    But a 100mm lens that covers a full frame sensor and a 100mm lens that covers a m4/3 sensor are very, very different to each other, despite sharing those two common measurements. The difference in designs manifest in the size of the image projected by the lens. The aperture blocking certain angles of light reaching the sensor is the same, thus the out of focus areas will be the same amount out of focus, but your 100mm lens on a m4/3 lens will show a much narrower DOF - as you so correctly point out. So to achieve the same frame as the full frame, you actually need to mount a 200mm lens on the full frame. What happens, the DOF changes because to maintain f2, your aperture is now 100mm wide, blocking far less of that light coming in.

    Therefore, you cannot achieve the same picture. In order to do that, you will need your 100mm to open up more, in this case, also to 100mm diameter - f1.

    So you see, for any particular picture, you cannot recreate it by matching the lens numbers and plopping it on any old sensor (we all understand this) not can you only multiply the focal length crop factor (becuase the out of focus character is different) but if you want to achieve the same look, you have to also apply your crop factor to the f number, your lens needs to be faster for the crop sensor to achieve the same shot.

    Thus when comparing two lenses for the same sensor, one a lens designed for that crop frame sensor, and one a full frame lens with a speed booster, not only is that speed booster concentrating the light, increasing it's brightness on the smaller lens (F2.8 becomes an F2), but you are bringing the full frame characteristics of the lens to that crop sensor efectively making that sensor a full frame. Therefore to achieve the same look that the full frame lens brings, you need to use that crop factor on the aperture too for the crop lens (which remember is not going through a speed booster).

They only allow a very select few items to be shipped outside of Germany (or to Austria) it seems though... but I've been interested in the 77mm Smoque 1 and for EUR 29,98 incl. shipping, I'm going to find out of that really does add atmosphere. I'm not one to go ahead and take fog machines with me everywhere, you know.

    Yeah, pretty pricey. :-) Paid 16 EUR (Avides) for 52mm Glimmerglass 1 - lowest density and 26 EUR for HDTV/FX 1/2 filter.

  5. I have a GH4 and EM5ii with Panasonic lenses 12-35, 14-140 and Leica 25, all with 58mm threads so I could use the filter on all of them. Based on experience. What filter would people recommend to make the lens/camera combinations mentioned look more filmic and easier to grade and less digital?

  6. Well, prepare to be slightly disappointed. I guess I should've read up on this more, but it actually doesn't do servo AF at 1080/60. It'll do it at 1080 24fps and 30fps, and 720 60, but not 1080 60. I am a little annoyed because while this is somewhat documented around the web, it doesn't appear to be on the specs list of B&H. 

    Alas...maybe in a firmware update. Initial impressions are good though. Nice to have a camera that actually responds quickly when I press any button.

  7. Just for fun, I'm gonna guess he's keeping the:

    A7S II because it's the hottest camera right now and it is the leader in low light capabilities.

    GH4 because of its reliability and how it has become a standard in the industry.

    NX1 because you never know what update may come that changes the game

    5D3 because of Canon lenses and EOSHD heritage.

    + RX100 M4

    + Fujifilm X-T1

    + GH2

    5D3 was sold. (?)

  8. Cool. I have the Benro monopod that is shown in your youtube video. I'm pretty happy about it.

    The only flaw is that the backplate is quite tricky to fasten properly together with a Nikon D800. The tightening screw jams into the camera body and it doesn't get properly tightened. But it's still great for traveling around light while getting nice stable footage.

    You can adjust the tension (2:45 ).

    for 4K 25mbits is ideal... for 2K 20mbits...  best h264 encoder is MEGUI: high quality h264 file... for vp9 media encoder with webm premiere plugin
