    What I would like is:
    A. The frame markers and 6k 30p open gate (preferably 50/60p) from Lumix, plus,
    B. Ability to burn in RED luts, plus,
    C. Zf or e Mount, I don't mind which as all my e Mount lenses mount near natively to Zf mount, plus,
    D. FX3/30 style body.
Ability to shoot stills not required, but if it can, fair enough.
Mechanical shutter optional, - I don't care either way.
    No EVF, don't care.
    Must have good IBIS.
Must be relatively compact and not require any rigging out, ie, primarily, a really decent flip and rotate screen a la A7RV/S1H/S1Rii.
    Could be a Nikon Zr...
    Could be a Sony FX2...
Unlikely to be anything Lumix because the lens options are still just a bit lacking for me.

If they bring the RED Motion Mount technology to it, then sign me up for 2!

    from Nikon Rumors:
Brick-shaped, video-oriented design, without pentaprism and EVF – a combination of the current RED models design, the Sony FX3, and the Nikon Z30
Many features and tech from RED will be incorporated inside (not a new RED camera with Z-mount – we already got that)
    Z6 III sensor inside
    Very large LCD screen
The official announcement is expected later this year, most likely in the third or fourth quarter of 2025

I don't know what Frankenstein of a brick body would be the combination of RED/FX3/Z30, but "very large" LCD gives hope its a bit different from whats already available in the market.

If I were the modern day Chris and Jordan in a camera store somewhere I would try and explain it like this...
Buy the S5 II as it's cheapest, unless you need a few extra video features, which I'll explain in a moment. But if you're a photographer it's an easy choice, definitely S5 II best and cheapest. Unless you compare it to the Canon R8, Nikon Z6 II, Sony a7c, or wait actually I forgot the S9... That is the cheapest for photographers, except not if you are a photographer that needs to look through an EVF or wants a mechanical shutter. I'll explain what that does in a moment. But first, you say you're actually quite interested in video, so I'd recommend the S1 IIE instead, as the S5 II is already made obsolete by it, so pay the extra for the E version and you will get... erm... An E on the badge. Also are you sure you don't want to go all the way out to $3500 for the S1 II, yes that is $1000 more than a Z6 III for the same sensor and no N-RAW, worse body design, but it is the best Panasonic... for video... I think... At least for a month or 2 before the S1H II might come out, or it might not... Oh shit, we're forgetting the S1R II. That does 8K open gate now, they just gave it a firmware update. Hey, Johnny where're you're going... Come back Johnny! HEY! STAY AWAY FROM THAT CANON EOS R5 II FFS!

They must have needed to buy that 24 megapixel sensor in such large quantities, the 7 different models were a necessity.
And by the time the year is out, it might turn into 10!

I went with the GH6 again for for a few reasons...
    1. Official Arri LogC profile - it's even embedded in the metadata, so FCPX reads it as Arri footage. For someone who will probably never shoot with an Alexa, I must admit it's a stupidly cool thing...
    2. ProRes
    3. IBIS
    4. Flip up screen
Honorable Mention - I didn't realize how good the preamps in it were going to be. With good mic placement,  some of the audio is perfectly usable.

Heritage is often very undervalued these days by some companies but they are idiots because nostalgia for the good old days (even if it wasn’t as good in reality) is HUGE.
Should have bought out Olympus or Kodak…if either of those were possible.
And then it is not simply enough to use the badge, but actually design some of that heritage into your product, marketing etc.

Then it’s a bit misguided because it creates negative marketing chatter that your products are overpriced and cause probably more loss than gain of new customers.
Just price it properly in the first place and earn some, rather than lose respect.

Panasonic's launch pricing is for suckers. Just like the S9 and all the Lumix's that came before it, these will sell for 1/3 less some months later.

    I will.
Yes, the low-light issue can't be denied. I already have a bunch of lighting, so I'm not too worried about that. These new 1 inchers do seem quite nice and just as in photography the ISO and noise algorithms have advanced in the videocamera world.
There are workarounds for bokeh, as you say. When I used those old Mini DV cams we managed to produce some nice images by playing with length of the zoom and judicious placement of our subjects.
I 100% agree with you that the video cam world has advanced at a snail's pace compared to the photo world. Advancements have been few and far between.
Curiously enough, Panasonic really did innovate with the DVX200 but the competition from the DSLR world and the new MILC challengers proved too fierce. Heck, even their own internal competition was brutal with the GF7, GX80, G9, FZ-2000, GH5, GH5 and GH5s coming around near the launch of the DVX200.
Those guys in Japan were on a roll back then. As Andrew has said, their photo demise in near. IMO their fatal flaw was launching their own L mount and trying to compete with much more well established players but with 1/100 of their marketing resources and distribution channels.
They should have stuck with videocameras and, from time to time, integrate their innovations to the M43 line.
Bleh. Right now they much interested selling batteries to Tesla and Toyota.

    So the rumoured pricing:
S1 II: 3500 euros. Similar or same sensor as Z6 III (partially stacked) and similar spec?
S1 IIe: 2800 euros for the OLD sensor, same spec as S5 II but updated processor
2800 euros for a 2017 sensor that debuted in the a7 III.
The kit lens is 1000 euros. 24-60 F2.8
Panasonic have taken leave of their senses.

E for electronic shutter, to save costs.
E for Exactly the same body as the cheapo camera from 2022 to save costs.
    E for enamoured with accountancy.
E for enormous lack of creativity.
    E for eeee dear.
E for End, as in the brand, and soon the entire system as well.
E for E-mount which has a 3 year old model that's twice as good.
E for erm, do I want to sign an NDA and go to some fancy Knightsbridge business lunch to see it.

I think it's not clear whether the MAGA politicians are rational or not. Clearly, many of them know little about the government of states, which explains why there is so much fumbling about and obvious mistakes and unintended consequences. However, it's clear that Trump is a con artist. He is using the power of the presidency for personal gain. Just now there are videos showing how Trump is bragging about how he and his friends made a lot of money by taking advantage of the stock market fluctuations caused by Trump's tariffs (being turned on and off).  This is entirely rational behavior from a con artist and a narcissist. He's got the all-clear from the Supreme Court that he can't be held responsible for his official actions as president in court. Congress could still hold him responsible (impeachment), and the people maybe can (if there are free elections in the future) but it could very well happen that he gets away with it, and he's old enough that even if he does go into prison, he wouldn't be there for a long time.

Tariff wars tend to be followed by actual wars where people die. That's why the EU was founded, by removing tariffs between European states, it was thought that wars between the states can be avoided, which has been the case so far. However, for Trump, the tariffs are just a means towards personal enrichment (and his friends' enrichment), plus getting a lot of personal attention in the media that he craves.

And the centre-left parties are letting it spread and enabling it.
A lot of people are stupid, but a lot of them just feel that the traditional career politicians don't speak for them.
Then we have 4 or 5 years of this or that liberal party in power and nothing changes.
    Where is Kamala Harris now?
How do you lose to a fucking convicted felon? How useless do you have to be?
The democrats are now holding little signs up in congress!
    What is that achieving?
You can't play diplomacy games with a fascist thug.
It's one of the reasons Putin is so powerful, he had half of them round his little finger, whilst Russian influence & money was deeply embedded in western society.
The only way you remove a fascist dictator or a mafia from power is violence.
The US might be about to find that out at the next election.
In the meantime, this China trade-war is really ramping up towards a possible armed conflict, and not a lot of Trump voters realise the seriousness of what he's started.
