  1. This is the big thing, everybody is comparing it to the D850 best in class AF. I mean it is better than anything except the D5 and perhaps Cano 1dx in the whole wide camera world. Now some would say it is Nikon pricing, but if does the D850 has nearly full frame AF coverage, which would make z7 a much better camera for studio, landscape, portrait work. I could even add for general people photography where you don't have to recompose everytime. Then you can add the video, video AF, IBIS etc which are either very bad or not even present on the D850. We don't know, a millimeter might make a big difference in IBIS, the other thing that I think is more important is the perhaps the mount size and flange distance, the rays are supposed to be straighter when hitting the sensor, so sensor has to move less could be another reason. That's just speculation, but in the end from some report it works much better than the Sony.
  2. The reason is simple, no company want's to cannibalize their own video camera business. People should understand that no company is some kind of saint who wants to give its customers everything for nothing. The Pana and Sony of this world have happily given a lot until now, but when you are reaching that threshold where you would reach 99% of what users would need so that many might never upgrade to their higher end camera, they start to get more conservative. For me one of the last barrier for that 99% was reach when Nikon introduced 10 bit at the Cinema 35mm and plus size. Not disregarding Pana Gh5, just about the right size would be apsc for me. If say a Nikon z7/6 came with everything they already have plus 60 or 120p 4k, how many would buy the next model. In case of Nikon, I think they are genuinely giving everything they have for that package. If it was not their first mirrorless camera and they could device one the size of a D5, perhaps they would have put 60p 4k.
  3. You mean 99% of shows, some like game of thrones are so industrial. https://www.facebook.com/TeamARRI/posts/heres-an-inside-look-at-battle-of-the-bastards-its-the-game-of-thrones-biggest-v/10154274524264061/ From what have seen, 99% of amateurs will shoot RAW because they think it is going to make a difference. In fact if you can't do good to very good video/film with a 10 bit log prores file, RAW won't change anything. The garbage in front of the camera won't miraculously transform into gold just because it is raw.
  4. If someone speaks italian it would be cool as it seems very video centric. This guy is the first that I have seen that is doing V-log, can someone tell him to tone down the sharpening or Canon is right to limit its camera vlogging to 1080p lol. He uses some sigma long zoom and in some of the shot video autofocus of the plane looks very good.
  5. I don't know if we can qualify this as poor, I also think I read that it does the video through hdmi, which means higer bitrate,
  6. When you think about it, it is really at the DX level that the mirrorless camera would do a big difference in terms of size (lens) and even cost, because in the end a MILC is much less costly to build. I think just the cost will make them introduce cheaper APSC models, but when is the question. Nice video from z7 and D500
  7. This video I think is the highest production value that I have seen. What I like about Nikon colours is that they are normal, you can just apply a little contrast and saturation and they are good to go. If you want the more aggressive yellow and teal look you also can, but at least if you want some normal colours you don't have to tweak or apply all knind of lut. This one is as natural as can be.
  8. One thing that most don't understand is that those supposed cheap (performance) because they are 1.8 but costly for the 1.8 are nothing like 1.8 primes before them which have always been the entry level more affordable primes to the top of the line 1.4 -1.2. These primes are exceptional wide open like in those test https://nikonrumors.com/2018/09/19/more-nikon-z7-camera-reviews.aspx/ At ISO 64, the Z7 captures 2822 line pairs per picture height (LP/PH), 103 percent of the theoretical maximum. In comparison, the Nikon D850 captured 2591 LP/PH at ISO 64 – 94 percent of the theoretical maximum. While Nikon has been clamoring from the get go that its new mount and S line where top of the line, all those youtubers and their 5 minutes attention span followers have been dishing them a some kind of cheap 1.8 shit that Nikon was overpricing. In fact,if right now I had no big lens investment, I would look a lot a Nikon Z mount, because this clearly is a look at the future. With the optical performance of the S-line from the kit zoom to their 1.8 primes being that good, I can be very confident in the future of the z mount lens. Now when you add that they are silent and zero breathing, with what is looking at super IBIS with the large mount, I would say that the master stroke of this launch, is not the very good z7 and hopefully z6 that Nikon has launch, but the Zmount. Sony and I guess Panasonic will struggle in the long run against Nikon and Canon with their larger mount. I am curious to know where did you see that the Nikon has 1 or 2 stop better DR than Sony?
  9. Again, compare apples to apples. This is primarily a studio landscape photo camera with very good video. Its competitors would be medium format cameras that would cost 2 to 5 times more. For what it is for a studio fashion landscape photographer it is very good value to money.
  10. The Z7 is a very specialized high megapixel camera that does video. The Z6 is clearly the ideal allrounder hybrid photo/video camera. Perhaps if Nikon would have lauch only the z7 we could have compared it to the other cameras. But when you think about it, its a full frame camera for only 400-500 usd more. I think it is very very competitive. Little example of IBIS
  11. You do understand that in the last video the guy was using a 105 1.4 lens. I personally don't think that these are practical for filmmaking at all for close-ups of the face, as the example above shows is that it becomes weird to see just the eyes in focus, it might be use only when simulating someone dizzy etc.
  12. His findings goes against nearly all other ones I saw. The general consensus is that the AF works as good or as bad as the lens you are using. I mean if you are using a fast lens it will be about as fast as it is on Fmount. I mean it might be a fraction slower, but I can live with that kind of tracking everyday. In fact there are shot I would never have been able to do like in this video manually like subject moving toward me and same time zooming at 70-200 FF at 2.8.
  13. Another thing to take into consideration with lens is that they are designing them with video in mind. Those new Z lens have zero breathing. Many are still in the Nikon has no clue about video etc. In the 9-12 month when the Pana full frame etc will come out, they will still be looking just at the 60 4k to confirm their feelings. But for me I saw a lot small touches that make me think that they are very video centric like the lens above, the second pin for anti twist plate and the preview for Nlog, which is like an inbuilt lut which will be damn good for judging exposure. I also saw an unboxing with some camera with some cable lock for hdmi.
  14. You do understand that with the FTZ adapter, you have all the modern Nikon lens (the last 10-20 years) which work natively on the z series camera. We are not talking about lens that won't focus, meter etc. but work as good with fast focus etc. This already makes the Z cameras have a big advantage in terms of lens compared to any Sony. Now ad the Sigma's which all work very well on the Z and some Tamron's. I am sure Tamron will be working to make sure all their lens work. Some like the 24-70mm is working. Then you have all the lens that can be adapted, we already saw a lot of adapter coming on. https://nikonrumors.com/2018/09/24/12-novoflex-lens-adapters-for-nikon-z-mirrorless-camera-officially-announced.aspx/
  15. I saw the other day a rear anamorphic adapter and saw that Slr Magic was launching big front anamorphic adapter. There used to be a time when they were taking a lot of feedback here, I was going to ask with Nikon Z and dare I say Canon R , they could do a much simpler rear adapter for much less. I understand you don't get oval bokeh and flares , but the adapter could have fine lines on the lens or like fishing lines diy adapters. We would get at least 2 of the anamorphic characteristic. You could also add an oval type aperture for the oval bokeh look. was lau
  16. Very nice video, I asked the guy if he used IBIS, this is his response "Most of the time I am Handheld the camera, IBIS is Awesome, you have to try, I think it is much better than my A7III." that's very encouraging.
  17. Nice example with VR (ibis) on, when he is not walking the duck step it looks good. I think with some more careful walk (gimbal style ninja one) it can be quite good. Low light test (youtube), its not ideal but gives a little idea, I guess usable until 10 000 iso. The z6 could then go to 20 000 iso.
  18. One of the biggest advantage of Full Frame for me is that you can use those super versatile F4 zoom on your camera for 99% of the shots. I intend to get the 24-70 F4 which will cover 80-90% of normal use when you counter in APSC mode. Something like the 24-120 Nikon would be a 24-180 with the Apsc mode and would cover 99% of my need for reportage shooting. The big advantage is that F4 on a full frame is like f 2.8 35mm cinema dof, so you still have plenty of shallow DOF. The second advantage is shooting in LOG format which is generally 800 ISO. To get proper ND to shoot at these high ISO during daytime is very very costly. You would need to close down your aperture again to at least F4 and F5.6 and the Full frame would again get you better DOF control. Nice, thats the guy who did Nikon music video, shoulder rest rig, no stab. What I like is the rack focus in some of those shots, very organic. Nice
  19. Some AF video stabilization test. I those videos, the AF looks very very good (I mean as if using tripod), stabilization looks very good from a standpoint but I dont know what to say about the only walking I saw. It doesn't look good, but I don't know if someday I would walk like this shooting a video. People who have been using more IBIS might have a better idea if it is good or bad. In this one you have those walking stabilized shots, AF sometime is sick in this thing another more general video test of z7
  20. WOW so you come here and tell us how "GH5 looks better at ISO5000 than the Z6 in these examples at ISO8000" and then you show us one example of your work where the blacks are completely clipped while in the Nikon one we can see a lot of detail in the shadows. In fact, that's the amazing thing in this footage is the dynamic range at such high ISO. Getting all those nuances from the moon/lights in the tent to the subtle mist in the mountains. Could you show us some footage of the GH5 shot at higher ISO with such nuance from the highlight of the moon/lamps in the tent to those misty shadows, even seeing the green of the grass like in this video. Everyone who has shot at night know how difficult it is to get either details from an artificial lamp or the surrounding nature. Generally you have to choose to expose from one or the other. The last thing, before lecturing people and critisizing a beta camera that you have never used, try to ask before about things like noise removal and sharpening settings. What do you know the reason the guy sharpened it, I will give you one, perhaps he wanted his 1080p 120 fps footage to match a bit closer to the 4k one, for obvious reasons. The last last thing before anyone make any assumption, the night footage was shot 8000 iso and above, it is written and the end of the film. So we might have 10-25 K iso or even more in there.
  21. My bad, I misread you, I am pretty sure you have this functionality Nikon for video and photo setting different. Another solution is use a fader ND. The big advantage now is that you can use viewfinder to set exposure.
  22. Is it confirmed for the Pocket 4k?
  23. Black magic I meant. If someone told me that someday you could shoot raw for under 100 mbit, I would think he is crazy LOL
  24. Do they have a 1080p version? Shoot 1080p raw for 75 mbs lol.
