  1. Great stuff, Alex! As i am working my way through testing I am wondering - Are the 'PRE' files good enough now that using HLG is just as good as VLog straight out of camera?
  2. Oh dang! That is crazy - wouldnt know it wasnt from the same sensor!
  3. Looks identical! Is this showing that colors continue to match as saturation is added?
  4. Cant wait! Is it close to ready??
  5. I think it is really a subjective/preference topic because I love the look of 16mm. I can understand not loving it if you prefer a clean look. I personally am partial to a clean image and like something a bit more imperfect and organic. There is just something about grain that looks so good to me and makes an image come alive. But hey, to each their own!
  6. haha I just LOVE grain! I do wish it was still practical to shoot on film these days.
  7. Agreed! I threw some FilmConvert grain on it The subtractive color really helps give it that filmic feel. I agree about HLG, I did some tests comparing vlog and hlg versions of the lut and even after converting hlg to vlog I wasnt able to get as nice of results as with shooting vlog.
  8. Some recent tests with my new anamorphic adapter and Vlog. Really loving the color separation the lut gives. A few frames arent in focus...still practicing this anamorphic thing
  9. @Sage ok cool, that is a good rule of thumb. Thanks again
  10. Ok, so I have been running some tests under fluorescent lighting that I am pretty sure is somewhere around 4800-5200(not sure because it is ceiling light at work). I have some stills here with the GHa tungsten then daylight applied and I am curious what everyone thinks looks best? @Sage Do you recommend using Tungsten for fluorescent or daylight? I also attached my film print graded version. I am really liking the way the GHa lut is grading! The highlight rolloff really is fantastic.
  11. They look fantastic! Only the lut applied?
  12. Ok cool, that makes sense. But if we ettr should we bring that down before the lut? And that said, do you recommend ettr or are you of the belief that there is better tonality from exposing properly and not to the right?
  13. What exactly is proper cinema ire placement?
  14. Ok cool! How do you recommend making added luma adjustments? If the scene contrast is lower, do you recommend just simply stretching the luma out to the 70 ire range like a higher contrast scene? Should I use primary or log controls? Also, I assume all further adjustment should be made after the lut?
  15. @Sage So after finally caving and getting vlog and trying out a few clips. I am loving the way your lut responds to highlights and color. It is looking very nice. I was curious about what you called accelerated highlight roll off in the 700 ire range. Is it important that the highlights stay compressed around 700 ire after your lut is applied? Personally I like the look of your soft lut for a final delivery, with a few tweaks and grain added, so I am trying to understand your intent for the luts - do you see people using them for final delivery or do you expect people to do further corrections after? Just curious on why the highlights dont fill to the top of my ire...it looks fantastic, just really interesting. A lot of people talk about adding rolloff to their luts, but your seems to be far more precise and deliberate.
  16. @Sage Awesome. Yeah there are a lot of amazing vlog samples in this post!
  17. Has anyone been using HLG instead of vlog and found better tonality? @Sage which profile do you prefer hlg or vlog? Are there benefits to vlog over hlg if hlg is better for tonality?
  18. @Andrew Reid I have an a6500, and based on the particular color gamut settings, I am running into the issue where color depth cant be adjusted...So these procolor profiles cant work for the 6500/6300?
  19. So if you have to transcode for Davinci also, doesnt that defeat the point of your original gripe?
  20. Not necessarily getting involved in your discussion, but I would argue that this is incorrect. There are absolutely rec 709 to rec 709 luts.
  21. I dont think my issue is color phase. It has been at zero. I am getting a distinct oversaturation of skin tones...my qualm with toning down the red channel color depth is it only effects skin tones this way...other reds look good and natural except for skin tones...I had far better luck with sgamut color on my a7rii..it did not suffer from this same issue.
  22. Same here! I love how the color depth adds to the image, but skin tones wind up very overly red compared to everything else which looks more natural.
  23. Are you sure you can change color depth? The consensus is it is disabled..
