  1. Do you mean zero jitter or vibration when OIS is on. Look very carefully handheld shots with OIS. I think that there is little fast jitter with that lens. Yes I have a big problem with my lens. I cant return it because it is the way it works. I like all the other properties of that lens, great photos, light, IQ in video, fast focusing, etc. I hope that FW update is coming... I tested 12-35mm in a storer and it vibrated the same way as my 14-140 II.
  2. My workflow is now with handheld 14-140mm shots: Sony Movie Studio 13 and light stabilization for EVERY clip. That is very time consuming and difficult because that editor lets you stabilize just one clip at time and then I must wait. Then second clip and waiting......etc... I have shooted handheld GH4 30P 4k files with relatively high shutter speeds (1/100s - 1/160s). With slow camera movements and light stabilization (Sony MS 13) motion and stability is very good when watching with modern TV with motion enhancements. 30P motion is very convincing and lifelike if there are no rapid action or panning. When I stabilize GH4 60P files shooted with high shutter speeds the results are jello free and smooth because GH4 60P has very low rolling shutter effect and there is no motion blur to ruin flawless motion experience. Almost all that convincing motion experience is lost when watching with computer monitor because it smooths every little movement to SD level of resolution. So result looks like sharp-soft-sharp-soft depending on camera or subject movement.
  3. Because it cant shoot stable video....
  4. Please read previous posts. My 14-140 II has POWER OIS and it jitters at every focal lenghts, every shutters speeds and every framerates and every resolutions! It is the lens that jitters so nothing else matters. I cant believe that not many can figure this matter. Maybe average people are half blind or not caring about quality in practice. Or maybe every videographers uses a tripod.
  5. The jitter is so bad that it appears in every resolution, at 720P and even in sd. I was today shooting handheld with GH4 and my old 14-42mm at a one village event and 4k clips are absolutely stunning and steady with that lens. Compared to 14-140 II clips are like shooted with a tripod. No jitter at all and very relaxing to watch. I think that clips are cleaner too because there is no jitter to consume the quite moderate GH4 bitrate for 4k. 4k clips are about twice as sharp as fullhd visually with both lenses. I dont know what do you mean by saying " doesnt resolve 4k". Okay if extreme pixel peeping 4k is not twice as sharp but the sensor at 4k (1:1) is not perfect either.
  6. @Inazuma Your example of 12-35mm is not jitter free in big screen. The example is quite short but I can see some fast jitter in it. Not so bad than in my worst clips. @cantsin I can get very sharp photos and videos with 14-140 II. Sharpness is not the problem, jitter is. @guelinator Jitter at 140mm handheld is kind of acceptable. Do you have jitter in wide shots (14mm)?
  7. Private video. I cant watch it: " problems are down to individual lenses (bad quality control?)" That is exactly what I am trying to figure out. I cant test myself another copies so I must ask other users. I cant go to service because I will be without a lens during best photo season.
  8. Thanks. Can you check your 12-35mm clips. There might be the same issue but you have not recognized it. It is kind of subtle and shows only when camera is still in video recording. My goal is to get feedback and support to my findings and inform other people if they have not figured this issue. It is then easier to contact Panasonic and ask maybe FW update. I think that this is FW fixable issue because the lens is very stable before pressing video recording on. I have also difficulties to find another copy of the lens for testing. So I dont know if my lens is faulty or if there is a global issue.
  9. I found another example from Youtube. No tripod. See how image is very still like in tripod but jitters still badly. If you cant see this micro jitter and if it is not disturbing I wonder what are your quality expectations and standards. Is this acceptable?
  10. So I now visited my store where I bought my 14-140 II. They had those lenses but they could not open boxes so I was not able to test another copy of that lens. That is a pity but I still tested their demo piece of 12-35mm which has the same kind of POWER OIS. The result was stunning: My 14-140 II and the 12-35 gave exactly the same jitter at 14mm. It was clearly visible at 2k. I had my old 14-42mm also and in comparison it was clearly the best. No vibration at all at 14mm handheld. This is beginning to be very interesting. The camera experts of the store personnel were shocked by this result. At least one of them has GH4 and 12-35mm and he promised to make his own tests and report to Panasonic about this issue. There were 4 experts and each of them admit that there is an issue of Panasonic POWER OIS. I would be very happy if the owners of Pana POWER OIS lenses could report if they can see this vibration when trying to shoot stationary video handheld. If you have 14-140 II in hand could you please make a very simple test. Shoot handheld at 14mm a stationary video clip (without moving camera) and see if the result is clean without any vibration. It is impossible for my 14-140 II but easy for my 14-42. The issue is not present when shooting "amateur style" sweeping and panning and zooming nervously. It would be very odd co-incident if those two lenses we tested would be faulty ones. People may think that some shakiness is OK with handheld video. I say that if one shoot carefully at widest end (12-14mm) it shoud be very stable. That kind of vibration is not acceptable with even cheapest camcorders. Why should we tolerate it with high end gear that costs thousands of dollars.
  11. That is so right. There is a different with 24P, 30P, 50P, 60P, 4k, lenses, AF-modes, Scene contrast and +-EV, AF accuracy, etc... Opinions and scientific tests are 2 different matters.
  12. What was the original topic ??
  13. Couple of new tests. You all with that lens should be worried. https://vimeo.com/user23310531/videos
  14. It is good that AF in video is kind of slow in generally. I still hope that in action or sports shooting it could be faster. One suggestion for FW update would be adjustable AF speed in video (2-3 speed choices) and maybe adjustable AF distance range. And please get that video AFS/AFC in some button !!!
  15. GH4 CODEC INFORMATION: (GH3 1080P has profile 4.2 cbr about 50Mbs) GH4 1080P has profile 5.0 vbr about 80Mbs max 106Mbs GH4 4k has profile 5.1 vbr about 80Mbs max 106Mbs Bitrate bits/pixel/frame: GH3 50P-0.457 GH4 60P-0.652 GH4 4k 30P-0.313 GH4 4k has relatively slow bitrate per pixel but I think that better profile compensates that partly. GH4 files are more difficult to decompress because of more complex profile. I found also an interesting thing: When shooting 1080P video in creative video mode it uses video profile 5.0 When shooting in photo mode using red video button is uses video profile 4.2
  16. You can shoot a sharp clip with motion 25 and 30 fps and watch frame by frame enlarged 200%. If there is no visual difference in macroblocking it is safe to use both. For internet delivery 30P is smoother option. The IPB compression works so that there is not a big difference in IQ. I think both has 2 big i-frames per second and 12 or 14 small p/b-frames. The only difference is 4-5 tiny p/b-frames per second.
  17. There is no FW update for this new 14-140mm. 12-35 f2.8mm had same kind of stab troubles and FW update fixed it. I just want that users of the new 14-140 could say if their lens is working better and confirm that my lens is broken.
  18. Yes GH3 and GH4 must skip something when downsampling the sensor. Is it vertical or horizontal resolution or color depth or mixture of those I dont know. GH4 1080P resolution is not perfect or normal looking downsample. There is some failing. End result is though that GH4 seems to do it better with more accurate colors and slightly better resolution. Rolling shutter is also much less noticeable.
  19. Compared to GH3 in 1080P: -Smoother colors and gradations, less banding, much better color adjustment possibilities with better color accuracy when making big adjustments. -Much better dynamic range due to new profiles. More natural tones when digging sensor to extremes. -a bit better video overal resolution and feel. Finer noise and less macroblocking. -Much less rolling shutter -Automatic exposure is more clever -AF is more accurate and reliable -EVF and LCD colors are reliable anf faithful to final result. You can judge colors when shooting. -PAL/NTSC -low light capability with auto iso is much much better
  20. When shooting 60P there are no cadence problems. Motion looks always good. It is a pity that all video systems and delivery methods are not there yet.
  21. It vibrates with or wihout ex-tele. I just used it for easier demonstration of the issue. Wide shots normally shooted handheld vibrates noticeably which is disturbing. None of my other Pana lenses does that and my friends Nikon 1 lenses are rock stable too. The lens must be broken. I just want some second opinions. Thanks for answering.
  22. This is important for me because I must talk about warranty with my dealer. Your opinions would help. Thanks.
  23. I dont know if my new 14-140 mk2 lens is broken but the stabilization in video mode is bad. It smooths big movements but leaves fast "micro jitter" or vibration which looks bad in big screen. When just looking through EVF image is stable but when I start recording image starts to vibrate and wobble. I downloaded my tests to Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/user23310531/videos I think it must be broken. Compared to my old 14-42 it vibrates very nasty. What do do think? Is this normal? I would be very thankful if someone with 14-140mm could test this too.
  24. When shooting 1080/60P 24mbs is not enough to hold detail in complex scene. I think that c100 and fs700 codecs breaks also in very sharp complex motion in 24P. Real life like video quality needs 60P and GH3/GH4 are almost only cameras which has proper codec for that. Try to shoot with 1/1000s with sharp frame and pan fast and see what happens with 24mbs codecs. GH3/GH4 1080P quality issues depends on scaler and image prosessing before codec. The codec is not limiting nothing but chroma resolution and of course bit depth. Another matter what I am wondering is that I think GH4 line skips something because it introduces moire and aliasing and resolution loss in 1080P. Certainly in 96fps.
  25. There are different levels of codec profiles in same 4:2:0 8bit h.264. The most recent and best profiles need a lot of real time processor power and gives better IQ at same data rate than "easier profiles". The real differences shows when there are lot of sharp movement in scene. GH3 50mbs codec is very good (almost like a poor mans RAW) and GH4 has even more complex profile and double the data rate. Canon rebels has less horsepower than 4-core GH4 and Canon has less efficient codec. Canon also makes fullhd from 18Mpix sensor with less sophisticated scaler which causes aliasing, moire and softness. I think that Canon must throw away very much color information too.
