  1. Yeah I'm hoping there will be an RF to EF adapter as indeed i'd be weary of spending $2-3K on a lens system with a single body. would be great if RF glass were backwards compatible so I could also use them on my C100, 5D etc.. would be interesting to know if that's possible. Same goes for Nikon S series glass obviously
  2. Yeah this is an awesome feature for focus pulls, never thought i'd see it outside of Canon's C line.
  3. Yeah it's not like cinema cameras aren't just sitting still, as MILCS start catching up, they surely will jumpleap to 8K, internal Raw, etc. Also FS7 has got a lot more going on than 10-bit 4K. It records proper DCI 4K in ALL-I codec at bitrates up to 600mbps. You can get raw output, internal ProRes etc with expansions. That's without even counting ergonomics, battery life, XLR, DCI, NDs etc.. it's still a very popular camera option and top moving unit at rental houses.
  4. @no_connection no i don't expect hollywood to be using the EOS R, my point however was that 10-bit 4:2:2 Log has it's relevance, on a tripod, on a gimbal, maybe even handheld with IS. I'll probably mainly be using it in 1080p so the crop/RS isn't even an issue.. @Shield3 that's a common misconception.. the amount of light is the same. try it yourself by switching from FF to APS-C if your camera has that function, the image doesn't get darker.. same if you crop a photo, doesn't change the lighting. plenty of videos explaining this, i like this one with the light meter analogy: https://youtu.be/VeQPtk7icjo
  5. @no_connection Most hollywood productions are locked tripod shots with a S35 crop. I think 10-bit 4:2:2 Log will be very useful in a handful of "static" situations. @Shield3 Yeah i already aknowledged that.. was only half serious with that comment anyways but since we're getting technical it should be reminded that although DoF increases while cropping, an F1.2 or F2 remains the same as far as light gathering is concerned.. so no stops are lost.
  6. I hate bad RS but not everyone is doing whip pans & fast action shots. It'll be more then usable for corporate interviews, product shots, tripod work etc. Lack of 120fps @ 1080p is inexcusable however.
  7. Yeah I'm not ashamed of saying my XT2 is on it's way out, and the EOS R will be replacing it. It'll be a perfect B-cam to my C100 (or maybe it'll be the other way around!) The 4k crop sucks but i've been living with that same exact crop just fine on the XT2. Will probably need to get the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 and a new gimbal. I'll probably mostly still shoot in 1080p, with cropped 4K shots for punching-in or product close-ups. I'm real excited about 10-bit CLog & Focus Guides for MF. Smooth aperture control via ring adapter for my EF legacy glass & Eye-AF is a cool bonus too. Overall this is satisfactory for my needs at the given price point. Would not have paid 5D4 money for it though.
  8. Easy just assign multifunction bar to 1080p <-> 4K resolution, and voilà!
  9. Oops caught me slippin on my crop math!
  10. Hey look at it this way, that 50mm 1.2 can double as a 85mm 1.2 in 4K ! Yay!
  11. Anyone do the math on the crop factor? it's looking way more than 1.6x
  12. That's a typo.. Canon state "4:2:0 8-bit internal": There is an 8-bit & 10-bit CLog setting...?
  13. There is Electronic IS, so combination IS is probably lens IS + digital IS. 4k crop is a bummer. RS is even worst. Best hope is for much improved (M50 like) FF 1080p. I'll probably be getting one though: Eye AF, DPAF, Focus guides, Clog & 10-bit out, Vari ND.. pretty good for a $2K Canon

  15. 5D series was not designed with video in mind?! It started the whole FF video craze.. Anyways that's all very interesting but i doubt any of that applies here. Peaking & Eye AF have nothing to do with anyone getting sued. Both features are already in their $600 M50 MILC. You wanna make us believe they can't use it in their EOS R because of some kind "IP minefield"? If patents exist for those features (which i doubt is the case, especially peaking) Canon visibly own them and can apply them however they want. Reality is Canon are pros at product segmentation and have long kept video assist features for their cine line but they are also severely limited by their own tech. No BSI sensors, no IBIS system etc. Perhaps indeed if they tapped to Sony like Nikon did for sensors they wouldn't have fallen so behind, but Canon is stubborn and takes pride in doing things on their own. It's kinda reminiscent of Apple's stubborness to resist adopting intel chips in their Macs for the longest of times. Another thing is Canon likes to play it safe, and will withhold features to prioritize stability where others like Sony will cram features at the risk of overheat failures.
  16. @Mokara few people use live view for video in DSLRs? anyways we're talking mirrorless and just about every current mirrorless camera has peaking.. @mercer look closer, it's listed under playback. nothing indicates it'll be available in live view. it's a pretty annoying feature anyway imo.
  17. Looks like you might be right about the 1.5x crop on D5.. so let's hope Canon doesn't pull a 2016!
  18. Re: EF-S lenses: Compatible Lenses Canon RF lens group (excluding EF, EF-S and EF-M lenses) When using Mount Adapter EF-EOS R: Canon EF or EF-S lenses
  19. Right well at least EOS R has the new Digic 8 processor (vs Digic 6+ on 5D4). hopefully peaking & eye-AF trickles up from M50..
  20. FWIW the 5D4 sensor is 30.4MP vs 30.3MP on the EOS R. incremental difference i know but could mean technically not same (old) sensor. We'll know for sure tomorrow: CRINGE
