I wonder what he would use instead at $5k for 4K internal, 4K raw output, 240fps, 13 stop dynamic range LOG recording, Super 35mm sensor and the added bonus of 10bit 4:2:2 internal recording?! Not to mention a built in electronically variable ND filter.

    A Canon?!

    To utilise 4k RAW u need to spend 3000$ more. 4k internal is 8bit 4:2:0...!!!? 240fps buffering!!

I am definitely not going to use canon. I use sony A7s and rx10ii. they both do a great job. they both come for 3000$. RX10ii has 240fps buffering, Log recording, 4k internal, Built in ND filter and A7s has very good full HD. With this combination i was able to many jobs. I don't know how worth it is having 4k 8bit 4:2:0 and s-log3 for 6000$.

May be i should use it once!

I already use A7s and RX10ii  combination for most of the works. they both cost me up 3000$. 4k RAW will add me 3000$ more. only thing they both don't have is

10bit 422, that too in Full hd. if its in 4k hell ya its worth every penny.

  2. Dear Andrew, i still don't believe you brought this camera with mediocre specs, But i respect your choice.

    No XAVC-I

    only 8bit 4:2:0

    100Mbit in 4K[Ultra HD]

    No DCIP mode...?

    In 1080p its 240fps cache record[Buffering] limited  50Mbit/s bitrate...

Why do you always support sony? even though their bad user interphase and very bad skin tones.

I recently had a client who traveled from Dubai and one from Hong Kong.

They both said that there are plenty of people who own a RED, Arri, Canon C300 II - but it's rare that any of these people have any actual talent. The ideology is different in that it's what you own, rather than what you can do.

They came to the UK to get "different, creative lighting" as they can't get it where they are.

The UK is a definitely what you can do, rather than what you own kinda place. Everyone wants quality.

Here people brought Reds like chickens. Biggest problem is lack of style or a method 'you' follow to create a certain visual. Its all random.

The d810 will be better for both, unless the stills you want to do are above iso 200-400. The d810 has iso64 that gives the best image beside mediumformat backs.

The sony a7rii has an electronic shutter mode, but I don't know if its supported with the timelapse app. Battery life and reduced dynamic range should also be kept in mind (I believe it had less DR when using electronic shutter but I might be mixing cameras here).

And before I forget, some nikon lenses don't have consistent apertures, this means that between frames, when using lower aperture values, the exposure will vary and produce flickerimg. Maybe nikon has fixed this somehow, but when I was into timelapses it was something that people would run into a lot with nikon cameras.

Sony supports time-lapse video through paid app, but its limited to Full HD only

  5. I guess it has same bad video focussing and soft image in 240fps and very bad low light performance, But 600mm might solve bokeh issues also it might increase

    focussing distance further.

  6. What doest it mean an ISO in sports mode? does it apply to genral [all kinds of] shooting ?

    thanks in advance.

Publishing mine today, merely to make people stop cracking the whip.

its been 6 days Andrew. I have checked EOSHD like 100 times from then. sorry if i am too interested.

  7. Its been a month this camera is in market haven't found detailed and low light plus HFR video quality review!

Although i am waiting for Andrew review on it, plz fellows post some videos and article about RX10ii. thank you.

  8. That's superb. Is it easily available or through dealer contacts?

I don't think sony has good market share in india. people here use a lot of panasonic cameras for videography and the rest is canon and little amount of nikon. Although i brought it from a dealer he said he sold the first one to me. But its down south, hyderabad i am talking about. mumbai, delhi, banglore, chennai might have been selling from a while now.I can say its easily available.

  9. Guys there is good news, :) :)

Sony A7s ii is getting released very soon/just got a confirmation from sony.  they are just waiting for the Sony A7rii to be getting released everywhere. Like india and some south american countries.

Got very little info on specifications are, same base ISO,3200 But with internal 4k recording higher bit rate than A7rii.
