  1. Damn I thought it was the same size? I think my brain drive is running out of space and deleting old stuff. Off to the mad house with me!
  2. The Video Attachments were the last of the 54s. they have 1.33 stretch and are mechanically pretty much the same as 54s though seem to feel smoother to focus if I remember rightly i had the video attachment II which was the very last one. Super sharp And multi coated, not really a character lens... yes it was single focus. I only got rid of it because it was just so damn big I didn't use it much. i feel calling it an iscorama is fair. When I sold it on eBay I was repeatedly messaged by someone (practically) telling me I was a terrible person and threatening to report me for calling it such! Damn people do get wound up about things don't they? in reality calling it an Iscorama is a perfectly fair description since it is one, just a later model with different words printed on it and a different stretch. i think the price here is too hot and you probably won't make that much. Have a look at sold listings for Video Attachment and reconsider. I'd say closer to £1200-2000 (you can convert to euros!) depending on a bunch of factors, like wind speed and direction. I must admit, I changed up for a pre 36.
  3. yes, I have a panel with similar coverage. I just make it look good on this and occasionally reference on a more standard monitor. sometimes you need to make things look very vivid for them to work well on your average Joe's screen in After Effects you can apply a working profile that limits the colour to lovely disappointing rec709, for example
  4. I'm having second thoughts about the FS5 too due to colour quality. Slog2 has a kind of Kodaky bluish tint built in that I'm struggling to dial out on the RX10 ii regardless of grading or colour matrix programming in the profile. If I don't use Slog it's not so bad and I can match it with other cameras, but then I don't get the dynamic range. It's certainly not as pliable as C100 footage even at twice the bitrate. on this point the Ursa looks great. But that media is extremely expensive so there's another downside. Ursa has an Alexa like look to it that's amazing for the money. Still, will it be genuinely usable on set and will it arrive anywhere close to on time? Will they be fulfilling preorders for 6 months after its released? The fact that every BMD camera seems to miss the release date by months and months is pretty silly, it's broken trust from everyone I know in the company keeping their word when it comes to release. Also despite this the final products sometimes have large flaws that need fixing in firmware or hardware. better late than never right? i don't understand the 12G SDI... I suppose they're assuming this will go to some studios for studio work, but I'm not entirely sure that's where their biggest market is with the cameras, even though they're entrenched there with other gear. In that sense it's a hedges bet: part enthusiast film-maker's camera part broadcast ready budget S35 camera... there are compromises everywhere except image quality. I think that's what I mean when put simply. so far, despite my head saying otherwise, the image is making me think they're worthwhile... That said, I've always toyed with the idea of BMD like this, and ended up with the Canon "easy life" instead hence asking for opinions
  5. I'm not brilliant at lens tech or terminology. I have a pre 36, this sounds interesting, but I can't quite work out what you will be doing to the lenses... would you be able to explain it in "optics for dummies" please?
  6. I think you'll find that the viewfinder is an optional extra on the 2015 model.
  7. I haven't! what's the newest f5 deal?!
  8. The one I mentioned is just the lav mic, the wireless pack is a separate thing. we use DPA mics on Audio Technica wireless packs in the uk.
  9. DPA D:screet series are a personal favourite. Very good vocal tone and ambient rejection not budget, but of course nor is your 416!
  10. Personally I'm not provoked by the iPhone, in fact I use it sometimes for quick shots on professional shoots. The thing that provokes me is using misleading titles as clickbait, which in turn serves to misinform those who are learning.
  11. It makes great pictures, but it's a glitchy bugger.
  12. I'm guessing it's aSony thing. They all work fine in the C100s. Oddly, the cheapest cards all work fine in the Sony...
  13. And looks like it, because of nasty auto-exposure shifts (Filmic Pro app would help get rid of these) because every single shot is a wide angle, and the only ones with shallow DOF are thus wide-angle close ups. Imagine trying to separate an actor from a busy background, you'd have to put the camera next to their nose! Very flattering... It's a very limiting way to shoot. Any camera can look alright with sunset and some moody piano. Try and make a real project with it though, instead of a blog roll and you'll likely get annoyed. Unless of course you're using "shot on iphone" as your main reason to watch, as some have. Sure you could add lens attachments, rigging, and so on, but why bother? You're then trying to boost up a sensor the size of a lentil rather than just shoot with one of the many great cameras available for not much money. For pick ups, sure why not, sometimes you get a shot you'd otherwise miss: I used iphone footage on a paid job because C100 has no high frame rates. but I don't see much point just using a phone to shoot to make a point...
  14. The fact they've clearly fucked the settings on the A7s and FS7 makes me want to not trust any of it! Such a rookies mistake... just set it to Slog, jesus...
  15. Imagine if this happened when you already had footage on there! You could either reformat or stop shooting... This sort of thing makes me nervous about using bridge cameras and consumer cameras for paid work...
  16. That is some grotesque magentaface grading... it looks like what happens if you start with Sony colour, then move the colourwheels by using dice and whiskey to make your decisions. On the original subject I actually use the iPhone for little pickups and stuff, it's pretty good for that. In that way it's more useful than a Nikon SLR! The original video title is just clickbait though
  17. Here's a giant picture of the memory cards that work. I couldn't find how to resize...
  18. Yeah it's a pretty sad display... Unfortunately two of the cards that don't work despite meeting the specs are SanDisk. One is Transcend. The four that do work are all Integral Ultima Pro X which were the cheapest of the lot.
  19. I'll post back when i have more info, I bet the card will be fine in the C100, those cameras still record if you push a potato into the SD slot Of my SD cards that meet the specs Sony states are needed for 4k and 100p, 4 out of 7 actually work. That's not a great hit rate.
  20. Hmm I'll give the card a test then... Transcend 64GB SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 U3
  21. during a shoot it stopped recording and said something along the lines of "failed to read card" then went black and seemed to crash it rebooted and told me I should try and recover files. This failed, from then on it said it failed to read the card. this card had worked for the previous day and the current one, but suddenly went wrong. the camera was fine with another memory card. LUCKILY all the files were there one I got to a computer, but i didn't use the camera for the rest of the day as I didn't want to risk it. it seems VERY temperamental about SD cards, even ones that clearly meet the states specs...
  22. There do seem to be some real irritations: touch screen control means a greasy invisible mess in daylight conditions and probably slow operation Viewfinder is an expensive add on Continuous encodes for audio instead of knobs with hard stops 1080 is a center crop only Really expensive media in the form of cfast expensive and heavy batteries in the form of V-lock etc the image looks great so far though. Let's hope there's no more hidden firmware/hardware gremlins waiting
  23. Well now it's me and you so it's a justified we hmm from my experience of pocket I did find menus a bit slow and things not to be in the best place. It's seems it's all touchscreen so it could be slow...
  24. hi all, Just interested to get some opinions. so far we've had once piece of footage, I can't find a way to embed it so here it is on another blog: http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/06/13/new-footage-from-the-blackmagic-ursa-mini-4-6k/ the dynamic range and skin tones look lovely as does resolution, footage seems jolly good. I am however worried about the camera itself, as someone who once had a preorder down on an earlier model and cancelled as all sorts of delays happened and problems arose once when the camera was out there. i also have a friend whose camera broke on day one on a shoot, leaving him to use a backup he had luckily brought in the form of a GH2 (remember those?;) as such I can't bring myself to preorder, despite lovely footage and a low price I still feel it's a... Gamble. Which is sad. I'd like to be more trusting but still... This is real money and real work... is anyone out there with more courage than I taking the plunge? If so let us know!
