  1. Very good commentary Andrew. Well said. It's the rise of being offended and the loss of freedom of speech.
  2. Well said. I can understand Jeremy thinking about leaving with the BBC acting the way they do. Political correctness kills creativity and also intrudes into essentially private spats. Don't agree with the UKIP comment (it contradicts the not freedom from offense argument) but everything else you're right on.
  3. Quoted for truth. I still don't quite believe it's not there cos I try to use it every day. I find the 1080 focus on my rx100 is easier to manage in some ways.
  4. I've changed my mind. Not on the softness and CA, but on reflecting on others comments: B has wider colour separation. And the shadows on the far left B cup are perfectly smooth while on the A cup they merge into solid blocks.
  5. A looks clearer and way sharper and has no chromatic aberation. B looks considerably softer and has huge CA around letters. Umm, A for RAW I guess. If I don't maximise them to the 4k monitor I'd prefer the B. But at 4k it looks like very average still from video and A looks much better.
  6. They all crop the sensor (inc. 3:2) but not because of the shape/sensor proportions, it's because the number of pixels needed to make the 4k is way less than the sensor has available. So again, if you take a stills picture it has a way greater field of view than any of the 4k video stills options.
  7. And the latest round of Adobe updates are here and now Windows apps have full scaling! Yup, all the CC apps now scale perfectly to high dpi screens and this reviewed screen looks great with it. I'm a very happy camper now.
  8. I've had one since mid July. As you say, 4k is stunning. Colours are stunning. The only downside is that on the PC platform scaling is a little more varied between different programs. So windows scales, browsers like Firefox scale. Chrome doesn't scale well. Most Adobe products don't scale. So for video editing I have to lean forward every so often to see what I'm clicking on. But all the advantages so outweigh that one disadvantage. Currently running off a single display port cable to a GTX780. I can't work out how to upload a picture here. So here's a screencap of what the menu sizes and icons look like for Premiere on PC. HD screen on right (monitor mode). Desktop4K + 1080 Edit: 5cm scale added
  9. So which is the best for the GH4 if you have no lenses at all? The coming new Nikon MFT, the new electronic Canon MFT, or the old Nikon MFT?
  10. This was the most entertaining conversation I have read for ages. Well done to everyone! :)
  11. Yea that stuff at 9:15 is crazy. But like he said, Panasonic is making positive noises about fixing it.
  12. Well that was rather impressive. The hit at the end when you realise that every optical illusion is actually part of a grander illusion affecting the entire set is amazing.
  13. 1) Youtube does pay per view. It's not like facebook where you have to pay facebook in order to get people to view your content. 2) How big does the equipment on youtube need to be to do what they do? What percentage of the world's hard-drives are owned and used by Google and Youtube? 3) It's a platform. Almost all of the Youtube channels I follow use the channel to promote various things like a) their own products for sale b) friendly advertisers who approach them privately c) in support of other things they do. I don't think any of them try to make an income from google ads alone. So that was in defense. On the other side: 1) They pinged one of my videos for having someone's music in it when it was wind blowing on the mic. Still not resolved two months later. Not good enough. 2) They ping my videos when I have paid for music like from Neumann. 3) There really could be better options for putting videos up with sync music. But COPYRIGHT KILLS CREATIVITY And that's not our copyright, it's the corporation copyright. Disney et al. He copied everyone but then changed the laws so people couldn't copy his stuff that he'd copied.
  14. Either. If you're not cropping the 4k then you mind as well edit on 4k timeline. But it doesn't change anything either way you go (as far as I can tell from doing both methods) because Premiere doesn't edit according to what the timeline is anyway. It shoves everything into its own 32 bit floating point editing space. The timeline might affect how quickly previews come up but that's about it.
  15. It will appear wider with the MBSB than without it. It won't appear wider than on a FF camera. The GH4 is 2.3x crop in 4k mode, not 2x.
  16. The 4K Ex-Tele thing in post is very useful as it's fully zoomable in post of course. For people wondering, the in-camera version of the Ex-tele mode works in the HD modes so if you turn it on then it acts as an extra reminder should you accidentally switch from 4k to HD. Hmmm if it starts to do 1:1 in 1080 ex-tele I wonder if that might appear better quality than the averaging thing it does normally...?
  17. 5 out of 30 students preferred the 5D when shown via a projector. One of those said that preference was because of the colours. For me, every scene on the GH4 looks better (projector or HD screen) with the one exception of the out of focus wall with tree at the very top. The GH4 shots are exactly the type of image I'm after. Will use the kit lens for a bit before thinking about speedbooster.
  18. Confirmed wide release this morning in New Zealand, although in fairly low numbers. YAGH unit not due to arrive until later in the year. $2298 Body, $3490 kit 12-35. Note there is $100 cash back care of OHBaby magazine and Panasonic.
  19. Has arrived in NZ today (Friday) so should be in retail stores from Monday 5th at the earliest. Pretty sweet worldwide release logistics.
  20. You know you can also introduce colour as well as caps capitals and bold. This helps to get the point across even betterer.
  21. The first model was the GH1. The GH4 is quite a ways down the track.
  22. Panasonic NZ on facebook has said in the shops definitely the first week of May. If that's of any help. Best regards on this Anzac Day.
