I might be wrong, but did the a7siii not have better highlight rolloff? I thought I saw a video somewhere.

It's a shame about Vimeo, they have been an absolute clown show.
But I think YouTube does the job well.
The way to use it is to get premium, to nuke all the ads. Much better then.
Sure, but still you need to watch 1000 videos before you find one decent video. It works great for informational video's, but actual commercials, brand videos that are inspirational seems hard to find. The ratio on skilled crew on vimeo looks way higher. In vimeo for example "the staff picks" were great.

Hi,
Now that vimeo is not allowing any searches in europe. I was wondering If I should create a website, that allows people to post their vimeo/youtube links on it or share links from other creators that are inspirational or just are amazing work. Where viewers can search, comment, like it trough this website.
As it is hard to find good stuff on youtube for inspiration, and now without vpn impossible on vimeo.
Is there interest in this type of website? Let me know, if there is enough interest I will build one. As it will only work if enough creators start sharing work on this site.
Cheers! -
Ok I bought the C500 mkII. Can't wait to create the first project with it. First tests the AF is so much smoother then my S5II, maybe not faster, but it feels more natural. As does the image. The dynamic range is not crazy better over an S5 or S5II it seems. The highlight rolloff seems smoother though. The internal Nd's are fun too.

Hmm the big miss is no internal Nd Filters. If they would have included that it would be a huge success.
Looking forward to actual footage though, s1rii def looked better then the s5ii.
Might pick up an used r5c(EF ND adapter) or c70 with speedbooster, that way I can have internal ND's.

Not very exciting apart from the Arri logC information. Between the lines this seems to carry a tweaked IMX410 once again.
Well most of us were just waiting on 50fps 4k full frame. I hope everything else improved as well.
Like a better monitor, better colors etc. Prores raw internal is a bummer as resolve does not support it natively.

I think the best approach here is to analyse what you like and try to replicate it. Once we begin to understand why we like something about an edit the process is much easier. Much more fun than trawling through endless tutorials explaining how to do stuff you don’t even like…
Thats true, allthough I am never really enjoying edits. I rather enjoy the images but thats just me.

Oh I do have an m1 macbook lying around, but I never use it. I prefer windows.
But if it works better, I might need to switch. -
Hi guys,
So my pc is getting old around 5 years now. Playback rate is not that great in davinci resolve to the point I am losing too much time, still running an amd ryzen 1700x and gtx1080, SSD's and 32GB RAM.
Not sure if there are any major breakthroughs that have sped up your editing workflow through your pc hardware lately.
Thinking about getting an i9 14900k and an rtx 4070. But open to any advice!
Thanks! -
Hi,
Any youtubers with good editing advice for fast cut edting. I think I need to step up my editing game to the fast social media age to grab attention fast. I don't like shooting vertical video either, but that seems to be the trend for instagram/tiktok these days. I have not looked into this much really, but their might be some good tips out there for vertical video also that I am unaware off. Thanks!

No, I just shoot travel stuff, so not really the same thing, but having said that it would crush it if you gave it controlled lighting and a fast sharp prime. Shooting in these high DR scenes with available lighting is a torture test compared to an interview where you're rolling out the red carpet and making everything the easiest it could possibly be for the camera.
You feeling tempted?
I see, well in my case I would be using it also for run and gun interviews with only natural light. So dynamic range needs to be great. Not sure my s5ii will make it, allthough according to cined. There is not that much dr difference with the a7siii. Maybe the highlight rolloff is nicer on the a7siii. Not sure.
I wished there were more camera stores over here that would let you test stuff in their store.
-
Nice stuff! Have you shot any interviews with this setup?

Hi,
I might go on a job trip to south america soon for a job. Video + photo. Travelling between locations, run and gun situations + interviews.
So i might want to get a new hybrid camera. (S5 and s5ii atm, but I don't seem to like the highlight rolloff and the colors at times when using it run and gun, while in studio it works as an charm) . But I am unsure which one would be the best.
Thinking about an a7siii (SD cards) with 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8. + gymbal + Lav set. I once used an a7s ii in central america, where I liked the highlight rolloff and the colors of the camera.
Low weight and speed is key I think. Long battery life as well. (No vlock batteries as they are too heavy. The camera should not overheat. And only wish to use 1 body for now for weight reasons)
Any other recommendations?
Cheers,

In my experience, at least in my area, a majority of editors are still using Premiere. I'm one of the few using Resolve.
Same, costed me lots of jobs as well. As often they request the premiere/Ae project files. Or they ask if I can take over an existing premiere edit. Been working in resolve for 10 years now, and stopped using adobe because of their subscription model. All in all I might have made more money, just paying for the subscriptions..
Sorry to get offtopic a bit here.

You'd be mad not to wait for the 17K version.
I mean, is 12K enough? Really?
The beauty is that you can shoot whatever resolution without crop. I would never shoot above 4k. But the 12k sure does have pretty colors.

Will you be OK with only using lenses that mount to EF or PL mount?
And would an integrated flip-out screen be a selling point?
EF, yes. Loads of EF options.
The pyxis needs an extra monitor the c500ii does not.
The limitation of only braw is also a dealbreaker. I hope they will include a different codec soon. As lots of clients dont accept braw.
-
Hi,
I really like the pyxis 12K LF. But... now with the price drop on the C500II they are almost in the same ballpark pricewise.
And I am not sure why I would pick the pyxis over the c5OOii.C500II: Ibis, monitor, AF(allthough blackmagic is catching up), internal ND's.
pyxis 12K lf. It's newer. Might be easier to mount on a gimbal. Have not seen any image comparisons. I love the IQ from both camera's, but have not seen any side by side by these 2 camera's.
Any other input?Thanks!

Think you mentioned the C500 II... on B&H Deal Zone today for $4999.

I would be all over that if it was an Belgian store. Allthough I saw one used for 5k a while back.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but the reason I don't want to indulge AI is exactly because of it's ability to divorce me from the minutia.
(even though what you're outlining here is not minutia. Having AI do an audio mix? Bleh.)
Hey, this may be completely stupid and stubborn, but I still believe that the craft of things is in the detail of things. Always has been. Don't know the details? You won't know the craft. Don't know the craft? It's going to be hard to achieve one's voice in the art you practice.
Now, are you worried about the clock? The time you're putting in? Nothing wrong with that, but if you are worried, the chances are you're not making anything special, right?
Again, if your goal is to not create art, just push content, then you're eventually going to be replaced by AI totally anyway. You got a small window, I guess. Enjoy that while you can.
But, for me, it's not about making things look pristine or ideally technically proficient. There's a deeper quality to things than that. Wabi sabi
Here's an analogy litmus test for consideration: Is music better when it's a little pitchy?
At the end of the day, I'm just one guy staying true to my goals. I realize they're not other's goals.
Oh yeah, I just mean the day by day hustle corporate video's. Its just time I can spend with my family instead.
If it is an passion project or art project it is different, then I will try everything by hand to get the best possible result. But in business its time I dont get paid extra for + all the AI applications are more or less aimed at repetitive tasks that dont require that much creativity.

02:37:32 "We'll probably eventually charge some kind of upgrade for this."
Looks like we can expect to pay for major version upgrades in the future. Still better than a subscription, thankfully.
Yeah If it becomes subscription based, and it is in the Adobe price range. I might jump ship, as photoshop and Lightroom would be nice to have. We will see. I really hate the adobe subscription model.

Just watched the first episode, it feels a little a bit gimmicky to me.
Sometimes the lighting is a bit boring, as that is normal as you can't lock off shots like you do on static shots. I rather have something more stylistic.
With cuts between ECU's, wides, medium shots, cutting between characters to build suspense etc.
Might be a bit more classic approach, and maybe in my head that works better. Never the less they did an fantastic job nailing an entire episode in one shot.
(The studio episode 2 is also done in similar style)

That 12k sensor does have some mojo going on. As good as Alexa? doubt.
But the Alexa is soooo heavy + lowlight is better on the pyxis.

I don't think this will affect me so much, gear wise. Might be a good way to avoid GAS.
Not sure in what parts of my life this will hit though.
Panasonic Lumix S1R Mark II coming soon

So highlight rolloff does not matter to you? I don't want to come off as a guy which says camera A does this better then camera B. But surely you would think a new camera would beat a 5 year old camera. Z
Allthough it still overheats, and as an hybrid it still is flawed in the flash photography department.
I am not interested in the influencer reviews. And in the end its just a tool and what you put in front of it is much more important.. But highlight rolloff is never stated in the spec sheets.
