  1. A few test stills showing some daylight and mixed lighting - I also posted a couple different exposure of shot to show clipped highlights. I have finally developed my node structure in resolve to a powergrade with the olpf, the hue passthrough and my extra contrast added after GHa in LAB colorspace. Seeing as I how I haven't convinced work to invest in Pansonic(they use sonys sadly) I will hopefully have my first personal shoot coming up to really put GHa through its paces. Loving this conversion!
  2. @Maverick530 @Maverick530 I attached a copy of the lut i ripped before they removed it from the site. You can also apply it as a 3x3 matrix: Bottom of page 7 in this document shows the matrix required: http://www.centron.sk/Storage/Document/Product/3453-2012-08-02_Alexa_LogC_Curve-Usage_in_VFX.pdf Or a DCTL: last post on this thread: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?t=61073&p=348495 AlexaV3_EI0800_LogC2Film_EE_davinci3d.cube
  3. Ahhh very interesting. Many thanks for all your work, as usual!!
  4. Very nice! Thanks for the info. So could you elaborate on what the hue pass through setup? What is exactly is hur distortion? I think i have an idea, but was hoping you could explain. Also i notice you give several suggested methods of altering luma - but this hue pss through is your preferred method? thanks!
  5. @Sage , that looks really nice! What was your process grading those stills?
  6. Yes I would argue a lut built specific to the sensor of the Gh5 would perform differently on the GH5 than the GH4 for VLOG. Companies tweak their color science camera to camera to improve it. There are further conversions going on other than just color space transforms. This is why id guess that a company like say FilmConvert makes a new profile for every Sony camera even though they all have Slog2/SGamut...the color science is always slightly different sensor to sensor...
  7. I understand they are more powerful, but again they arent accounting for a lot of things baked into these luts within the ACES workflow. They don't account for correcting the flawed color science coming off the Gh5 sensor for example. That is a whole other thing aside from converting color spaces. And while luts arent as powerful, they can handle a lot more complex transformations than I ever realized. Not trying to say luts are better at all.
  8. I don't think you realize how powerful luts actually can be. Davinci transforms don't account for sensor interpretations..just the data sheets that each manufacturer provides on their flavor of log profile.
  9. im so excited for this! Looks really good - the low light color is impressive.
  10. On another note about browser accuracy...someone posted this in the fb color grading group. Could be of some help, but haven’t tried it yet.
  11. Hey thanks! I definitely dig the contrast you have added and will take a look at those adjustment layers..suppose it was just a taste thing when i was exporting. Im constantly trying to shape a look for myself ha. As far as the grain goes, i use gorilla grain. For these its at 100% opacity, but i use the hsl qualifier in resolve and key the grain out of the shadows which helps it be less overwhelming and is actually more how true film grain responds.
  12. Ahh i see - I guess i didn't realize the wb sliders were that complex. Will do going forward. In the case where I can't regularly use a grey or white card to balance, do you recommend the presets, or dialing in the temp manually? I assume the presets may have green and magenta shifts? It is also worth mentioning those second two shots were HLG..I have since decided to start shooting vlog.
  13. Definitely not super neutral on those second two...the people are in doors under fluorescents but right next to a large doorway so it is a weird balance for sure, plus i wasnt able to set a custom wb(i usually don’t have the luxury with work) so i tried to stay closer to daylight as we shooting near the doorway a lot and outdoors. So do you not recommend using wheels to balance the entire image in this situation? Is it still better suited to use the wb sliders?
  14. These two have Grain plates instead of FilmConvert grain because FC softens the image.
  15. A few more stills - this time no print luts...just 16mm grain and a slight curve per Alex's document recommendation. The more I look at these images and watch 16mm films on Vimeo, the more I feel like the color characteristics are really reminiscent of 16mm. Pretty neat! Not to say the images don't model the Alexa well, but the Alexa is also modeling film for the most part. I can't get over how good your highlight roll off is in this lut. My one question would be, do you recommend un-ganging the rgb curve in Resolve and just doing a luma curve, or should I keep it ganged?? I saw this 16mm film this morning:
  16. Much better exposure on this shot..and applied grain differently to just mids and highlights...also and differet more neutral print lut
  17. Would that mean they altered it for video shooting also?
  18. Not sure if ya’ll saw, but you can now shoot raw stills with vlog-l. Meaning i can use my video workflow for color grading now! Whoot!!
  19. Png does seem to help a lot with these posts. Your skintones are second to none with your lut. No one else is doing what you are with the subtractive nature of GHa. The smoothness and gradation of color is totally amazing! Always look forward to your updates!
  20. A Couple more. First with just GHa and second with my film look. Superb highlight roll off!! Side note - My god does the contrast get messed up with direct photo uploads!! Color looks SO faded compared to the actual stills. I gotta get a flickr account lol.
  21. Hey thanks! Yep, i used your olpf suggestion, loving the effect. I agree, that blue green separation along the skyline is fantastic.
  22. Here are a couple quick stills from some current work - shooting Vlog. First still is just with Gha with some grain, second with a film print lut and the gamma converted to Cineon. Loving this GHa lut!!
