1. What are the screw threads for then? My guess is you can have a couple of rods in there for a mini rig, or add the full cage via the mountings on the bottom of the YAGH unit. More options is good.
2. Dude, you posted that same exact post 4 pages ago. Not necessary.
3. There are only 7 shots that seem out of focus and out of place in comparison to the rest of the shots and in comparison to the sharpness from the AX100 sample video. Most of them are the copter shots where checking focus would be even harder and might include some cropping for digital zoom and maybe some post stabilisation? 0:09 Temple fly over 0:29 Birds fly over and crop? 0:44 Temple fly over 1:00 Temple fly over 1:19 Birds crop? 1:23 Birds (focus on background, telephoto) 1:44 Beach stabilized The shots right next to all of them look great. Unfortunately those are some of the nicest shots due to the movement in them. This opinion is from viewing on various 1080 monitors.
4. Very interesting review. I notice the GM1 still ends up higher on your ranking for the month list? I presume the difference is, if you have the tripod/stabalisation sorted then the GM1 is preferable. If it's the run and gun and you need the stabalisation then EM1 can give a better image due to it not being shaken to pieces? Anyways, the confusing bit was when you said "Select ProRes 444 in your Premiere timeline settings and don't edit in native H.264" Now I understand the export in Prores bit, that makes sense, but the edit in prores bit confuses me. Premiere does not really edit in H.264. It reads the 264 into its own 32bit colour space and "codec" which is superior to pretty much everything. The final render uses the original source files and not the timeline codec unless you also select the "use rendered files" or similar option which I can't see how that would benefit either as that just adds another level of re-compression. That's the theory from Laser Pacific but I haven't sat down and tried it. Edit: http://guruv.wordpress.com/2011/05/24/why-edit-canon-5d-7d-footage-in-premiere-pro/
5. Seriously only 30p with no PAL version? Our electricity is 50Hz... Bizarre.
6. I'm clueless, that's why I was asking. I do note that in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=fEm8h7T8-lY#t=206 it states, in the context of "clean hdmi" video output, that "the camera shoots raw." Now that really makes no sense if they have suddenly flipped back to talking about stills. DPreview says that they "were told" "In addition, the camera's footage can be output over HDMI, either with settings overlays for monitoring or without, for recording (and, we're told, with the option for uncompressed 4:2:2 video output)." http://***URL removed***/previews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx10/4 Which would be something rather new.
7. So the advertised 4:2:2 on the RX10/7a will be better than avc but not quite as good?
8. I must be blind, but I don't see a 35mm on their website. There's 50mm and 25mm etc. Is it like a 35mm equivilent and named differently?
9.   Not sure how that would work. A reducer located after the lens would just reduce and reproduce at a smaller size whatever image the lens gave you, including any depth of field effect. Not that I know anything special about it.
10.
I asked about it on another topic - is there any chance to have all the framerates (60, 50, 30, 25, 24 fps) not just PAL or NTSC in final version of firmware?
Wouldn't that be a political problem more than anything? They would have to limit the recording time for the whole camera to be sold in Europe to get the cheaper tax rate but if it was the same camera then everyone would buy the USA model and import. It does my head in, too complicated. Silly tax imho.
11.
EOSHD: Because I noticed this is a standard four thirds sensor, because the GH2 had a multi-aspect ratio sensor. The GH3, does that have multi-aspect ratio sensor? Inoue: This is a priority for imaging quality, our big priority is keeping that image sensor quality.
So that means...? I guess it means he wants to prioritize quality over functionality, ie. no multi-aspect sensor?
EOSHD: Regarding the audio, is there an XLR accessory? Is this available now or coming later? Inoue: No XLR. [But] the GH3 has a 3.5″ jack.
That's huge! Way bigger than 3.5mm. :D Great interview. Cool to talk to someone who doesn't speak your language but is clearly a very brainy person.
12. Wasn't there a release date hinted at in September/October? In which case there isn't enough time to act on any suggestions received now?
13. I totally agree with your comment about there (usually) being a difference between writers, directors, and the cinematographer. The 30 minute docco came across as sadly lacking the former two. The un-ending naming of people they thought were great cameramen was utterly non-entertaining for me. The video seems low res? I'd like to be able to download a bigger version but the link to the actual vimeo site seems not working. Comparing everything at "sort of" 720 is a bit meh. The Red forum seems a bit het up by it. But here is the main question. They go on about how wonderful they are for 25 minutes... and then have the video and audio out of sync...? I can't imagine a more embarrassing situation really. Also the last part is going to be 3 months old when they finally finish it surely? The old guy trying to be cool and swearing at the start just made him look silly. One part I did like was the Aussie guy and his accent.
