  1. Thank you very much to you all!

I had normal HOYA, not professional,m but they were not so cheap :)
SLR Variable looks amazing from your footage! Thank you!

Do you have any suggestion for fixed ND also?

  2. Ciao!

I like to shoot as cinematic as possible and for outside shoots I bought a variable ND filter.
I had some problems in few shots (mainly artifacts and green "ghost" flares) so I sold it and I started to use some fixed ND. With them I had some luck, but also some bad surprise in some wide angle scenes, such as heavy degradations in leaves, far trees and grass.

All my ND were HOYA, I gave them back to the shop as used.
For the moment I'm controlling the exposure outside with high angle shutter, but I'd love to shoot 1/50 as much as possible.

Could you please suggest some good fixed ND? Do you think is it ok to stuck a couple of ND together?
    Thank you very much!

  3. Andrew,

I purchased the GH4 log converter and all I can say is that it is great. I'm using it in final cut pro x and just dropping the converter in as a out, and then the canon log lut.  I just started using it with film convert as well, again it works great.  This was by far worth the money, I would have paid more.  Thanks again.

Does it work also with 1080p files or only with 4k? Thank you!

p.s.: wich LUT plugin do you use with Final Cut Pro X?

  4. Feel free to keep experimenting though

Andrew, is it designed just for 4K or is it possible to use with 1080p as well? Do you think I could have some luck with "natural" profile (with contrast -3 and saturation all the way dawn)?
Thank you very much for your great work!

  5. Ciao Andrew!
Do you think your converter could work also with the 1080p file?
Is it possible to use it with the Natural profile? I ask you because I have a recent shot that I made with Natural (contrast -3) and it would be great if I could flat it.

Anyway I sometimes use also your profiles I learn from your amazing guide, but I mostly shoot in 1080p.
    Thank you!

  6. I've had luck with Andrew's LOG converter with Portrait and Natural. You'll then be able to use LOG LUTs.

Yes it is 10 bit. I'm curious to see 8 bit flexibility as well, but if it's anything like the C100 it won't be much different.

    Thank you very much!
Do you know if it is possible to load LUTs in Final Cut Pro X? I'm not able, maybe I need to use Resolve?

  7. Last week I met the Panasonic sales-man in my favorite shop, he told me that V-Log should come out in mid August... it's a long wait 'till October... :(
They should add the 1.85/2.35/2.39 crop marks and maybe a nice ProRes option via SD card, as my BM Pocket does. It should be not so hard for them.. I would pay for that!
I love my Pocket, but the GH4 is far more easy to use run and gun!

    V-Log! V-Log! V-Loggggg! :)

  8. I'm with you Andrew. It's a bit disappointing waiting for something that is in the air and does not arrive. Especially after I bought a BMPCC... I love the ProRes from this little cam and I don't understand why Panasonic can't add not only V-Log, but ProRes too and the nice frame guides options.

I mean, I love my GH4 and I think it's far more usable then the BlackMagic Pocket (GH4 has great battery life, better monitor, easy access to basic functions such as WB, ISO, Shutter speed/angle...), but the 1080 ProRes from BlackMagic is way better! And you can have it in an SD card, no external hardware required!

I hope Panasonic will update the firmware soon in that direction!

  9. Problem solved. Got a new cable to day and now the Aputure/GH4 combo works. Very easy setup, - connected the two, switched both on and bingo. Thanks to everyone for your comments and inputs.

About the quality of the Aputere: Well, for the money it is okay. The screen has too much contrast - maybe wrong contrast is the right word -  to my liking. The dark areas are too dark and the bright areas too bright. I've tried different settings for brightness and contrast, but can´t get what I would like. Also I would not trust the Aputure for colors - not terrible colors but not trustworthy. The GH4 LCD has far better balance between dark and light areas and better colors. For framing and most focus work though I guess the Aputure is okay. I have put an Anti Glare Film on top of the glossy screen, this and a DIY-modification on the sunshade made it quite useful  for outdoor use.

Anyways, in 4-5 months time I think I´ll get the SmallHD 501 Sidefinder, - if feedback from real world users is good.

    Great news!
Since I'm going to buy a monitor for my GH4 and for the BlackMagic Pocket, could you please tell me if the Aputure replicate the peaking and the zebra from the camera?
I mean: through the HDMI cable is possible to send not only the image, but also peaking, zebra etc... from GH4? And the LCD is still working while sending signal via HDMI?
    Huge thanks!

p.s.: I ask you because if the quality is not so good I could buy the cheaper VS-1, that has no peaking and zebra, waiting to raise some money for a SmallHD 501 :)

  10. I have Panasonic G6 and GH4: no problem on both with Olympus 12mm, 17mm, 25, 45.
I choose to sell them to buy other gear I needed (a BM Pocket, some old primes...) but I regret that, because they were amazing, especially for stills, where AF is a must.
For video I'm happy with old manual lenses, but if you shoot both video and photos Olympus are just great!

  11. I look the Lilliput, it seems far better then the Aputure VS-2.

If I'm going to spend more I'll take this!

Otherwise, do you think the super cheap Aputure VS-1 (that has NO peaking/false color/waveform/histogram http://www.amazon.it/Aputure-V-Screen-Ultra-thin-TFT-LCD-Camcorder/dp/B00EZ01JCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432897389&sr=8-2&keywords=aputure+vs1) could be helpful at least for framing and checking focus/exposure?

    Thank you very much!
