  1. Didn't know you had the nx500... How many cameras do you own? Yeah, 1080 on the 500 is... (Searching for the right words)
  2. Good to know. I have tested cinelikeD and now am messing around with natural. I also have the nx500, you used to have the nx1, right? Do you like the g7 better? I use only vintage lenses and I think they pair better with the g7 than they do with the nx500. Of course, b&w on the nx500 is incredible. Anyway, good work, I look forward to your next piece.

I decided to go with the ai-s 35-70mm f/3.5. I now have a modest little set of Nikkors that should suit me well... 28mm f2 35-70mm f3.5 50mm f2 Now I just need to sell a few other lenses to raise some money for a metabones xl.

    35-70 ai f3.5 or 35-70D af f2.8? I can get a good 3.5 for around $90 and a decent 2.8 for around $175.

If you want the best lens with that look, spend the money and get the Nikon. Other 2.8 lenses will probably be fine for whatever you're doing, but I feel like you keep asking the same question and hoping you get a different answer. If you want to know what the Tokina or Sigma 2.8 lenses look like, Google them... Surely there are videos online using those lenses.

I used to have the RMC Tokina 28-70 and it was a really nice lens. Very low contrast. I have the 25-50 which is also great. I will say though... The Nikon is better... That is why they used it on Bourne. I get that it may be too much for you... I can't afford one either, but it IS better.

3.5 isn't too bad. With the metabones XL it will get down between f/2 - f/2.5 ... Which is more than admirable for a constant zoom. Is it parfocal? It seems it focuses inside the barrel, so I assume the filter ring does not rotate when you focus? I have the Minolta MD 24-35mm and it is a stunning lens, it's like a small set of wide primes in one lens, but the filter ring rotates on focus, so using a fader nd is a pain in the ass. Do you have any screen grabs?

Since you already own the 35mm f2 and you love it, then I would stick with Nikon. Grab a 50mm f2 and the 28-70mm and you'll have a great set of lenses to use on the NX1 or any future camera purchase for the foreseeable future.
  9. Have never used one, but I found a few on eBay. They run around $150, give or take.

I liked the super 16 at either 50 or 100.
  11. NYC is a different kind of place. People go out of their way to not make eye contact. From the corner of their eyes, they probably thought he was a crazy guy with a box on his shoulder.

  13. That sounds interesting. Let me know when it's done, I'll be a buyer. I was just reading an article by Stu Mascwitz over at prolost.com about the differences between Raw and Log footage, a lot of it went over my head but there are some interesting parts involving the clipping of RGB channels and how you can post manipulate white balance by simply adjusting those channels... Or some shit... Like I said, it was beyond my knowledge. You'd probably get more out of it than I did.
  14. Yeah, your results are looking great. Can't wait to see some video. I need to learn how to properly color correct and grade, without LUTS I would have black people looking white.
  15. Never thought I'd say this, but... That pile of dung looks great.
  16. Since you are already used to the BM workflow, why not get a pocket or micro with a metabones?
  17. Haha. I can't see that from my phone, so I do not feel stupid at all. Lol. I think now the question remains, how pissed is he at me for thinking it was shot on a Nikon dslr? And I might as well shoot everything with a Nikon DSLR because I think it looks as good as a proper cinema camera. Ignorance is bliss.
  18. It looks great!!! I love shadow detail as well, just never thought of dialing saturation all the way down. Why are you leaving sharpening and nr at 0? Obviously, you have tested this and have had good results... Otherwise you wouldn't do, but it goes against a lot of information out there... Am definitely going to try this. Thanks again... Once again you have proved to be one of the most helpful members on the site!!! BTW, Are you using any in camera curve? Also, 0-255 or 16-255?
  19. I don't know. He either used a small sensor camera or a kit lens based on the lack of depth of field of some of his close ups. So, that's why I guessed a Nikon dslr and a kit lens.
  20. Really? -5 saturation? You are able to pull the color information back? So Natural -5 Contrast, -5 Noise Reduction, -5 Sharpening and -5 Saturation? I've been using a Nikkor ai 28mm f2 lens lately that I'm in love with, do you think it would fare well with the XL? I also have a set of Tokina AT-X manual zooms... The 24-40 and the 35-70mm f2.8... In Nikon mount. How do you think they would pair with the XL?
  21. Andy, this is a little off topic, but I also am a G7 owner and I would love to know what settings you're using. As you probably know, there is a tremendous amount of conflicting information online regarding the best picture profile. I have been getting decent results with both cinelikeD and Natural, but any insight you have would be greatly appreciated, especially since I am in preproduction on my first feature. Is the XL a paramount part of the quality you are getting?
  22. +1 I would love to know if this works. Prores and the G7 could be a lethal combo.
  23. The lowlight was very nice. How did you light the shot with the father and daughter leaning against the car? It was very subtle and clean and exactly how a night shot should look in my opinion... Did you use headlights from another car? Anyway my guess is you used a Nikon dslr... Maybe the d3100 or 3300.
