Hello friends! I recently became a rapper – within the last week or so – and i am looking forward to spittin some of the bars that ive written ?? please tell me, audio peoples, what is the cheapest way for me to record solid vocals? imagine that i have very little knowledge about this, never done it before, but i know some basics about sound i guess i have: - a shure sm58 - a huge closet i can make into a lil recording room, do sound treatment on the walls, etc - a mac - adobe apps would yall PUHWEASE help me out...? theres SOooooo many options... like, to start, if i even wanted to use the shure sm58 i have to record, i think id need a thing like this to plug it into my mac, is that even right? if so, right away thats $100 i have nooo idea how to spend my money here.... and i have so little ? a completely different option is doing none of this and just reaching out to see who i know who already has this gear... im sure theres someone, then i could go record wherever, and im open to that, its sadly totally a matter of money right now... its the end of the year and im broke...! happy holidays fellas ?

hey i just wanted to add to this that im ~EVEN~ having all kinds of CRAZY problems with PHOTOSHOP right now!!! absolute incomprehensible nonsense. legit infuriating. basic things not working same. someone whos done this should tell us how it worked out, system specs, etc

im not talking about canon, im talking about magic lantern raw ≠ whatsoever canon doesnt make a video camera with the same image. if they did i would DEFINITELY buy one edit: im being too concise. if youre new to magic lantern raw, its good to know that the image you get from different camera bodies will look different – a 5d2 is not the same as a 5d3, some are more similar than others, and so on. i was oversimplifying final point: SO many of the videos above have a grade where this doesnt matter. not saying thats bad! just sayin'

i looked up "wax museum" but the pictures were way too lifelike smh. dont worry i found one

since when is "good enough" good enough? there isnt a camera on the market that has skin tones as good as im getting with 5d3 raw. its the most lifelike image that money can buy! alexa skin tones are the most overrated thing on the plant earth. they make people look a) dead and b) yellow and thats the gold standard right now SAD!

heres a duane hanson sculpture for comparison, but ironically these statues look more lifelike than those arri shots

wow, @kye, awesome~! thank you for the visual aides!!! i get it now ? edit: ykno, ive been looking at arri footage for awhile now, but this is eye opening > their skin tones are super homogeneous... almost too flat...? there must be a lot of magic going on to put those hues all right on that line, and i get why they do it, but... the people in the arri shots look somewhat... mannequinesque. like, can you imagine them blushing? they are kinda wax like ?

i hear ya! for me, in general, i want to get a feeling for the basics for something like this, then go explore all the zillions of ways to do things my suggestion is, just make a simple lil project, such as regrading existing footage like @scotchtape said (great way to see how much better resolve does with color), and when youre grading just use serial nodes. all the node options are complex, but i made a short without knowing anything about any of them... and i did a lot of coloring in post. buncha stuff. and everyone loves the color. its colorful lol point is, it was a GREAT learning experience, and NOW im ready to get into the more challenging aspects of the program

@mercer yeah, i made my short in resolve, its easy once you get the hang of it!! as far as color in acr vs resolve: it IS different, but... its darn similar. one thing ive seen for sure is that resolve gives a render with slightly more detail – i did some comparisons and thats what i found. but the difference isnt dramatic grading from ml raw in acr feels more different than it is, i think because im always using a super flat bmd profile in resolve, building up an image from what is virtually a gray rectangle, compared with the punchy saturated look youre greeted with in acr

actually ive never used premiere with ml raw... when i first started screwing around with the ml files, figuring them out, i used acr through photoshop to grade, exported as tif files, then opened the files as an image sequence. so ghetto i know! ?

@mercer, just wondering, are you not happy with resolve...? every now and then ill use ACR for a clip, but i have no "workflow" cuz i only do it occasionally ? i still love my 5d3 raw too!! ???
