1. Great read thanks and absolutely agree that not everything must be artificially lit. But I personally think that lighting is always controlled, at least if you do your job as a dp. You say yourself that you shoot in a certain time frame so you are already controlling the natural light source with this simple choice. And then with the placement of your subject, use of a reflector or diffusion, custom color balance etc you are controlling the light as much as you possibly can. I think this makes the difference between bad/decent and great photography. So I agree with your article about using the surroundings environment and lighting conditions but that does not mean you should just shoot as is, a little control with a reflector or a smart character placement will make a big difference imo
2. So I went out with a friend who has a steady cam to try some shots with the anamorphic and it was a disaster  . Because of the horizontal squeeze tiny inclinations of the camera made the vertical perspectives shift a lot. Could be useful for some shots where the protagonist is drunk or drugged haha but otherwise the footage gives you a headache. But we both suck at operating the steady cam anyways so maybe it's doable when operated by someone with decent skills Anybody on here already successfully recorded anamorphic steady cam shots?
3. thanks to both of you! I just started testing my anamorphic lens so I should have a new video up soon :)
4.
Here are some samples of the same subject that I shot in succession with some of my lenses that you may find to be helpful in your
Very interesting vid thanks for sharing
5. definitively does sound very promising what a crazy time we are living in, affordable high quality cameras just seem to keep coming one after the other. Also with the release of creative cloud we get the full range of needed software for cheap. I really feel lucky to have so much at my disposal to be creative looking forward to read more about this camera
6.
But, will be the last photography lens I buy, going for cinema lenses now, I primarily and majority shoot for cinema than I do photography.
What is the difference between cinema and photographic lenses?
7.
You will be surprised Karim ;)
gladly! Anyways within an affordable price range there is the black magic camera but I'd like to see more footage first and get some user feedback
8. thanks! can't wait to start having fun with my anamorphic. Busy with work for now but as soon as I have some spare time I will be out shooting
9. Maybe but I can't help but be a little pessimistic about the gh3. I think people expect too much with those threads on what we would like to see in it and all those cool features... I think we must not forget that it was not made for us it's a consumer camera. So I don't see why they would design the gh3 for anyone except mass market like the older version. Will they really focus on improving the video quality of their photo camera that does video or worry more about including trendy useless features that will make it appealing to the average consumer? I think the latter but I'd be happy to be wrong
10.
The GH3 is supposed to be announced next month. If it were me I'd wait or you might end up kicking yourself.
Even if it is actually announced next month, usually when they announce a new product you have to wait months for it to actually come out, and delays seem to be the trend this days. We'll see
11. nice but all you shot is the sun and the rest is hard to make out I guess you wanted those anamorphic flares ;) I'd be happy to see your next test with some elements properly exposed and in focus to see what your lens can do
12. interesting read. I did not notice that yet, but I did notice a lot of flashing artifacts in dark parts of my images is that a known issue as well?
13. Hello everyone, I first heard of the gh2 and anamorphic lenses on this blog and I got curious. After reading and reading I finally decided to take the leap and ordered one. Although I'm not new to images from my post-production trade I am new to film making and it's fascinating. I'll share the videos of my journey in this thread, there is a complete rundown of each vid on vimeo if you are interested. I should get my anamorphic clamps and diopter next week, can't wait to get them and finally try my anamorphic lens! :) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts thanks http://vimeo.com/46627432 http://vimeo.com/46683852
