  1. The a7s and RED cameras both produce images as sharp as the GH4. I know they're several times more expensive, but it still demonstrates that a technically good video image can be attained with larger sensors.

As for that lens.. Well I think wide lenses have a particular application. The shots you took are wide but not necessarily interesting. And they are not as impressive as what you get from the gopro.

  2. The grading looks odd there imo. The light coloured building sticks out too much and the sky looks really fake. The process is also a bit clumsy. You would be better off doing a direct link into Speedgrade.

Not digging at your work btw; I think your other videos look very nice. Especially the Adidas advert.

  3. Now the Annoying Fixed horizontal pattern noise is GONE!!! The "Video HQ 40mbps Bit-rate" fot Nikon D5200 hack did it.. The noise is now like in D5300.

Do you have any proof? Because the fixed pattern noise happens at the sensor level (ie. it appears in RAW files too). I doubt a different bitrate could fix that.

  4. This again. Ok folks, repeat after me:

Focal length is focal length. It does not matter what frame it covers.

FoV equivalent is taking the lens's focal length and multiplying by whatever modifiers are present. In the case of a speed booster on m4/3, it's 0.7, followed by 2.0, for a total factor of 1.4.

You're just being pedantic. Everyone knows that it's only the FoV that really changes, but it's easier to talk about in terms of 35mm focal length.

  5. Anyone have experience with manual focusing on the Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4? Is the speed constant? As in, it doesnt focus faster or slower based on how fast you turn the ring? And what is the degree of the throw?

Also I know that a 24mm lens on APS-C has the same field of view as a 35mm on full frame, but does it have the same compression?

Also, is there any way to create a hard infinity focus stop for modern lenses such as the Sigma 18-35mm?

Also, how does one add a follow focus gear to a lens that has grooves on the focus ring? eg. '>

  6. Recently came across this

    Camera : Panasonic GH4
    Lens : SLR Magic 35 t/1.4
    LUT : Impulz LUT (kodak Vision3 50D 5203) // Visioncolor Osiris m31 LUT
    Cinema 4K 4096 x 2160
    Picture Profile : Cinelook D
Grain : Filmconvert super 16mm (cinema 4k is roughly around the same size as super 16mm so I use grain of that size to bring me closer to the look of true film)

    Looks very pretty :)

You should check out the guy's other stuff too. It appears that before he had the GH4, he was using the

  7. Your calculations are correct :) But keep in mind that when considering the DOF, you must also multiply the aperture. So whilst 85mm f1.4 Zeiss will gain a stop of light gathering (to f1.0), the DOF will be more like an f2.0.

This is why I personally sold the 12-35mm f2.8. Because the DOF was more like f5.6, which is not shallow enough for me. I don't use shallow DOF all that often, but I like to have the option of it.

  8. I love taking still photos at night. And as a video camera, this has everything I could want. If it had shutter angle control, less rolling shutter, sideways flipout screen and OIS, it would be a dream camera.

Not sure why everyone is hating on the colour. Looks fine to me!

Only thing is that it was kind of creepy to see all these teenagers making out and drinking in their assumed privacy!

  9. What really astonishes me is the amount of detail (seems more than the GH4) and the dynamic range, I mean this kind of shadow and highlight information is nothing I can get even close to with the GH4

I think you're hyperboling a bit there sir.

This is from my GX7 with shitty Variable ND that creates a bit more noise than there should be.

And here it is with an Auto Light Balance effect.

if I used a better filter and graded it properly, the tones and colour would look better. If I had the option to use a better codec than the 28mbps 50fps then the result would look better again.

Still, the A7s no doubt pulls off very natural looking DR. But the GH4 isn't a camera that "cant even come close" to getting nice range. Unless youre telling me the GH4 has a worse sensor than the GX7..
