lucabutera got a reaction from SMGJohn in Smart Adapter
I have reflected on the possibility of building a smart adapter,
But before working on this project I would like to ask you friends of the forum, which would you prefer:
    1) Aputure Dec
    2) Techart Pro
Aputure Dec has the advantage of remote manual control, no mechanism on the adapter, built-in battery, open the iris and the display showing the iris aperture values.
Disadvantages, it works only with Canon EF lenses.
Techart Pro has the extraordinary advantage of transforming all manual lenses with auto focus lenses, and since the thickness can mount almost all existing lenses.
Disadvantages, can not adjust the aperture of the iris of Canon EF lenses, no remote control.
This question is not an official communication to work on Autofocus system to Samsung, this depends on the time and money that I can spend, I just want to do a survey to see what you prefer.
I look forward to hearing your opinions.
    - write 1) for Apture Dec;
    - write 2) for Techart Pro.
    Thank you

I think you're right, thanks for your patience!
Does not exist a version 1 and version 2, each NXL is an evolution of the previous one, who has more patience will have a product tested and improved.

The news that I can find are those that you can find in the internet, the Samsung is at the center of a corruption investigation, the big boss is in a coma in 2014 and his son to get the maximum power resulting from the merger with other companies, it seems that he corrupted the president of Korea.
Samsung has never released an official statement of closure of their cameras, they were told they had to move resources toward smartphone department, and that's exactly what they did.
The Samsung is a giant that moves 7% of the GDP of Korea and has to make money, but they are also very proud and competitive environments, each product is built to be the best of the competition.

Well, moving money to the smartphone department should be good for the cameras, since they've been in the same merged department since 2013 http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/13/5206560/samsung-merges-camera-and-mobile-divisions  But I assume that they have also been putting the money towards phones even within the department :P

I was playing around with settings on NX1:
I noticed I could set colorspace to Galaxy:
    [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm setusr 48 3145730
    UserData is set
    [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 48
    UserData is COLORSPACE_GALAXY (0x300002)
Whatever that is, the other ones were SRGB and AdobeRGB
    -----------------------
I could use the iZoom feature:
    [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 67
    UserData is IZOOM_X1 (0x430000)
There were multiple zoom factors, it zooms on the LCD screen but the photos don't show it and it didn't work with video, maybe with some settings it could work.
    ------------------------
I could set the burst rate to 30fps.
    [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm setusr 10 655360
    UserData is set
    [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 10
    UserData is BURSTRATE_RATE30FPS (0xa0000)
It shoots with burst but I don't think the camera did 30fps, sounded like 15fps.

I Spent many nights to create the NXL, I started with a vision and with the contribution of all those who have bought and tried I could improve it.
The boards of all were useful, I alone could not test it with all the lenses and detect the defects, a project carried out in crowdfunding is this.
To answer your question, I must tell you that in reality this would be the Mark XXX version, but I prefer to stick to the NXL version.
Currently, the construction costs are very high because it has made in Italy and in a limited number of pieces, so I can not reduce the price, but it remains a good investment given the rarity of the piece, maybe will be revaluated as anamorphic lenses.
ALSO I AM SURE THAT SAMSUNG RESUME PRODUCTION OF CAMERAS JUST HAVE INTERNAL PROBLEMS SOLVED AND REORGANIZED THEIR COMPANY.

Do you try to shot in 640x480 in vga or mjpeg to see if the problem is the bitrate?

Here's what I tried. It changes the iso from 100 to 800 after one sec. Correct value should be the 1/framerate, I think. But even with 1 sec it crashes when recording video.
    #!/bin/bash
    while true
    do
        /usr/bin/st cap capdtm setusr 5 0x50001
        sleep 1
        /usr/bin/st cap capdtm setusr 5 0x5000a
        sleep 1
    done

I tried to use a HDR script that switches iso. I only tried to change it 1 times per second and still it stops/crashes the recording very quickly. I was planning to try switching with a gap of 0.04 but didn't since the slow one crashed immediately.
I measured how much an ISO change usually takes and it linux tool time gave a sys reading of 0.02 sec to 0.06 sec. My skills aren't enough to diagnose why it crashed the recording.

For a 150mm or greater tele-photo, I wouldn't use a speed booster like the NXL. The wider field of view would be counter productive to getting longer reach... and at that focal length shallow DOF isn't a problem.
If you REALLY want the NXL on a long tele-photo with vignetting, medium format lenses would be a sweet solution. To learn more about those, check out this old blog post by Frank Glencairn: https://frankglencairn.wordpress.com/vintage-zeiss-glass-on-modern-cameras/

Double checked again without the lens hoods, it doesn't start suddenly but starts becoming noticeable around 150mm on my Tamron 70-300. By 300 it is clear and obvious, on the 400 f/5.6 the corners become almost completely dark.  Different lens designs may make it show more or less, for example it definitely shows less on the 400 f/2.8 than on the 400 f/5.6.  I'll try to post sample pics sometime later today.

What you say is correct, but all the programs that I use to eliminate macroblocking and artifacts, blur the image to "soften" the color, this algorithm instead also recovers the definition lost by the compression.
Certainly it is hard to think of a recovery of 4.4.4 sampling but have a more realistic 4.2.2 would not hurt!
