It still can be. I've never seen a genuine opinion shut down on this site, regardless of how far it strays from conventional wisdom. I have found respectful disagreements to be welcome if not encouraged. With that said, I have also seen rudeness, cockiness, malice, and ill-temper attempting to pass itself off as "just a genuine opinion what's the big deal," and on that I agree with the overall sentiment of this post wholeheartedly - it needs to stop because it detracts greatly from the benefit you can get from scrutiny among friends.

I would be in favor of stricter community moderation as a first step, with more aggressive steps taken as needed. There are plenty of other festering cesspools of partisan hatred on the internet. EOSHD is (and should continue to be) a place for honest, frank, respectful discourse.

Also the highly anticipated Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM ART now has a price - this will be an exceptional piece of glass to use on the GH4 with Speed Booster pre-order the Nikon mount version at B&H for $995 or the Canon mount version

This shot by EOSHD forum member Julian confirms that Panasonic have now completed the final production firmware for the GH4 (version 1.0). The unit pictured above was loaned to Julian but it is a good sign the camera will be shipping on time from stores - possibly by the end of this month in less than 2 weeks.

I don't know what it is, but I prefer the flat profile on the GH4 almost more than any grades I've seen.

    Nice find!

Video-ish?  The Panasonic and Sony Cams definitely don't look video-ish,  that is unless you want to make the footage look video-ish.  This same argument has been used by canon users since the beginning of time it seems.  I guess if it works for ya keep at it.     :)

There's no need for petty sniping. Seriously. If you think someone made a mistake, and you feel like you can offer a correction, there are far more civil ways to open a dialogue, ways that might actually be of benefit to the discussion as a whole.

    You need to chill out.

On the snipers, it isn't so much the fact they point out an error as the sheer hatred and bitterness in which they do it. I don't want a forum full of people like this, therefore both users have been banned permanently.

jurgen got a reaction from etidona in Panasonic GH4 pricing official - $1698 body only, $1998 for the external 10bit / XLR box
    Pre-ordered earlier today, very excited.

Also, I emailed Jordan from The Camera Store in Canada/TCSTV, who said:

"Panasonic was unable to get us the new UHS-3 cards, so we used Lexar Professional 90MBps [600X - jurgen] cards.  They allowed us to shoot any of the 100Mbps modes, but the 200Mbps recording stopped after a few seconds."

So, 4K to the top level Class 10 UHS-1 cards, it seems, or at least the Lexar ones, at least in Canada, at least on the pre-production models. Ordered a couple today as well, so I'll test them when I get everything together.

jurgen reacted to Musty in My first Panasonic GH4 impressions
So I played with the GH4 this afternoon at Jessops, Oxford Street, London. Although I spent around an hour with the camera, I was not allowed to record any footage to my SD card as the Panasonic rep said that the unit was a pre-production model without the release firmware. Being a nice chap, he did allow me to test many of the video functions and looked closely at the 2 Cinelike profiles the camera has, Cinelike D and Cinelike V.

I've never held a GH series camera in my hand before, so I was very suprised by the light weight of it. I'm used to the weight of my 5D MKIII with lump of L glass, so it was lovely to hold a camera that felt so nice in my hand. The OLED screen was very sharp and clear and worked perfectly to pull focus. The EVF was bright and full of detail. The eye piece was ultra comfortable. Focus peaking worked an absolute treat. A quick word about the autofocusing, its very impressive and I noticed no 'hunting'. I think it will be pefect for shooting with the 96fps function when you want to track something that is moving at speed.

The Cinelike profiles look interesting and I believe no footage we've seen so far has used these profiles to capture footage. Cinelike D is pretty much like a Technicolour style flat profile which is probably going to be the most used one on the GH4. Cinelike V seems to crush all the shadows into black and I found it hard to see what purpose this profile would serve.

The DR of the GH4 looks really good. Even though we were inside near the back of the store, when shooting out towards the windows, plenty of detail was retained outside. I know on my 5D, lots of it would have been blown out, almost white!

Unfortunately, I was not able to look for moire or aliasing as we could not connect the GH4 to a monitor and it was too hard to notice it on the OLED or EVF as they are too small.

In all, its a great camera and I can't wait to see more footage from it in the coming weeks. I did get the Panasonic rep to watch my showreel and while winking at him said I've love to shoot something for them :)

If you have any Q's please feel free to ask. Finally, some photos of the Cinelike profiles, this is the best I could do :(

jurgen reacted to Andrew Reid in Olympus E-M1 firmware update to address video mode - but will we get 24p and higher bitrates?
The Olympus E-M1 is sitting on a goldmine. The 5 axis stabilisation system is heaven for video, but very little attention was given to video specs. The codec is only capable of recording in one frame rate, 30p, a rate completely unsuited to 70% of the world's population living in Europe, the UK, China, Brazil and Australia. Consumers need 25p or 50p... and filmmakers are desperate for the 24p look!

Now Olympus are said to be working on a firmware update (source: 43rumors) that gives 21 steps of manual audio gain control (1 step more than the GH3).

Here is a summary of what else video users need.

if Olympus enable 24/25p and 50/60p then I would seriously consider choosing the E-M1 over the soon to be released GH4.

fingers crossed.... for my needs, I think I would prefer to have the 5 axis stabilisation than most of the GH4 features.

I would buy an em-1 if it had 24p and 60p at 1080.

If the EM-1 had 60p-1080 and has good low light sensitivity, I'll definitely buy one -- perhaps more than one.
