  1. I use mostly the 24mm Samyang f1.4 lens (theres a "cine" version as well) and its my go-to lens, I love it and its my def. go to lens. You can easily make a 600D shot look like a Full Frame 5D shot, the bokeh is soft and looks high end, the sharpness is incredible, just an overall great lens. But as it was mentioned, some can be amazing and others not so good, try second hand market, I bought mine used and its amazing.
  2. Is it that noticeable at 1080p though ?
  3. Looks quite bad, but its probably his fault.
  4. I had seen it already (I think i've seen all of your videos ! ) I really like the colors on the Black Magic, but the NX1 seems to be the sharpest of the bunch (some shots seem to be out of focus though), also saw your review of the NX1 (actually one of the best reviews i've seen on that little monster). The only downside is the rolling shutter, way too prominent and considering the processor the NX1 has, it doesnt really make sense, lets hope they can reduce it in the next firmware updates. BTW, love your dog !!!
  5. I did saw Mattias burling (I even tried to guess), but to be fair there really wasnt any other "big" camera on the test, the test was between BMPCC, GM1, D16 and HMC151, to I cant compare it to others. The black magic is indeed a great camera (I was going to jump on it when it was 50% off) but for the price, I believe there are better options. After checking Flickr (how could I forget) for the NX1, I really am impressed by its stills, it seems to be very very capable. I will be looking at the NX500 as well, I discarded that little camera, but it might be worth my while.
  6. I can wait for the A7rII I just cant afford it, spending 3,4k on it its way out of budget, my full budget for PC+Camera is around 2,5k, so spending that extra on the camera alone would destroy me for now :/ I like taking stills, but I think that my 600D is already pretty good on the still side, im expecting similar performance on the NX1 (would be extremelly disapointed if it was worse than the 600D). I do love the Full Frame look on the still department, but there simply isnt any good Still/video camera with FF sensor (just the A7 gama or 5DM3) and since I make the most money on Video, I must invest on Video. I thought transcoding would take 5-10hours and not 1-2h, that doesnt seem to bad at all, and very maneagable. I would accept those Raw files if you (or anyone else) wants to send them to me, I'd really appreciate !
  7. I dont think getting a G6 would make much sense in terms "raw" material. Having considered, I think I will go for the NX1, it seems to be the best option, and also the cheapest, I realized I also have a 15 day trial, so if I really dont like it, I can give it back. It also seems like the best "future proof" camera, having the native 4k, and 120fps makes me feel confortable that within 3-5 years it will still be a very good camera.Footage will probably be quite sharp using my Samyang 24mm or Art lenses, wih some nice soft bokeh. The a7s as good as it is, will probably drop price with the arrival of the a7rII (or a7sII). The big problem is that where I live, there really isnt any renting service or else all of this would be much much simpler.
  8. I agree with working your skill and creativity rather than relying on camera gear. I've used the Canon 600D for the past 2 years, and Im still amazed at what such a tiny little camera can do, but it does have its limitations (specially in video), and thats why I need an upgrade. Nowadays we have so many choices its pretty hard to choose, every camera has its ups and downs, unfortunately in Portugal theres no renting service or else i'd rent and try each camera and make the best choice, all I can do is search for reviews and videos online. I love the look Albert Fast, ED David, Andrew Reid and some others can take out of the NX1, but its pretty hard to "judge" because I dont know the whole process and can only look at the final product on Vimeo/Youtube, so its hard to put down 1,5k simply by looking at those videos, and then ending up having a struggle to work with the system. Eiterway, I will be getting a new computer to help with the editing process, so my camera budget is around 1500-2000€ right now.
  9. So many repplies, its good to see im not the only one feeling like this before a purchase. Im trying to find a piece of equipment that in 3-5 years will still be very good, so the way im "choosing" is by features, so 4k seems to be a strongpoint. Lens wise im already pretty set, I have a samyang 24mm f1.4 (wich is the one I use the most), and have acess to Samyang 14mm, Sigma Art 50mm f1.4 and a bunch of vintage glass, so I dont really need to invest in glass. The system I chose is also pretty much irrelevant, since most of what I do is manual (focus and aperture), I dont need fast AF and all that. Is the rolling shutter on the Nx1 that bad ? I thought it was much improved on the latest firmwares, eitherway I dont do a lot of fast stuff, so that isnt a problem either. What im looking for is straight up quality coming out of the camera. This is how im "ranking" the cameras so far : NX1 : + IQ; 4k; 120fps - Workflow a7s +ISO performance; IQ; Full Frame -lack of internal 4k; 12mpx stills; Pricetag 5DM3 +Stills; Raw Video; IQ -Pricetag; lack of 4k I've discarded M43 sensor due to the "lack" of shallow DOF, im not familiar with the Sony A6000 but will take a look at it...The A7r II is truly what I would feel extremelly confortable with, but the pricetag is way above what I can pay.
  10. Hi all... As some of you may know, i've been intending to get a new camera for the past 2 months, and for that time period, I thought I had chosen the right one for me...but as time goes by I get more and more uncertain of what I should choose. For me this is a huge investment, I do professional video, and for the past few months it has been getting more and more serious, so I really do need to get a new camera, but having to spend 1-3k on one, is really a huge investment for me. I also do photography as a hobby, so it still is important to me. For the past few months, I was certain I should get the NX1, it seems to be an amazing video camera, and people talk good about stills (though I havent seen much of these, which leaves me concerned), but they dont sell it in my country, so I have to order it, and the workflow seems to be a real strouggle for people without a high end computer. So now im thinking, do I get the NX1 ? Do I get a 5DM3 ? a7s ? Do I wait 1 more month ? What do I do? How do you guys decide when making such a big investment ?
  11. So I keep trying your free LUT, heres what I got with a Canon T3i (600D). Ignore the heavy compression, but I absolutely love the colors, and you def. sold me on the pack, will be getting it soon Congrats ! Btw, this is the first time I actually try luts and enjoy them.
  12. Why not fall in between and get the NX1 ? This camera cant get enough love, and seems to be discarted even though its great reviews. Videowise its certainly much superior than any of the cameras refered, and you can get it around 1,2k or less in the US. Its easily the best video camera for the pricetag.
  13. Im going to buy the Nx1 in the next couple of days (been saying this for a month now -.- but keep pushing it, its a huge investment for me), but if I were you, i'd either get the A7RII or keep the NX1, its one of the best video cameras around, even with the though workflow (and I have a feeling they will probably be addind H264 soon).
  14. Love the color grading on these, the whole thing is top notch, keep going. Specially for a banned user....I kid, I kid...
  15. I tried using the free one you shared, Im still fidling around and understanding how to apply luts and color correct, but I can get some pretty cool results, although not natural or "film" looking, I like the look.
  16. I havent tried LUTS yet, I've been editing video on Lightroom, but will try your free LUT, and probably buy the package soon. They look great ! And since im upgrading to the NX1, Im sure they will look amazing !
  17. Why only both those choices ? For Video, the clear picks are GH4, NX1 or a7s (or the newly released a7r II). If you dont know exacly what you need, it means probably that you should wait a bit longer until you're certain. Nowadays, even entry level cameras have amazing performance, and when paired with good lenses, can be very professional. What I'd suggest is, when looking for the Video camera, look away from Canon & Nikon.
  18. I use Vegas to edit videos, the stabilization works best for me on Vegas, but I think I should maybe move to premiere...
  19. Id be very interested in seeing how it copes against the Red Dragon.
  20. I completely agree with you, and althought the raw quality is there, it seems that Samsung is trying to market this as a "intro-level" camera, and not the actual pro-level it is. Some people think this is a fancier compact camera, They should have made some contest with the NX1 community, and then select 4 shortfilms, im sure the quality would have been much high er and much more enjoyable.
  21. Im thinking after this announcement, they will probably release a fw update with an "extreme" feature update. I also believe they dont need to go FF, but having an adapter (metabones or such) would be totally killer for the NX1. I still dont get why this camera isnt being sold like hot buns, not many people know of it, and a lot of people who have it, seem to be using it as a "point&shoot" with the kit lens, im not sure if the camera was properly marketed or not, but it should be marketed as what it is, a pro-level camera. I was thinking though, does anyone remember the 5Ds and 5Dr ?! Yeah, pretty much dead on arrival...
  22. This made me rethink if I should get the NX1 or not, but the price is out of my range, I could get it for 2k, but 3,2k is way too steep, so for now and the next few years, im sticking with the NX1 which is still one of the best choices for video for the price. I just would have loved the FF for stills.
  23. Ahh :/ I would get this, as you said, it works, and its cheap. Do you have other vintage/cheap lenses that work with the NX1 ? What do you recomend ?!
