (EXCEPT with Panasonic  cameras)- this lineup is great for the price, speed and capacity.  I get 90mb/s read which is twice as fast as the SanDisk extreme that is the same price.  Of course the Lexar is uhs-ii vs SanDisk extreme uhs-i.

That being said I have posted here and there is another blog post (not mine) that says Lexar cards and Panasonic GH line do not play well together.  It makes my camera laggy and on my g7 it once ended a recording. On my gh5 I wrote about the lag issues and my findings.  There is even a YouTube video that shows the Lexar 128gb 1000x lag issue on the GH5 (I had the same issue).

Also... You ejected the card while it was being written to and blame the card???

I love the read speed but due to the Lexar / Panasonic incompatibility I am using the slower SanDisk extreme until uhs-ii prcies come down to the Lexar level.... However in my time using the Lexars in the gh5 dual slots, besides the lag all the files were fine.

I have 6 Lexar 1000x cards and they have worked great for me, bought from Amazon official.  Everyone can make a bad card, but no one can save you if you pull a card while it's being written to...

  2. Uhm... No.

Are you expecting a miracle from it? I've done some fairly long takes with simple movements and it works great especially with ois/ibis.  I think most gimbals benefit from using image stabilization.

It is a tool that needs to be leaned, if you start doing weird motions and angles it doesn't do well, not to mention peoplethat can't balance their cameras on it.  Though to be fair none of these small gimbals have enough adjustments for perfect balance (need 2 on each axis, but only tilt has 2 adjustments the test only have one).

  3. The AF even in that video compared to the Sony stuff shows it's still pretty behind.  Maybe if they tweak the algorithms a bit they can improve it.  The Sony is really smooth whereas the Panny stuff is kind of abrupt, especially when it does the in and out when it finds focus.  The Sony of course is not god like all the time, especially at night, but when it works, it works so well you don't even notice it, whereas with the Panasonic you can tell the camera is doing something.

About focusing: is it really true that on the a6500 you either get MF or AF-C only? Nothing like AF-S or MF with AF-ON? Is there any way to MF and use AF for a quick focus while you are shooting?

    That is how it works.

What I do is assign a button to AF enable/disable.  Then in af-c mode I just use it to switch between af-c and MF.

    Stupid cludge but it works.

  5. GH5: 4k 8-bit 24p 100mbps

    SD: 2x Lexar 128gb UHS-II (don't use these, GH5 no likey Lexar)

IBIS on, screen on, relay mode for cards, just filming a static scene against a wall.

    Panasonic - 2:19 - longest.

DSTE - 1:51 (111mins) - when it shows 1 bar replace quickly.  Charges faster than memowa.

    Memowa - 1:45 (105mins) - flatter curve so 1 bar lasts a while.

Kastar - 0:58 - Sad. (first one wouldn't hold charge)

Not really impressed by run times.  Oh well.  Keep in mind the variable quality between batteries so this might not be representative of the brands.

  6. Ok I tried to google 60fps GH5 Resolve and got nothing.  I can open my 8bit 4K files fine.  I can't open my 8bit 60fps stuff in Resolve 14.

Admittedly I don't know how to use resolve but I got my other clips into the timeline at least, but the GH5 60fps says "media offline".  Is this just unavailable in the free Resolve 14 beta?  The audio from the files play, but no video...

  7. I will test some.  I have kastar (garbage, first one wouldn't hold charge, second one like half of my dste), DSTE, and just bought some newmowa because I heard they are also as long as the wasabis.

The DSTE so far doesn't feel as good as the panny but I haven't tested.

The newmowa does come with a plastic case for the battery though.

  8. I changed my settings for smoother use and I like it so far.  Speed is like 25deg for pan and smoothness 200.  Dead zone is 1.

If you are having problems try slowing the follow rate and increasing smoothness.  You might want to increase dead band too.

I think the defaults are way too fast for 24p

I find the length of the gimbal and size is super annoying to deal with as nothing fits it, so shorter is welcome.  For my rungun stuff I leave it assembled but it takes up so much space and sticks out of my bag pretty far.

  9. When recording how are you using tap to focus? I can't do it in mf or af-c.  In MF mode I have to drag the box, in af-c it brings up the dialog and asks you to "set" the new focus area if you tap the screen.. I wouldn't really consider  that tap to focus.  Because when you need two taps to focus + lag of dialogue box which takes 1.5 seconds to activate.

  10. I've been using 1 area af-c since day one.  It's ok sometimes but still inconsistent. For example I just tried it with Panasonic 25mm f1.7 moving towards and away from a teabox with text.  It did not do well.

It's better than previous models but still not nearly as good as competition or whatever the panny reps hyped it up to be, which is the main reason for the "controversy" and they have only themselves to blame.

On the other hand it does sometimes have it's act together and if you use it properly you can get some decent gimbal shots.  Yesterday I tracked some planes in the sky and used it to follow some people with f2.8 35-100mm.

Speaking of which, zhiyun crane + gh5 + 35-100mm and dual is can actually be a thing.  I need to review the footage on the big screen but back of camers looked ok, and 10x zoom looked white stable. Finally they saved this lens (ok fine they saved it with gx85 and g85).

  11. Ok doing some runandgun today and encountered this several times: gh5 a bit laggy, hit record, takes like 5-6 (or more) seconds before camera starts recording. Happened at least 3 times today.  Also a but laggy in general some times.

Anyone else get this? Saw a Reddit post on it but not many answers.

Shooting in movie mode, manual everything and MF.  Stabilizer on.

Apparently there is a new metabones adapter coming that will allow AFC to work with Sony's PDAF with Canon lenses.

Literally on the same page you linked to:

"Continuous AF and video AF are not supported. (Performance may be unsatisfactory.)"

What you quoted only says PDAF support which they already have on their older SB...

So... nothing has changed, af-c still "unsupported"
