  1. Not many people can afford an Arri Classic or have the jobs that warrant one. 15 grand is a lot of money to pay unless you're doing some high end narrative work.
  2. Has anybody tried a modest bump to 2.5k or 2.7k. I would love to be able to get 2.5k 2:39 working one day. Hell, even cinema 2K at 48-60p would get me off. Yeah I need to test this, Hyalinejim swears by it. I'm pretty sure he uses it with Adobe, and it seems like it may be better designed for After Effects than Resolve, but since I am testing workflows right now, I am pretty much game for anything.
  3. @Neumann Films That's great, looking forward to it. I almost bought a used one last night, but I'm too happy with my 5D3 right now to justify another big purchase, but I do predict a GH5 in my future one day. Any chance you'll be getting one of those new fangled cine cameras, under the Shroud of Turin, to test?
  4. Yeah, I drive stick as well but I don't remember turning it on, so I wasn't sure if it is a default option for a reason. I think I'll do the same... thanks Squig.
  5. Yeah it's really something else. I also like Arri LUTS with it too, but I've been using them at 50% as a finishing LUT. It seems to crank up some shiny contrast within the textures... if that makes sense...
  6. Maybe Sigma is introducing M4/3 mount Art lenses...
  7. I saw that short a while ago. I think it's supposed to be the first short film ever shot with the BMPCC. But yeah, that camera amazes me all the time. It just has that mojo we are all after. Are you thinking of picking one up? There's a barely used one on eBay for $680. If I wasn't in love with my 5D3, I would still be interested in the Pocket.
  8. Hey Luke, just watched this video again and I must say I may be more impressed than the first viewing. Were your opening shots a time lapse or were they done in post? Also... any chance you and the wife would consider making a director's commentary for this video... would love to know the details.
  9. I actually really like the Varicam. Their Raw output is gorgeous. I wouldn't turn one down.
  10. Nice job. You had some pretty high contrast shots that I think you handled really well. The edit was quick and upbeat. Not a fan of the music but it worked well with your edit. Now with this being a gear oriented site, what lens(es) and support did you use?
  11. These are some cool ass topics you are posting but sadly they would probably see more traffic if they were posted on the main board... sadly a lot of folks around here have zero interest in short films or actual finished projects. A shame really.
  12. The Varicam is nice but it's no Arri. The LT easily beats all of the non cine cameras, but I'm unsure, for my tastes, if it beat any of the cine cameras, except for the FS7... her skin looked horrific. The problem with the Varicam was the blown out highs... but a lot of the cameras have that problem in that test. The real surprises for me is how well the Pocket faired against the Varicam and how good the Ursa Mini 4.6K looked at 2 stops under. With that being said, the Varicam looked excellent.
  13. Also, with digital ISO, it states you get better highlight roll off with -0, if true, does it introduce more noise?
  14. Stupid question to more advanced ML Raw users... can I change the WB and ISO using the 5D3's physical buttons, or do I have to go through the ML menu? And gradual exposure... on or off. I'm mostly using the 24-70mm f/4 lens if that matters? Also does it matter if I am shooting with a manual lens?
  15. Although I'm not in the market for a GH5, there are some used ones for sale at BH if you want to save two to four hundred dollars... depending on condition.
  16. It's difficult to really guess the price because we don't know enough about the features. Based on the size alone and believing it's S35, we have to assume they are going after the C100ii and FS5 market. But until we know if it outputs Raw, or even a compressed Raw, we just don't know. With the competive price to feature ratio of the GH5, I would assume it will be on the low end, between 4-5k. If they release it under 4K, this should be a grand slam for Panasonic. Also we don't even know the model number/name... if it's an AF200, it should be on the lower side. If it's part of their Varicam line, it will be on the higher side.
  17. Good to know, thanks. Not worth the risk then.
  18. Yeah, I think anything over $5000 would be a big blunder by Panasonic. I think it will be between $4000 and $4500.
  19. Has there been any movement with ML Raw on the 80D? Canon is selling refurbed 80Ds with the 18-55mm for $829. Could be a great b-cam with DPAF ML Raw.
  20. That's a fair price for it though. So good on you! I love mine. This is the first time in a long time where I haven't felt like an incompetent shooter/colorist... so I can only imagine what some of you guys can do. Also looking forward to testing the 4K Raw next week.
  21. I was interested in the Tamron, but went with the Canon 24-70 f4... the IS is tripod steady. As you know, it's like a point & shoot Raw cinema camera now with the Raw histogram and ETTR hint. I was looking at some Contax Zeiss lenses this morning. But I think I'm just going to continue to grow my Nikkor set. The oval disks do sound pretty damn cool though. Is Rich doing that for you? I do think I want to start another set of manual lenses though. Maybe Leica R. Or maybe I'll go old school with some Taks and Helios.
  22. Nice! Are you keeping your Micro/BMCC? Planning a new feature with ML Raw?
  23. Great advice too, you and Hyalinejim saved my ass with part 1 of my short shoot. What batteries do you use? I have the original Canon battery and it lasted almost the entire first day of shooting, but the Wasabi 3rd Party batteries I bought drain pretty damn quick. Any suggestions?
