Jacek reacted to maxotics in BMPCC vs GM1
As much as I love the BMPCC, and I do, I can no longer ignore how much time and effort I work on shooting, copying and grading the footage. Video is secondary for me. So I bought a GM1 based on Andrew's insight and have to agree that when time is at a premium I can get more done with the GM1. I'm going to sell my BMPCC because I know I'll be tortured knowing it's here. If I was making films, there is NO WAY I would do this. The BMPCC is an extraordinary camera. It is truly a "cinema" camera.
What surprised me about the GM1 is how small it is. It makes the BMPCC look big. That gave me a laugh. The physical dial is very delicate (con). The smartphone app is what I've always wanted (plus). The image is much better than the GF3. I wish I had the GX7, but I saw a GM1 body used, for cheap, so that's what I got. Still, the image from it is nothing sort of phenomenal. IMHO it blows the d600 video out of the water. I'm surprised they got a MFT sensor to do as well as it does in low light.
So, tail between my legs, I go back to H.264 land. Thanks Andrew ;)
Top Reasons I'm switching
1. Copy, grading is very time consuming. My hard-drives over-floweth.
2. As soon as I start shooting I worry about running out of card space, battery, etc.
3. The screen is not good enough to make me confident I have focus
4. If I run up against moire I may have to degrade the image to h.264 type quality
5. Davinci Resolve has been buggy lately. I question BM's support of camera. Took them days to respond to support request.
6. 3x crop factor is a killer because I like wide lenses
7. Center button brings up slate if not clicked double for focus zoom, annoying. Audio is not good. Little quibbles everyone writes about.
Again, I love this camera. It's just too much for me.
BTW, the "silent shutter" feature of the camera is something I would now struggle to give up if I changed my mind.

Jacek got a reaction from Orangenz in Panasonic GH4 to ship in Europe from 5th May
Panasonic representative [Panasonic Marketing Europe, Department in Poland] also told me, that GH4 should be available from beginning of May - in Poland.
So it looks like GH4 global availability is planned for around beginning of May.

Jacek got a reaction from William Koehler in 8 Cinema DNG shots from Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera raw
The first poster (20s of wall) said it was 980MB for 20s.
So it looks like:
49 MB/s
= 22 min 17 sec for 64GB card.

Jacek reacted to Andrew Reid in F0.74 - new Metabones Speed Boosters break boundaries
Today Metabones release two new Speed Boosters for Blackmagic shooters.
I've been using some demo samples for this special review and I'm absolutely stunned.
Metabones and Caldwell Optics have given us a Zeiss / Kubrick / NASA special! These adapters are completely new and purpose designed to fit only the Blackmagic cameras. Offering super bright apertures as fast as F0.74 and finally some great wide angle possibilities, I put both new adapters through their paces...

Disclosure: I have worked closely with SLR Magic in refining the flare and have a close relationship with SLR Magic, but I am approaching the lens objectively in my articles.
It's here! The finished lens.

Jacek got a reaction from Julian in Metabones Speed Booster for Micro Four Thirds - Review
Voigtlander Noktons are not very small..
What about SB + new dslr lenses (the smaller one, for APS-C not FF)? Not sure, but looks like cheaper alternative:
Sigma 30mm/1.4 --> 21mm/1.0
any 50mm/1.4 --> 36mm/1.0
Samyang 16mm/2 --> 11mm/1.4 (big, but fast wide)
It's cheaper than Noktons and with 2 adapters (SB and regular) you get 6 focal lengths with 3 primes.
For example:
Nokton 17.5mm(1150$) + 25mm(1000$) = 2150$
= 17.5mm/0.95 + 25mm/0.95
Example above set:
SB(430$) + Sigma 30mm(500$) + Nikon 50mm(400$) + Samyang 16mm(480$) = 1810$
[+ regular adapter] = 11mm/1.4 + 16mm/2 + 21mm/1.0 + 30mm/1.4 + 36mm/1.0 + 50mm/1.4

Jacek reacted to Andrew Reid in Metabones Nikon to Micro 43 Speed Booster
I have the Nikon > Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster now and have been testing it for a few days, so check back for a review next week. Lovely with the Samyang 85mm F1.4 on the GH3. The adapter also has a built in aperture control ring for Nikon G lenses which works very well, though would be nice to see a declicked version.

Jacek got a reaction from peederj in BMPCC Preorder
I agree in this regard. We don't know much about bmpcc yet and should judge it's quality after release and first tests - so yes, preordering is little risky.
But I think it has big potential and hope it's gonna succeed.

So you convinced yourself bmpcc is not for you ;).
You can now relax.

Jacek reacted to Jon de Zwaan in The EOSHD 5D Mark III Raw Shooter's Guide - available now!
Andrew, please excuse my curiosity, but why did you delete the previous post which contained some criticism? If he was talking nonsense, you could have easily responded with some facts. Now it feels like he did have a point and you acted like the Russian dictator on that other forum.
Not that I doubt your integrity or honesty and I haven't bought the book, but if it contains a lot of research done by the Magic Lantern team, maybe you could consider donating a small part of the profit to them.
Nonetheless thanks for making our lifes easy with your website and books!

Jacek reacted to Julian in Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 - Razorsharp and it looks like it's parfocal too!
I had the pleasure of testing the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art (on a Canon 100D...).
Focussed on photography, but the results are amazing. Even at f/1.8 it is really sharp, I'm sure it will even beat many primes. It's pretty crazy actually!

This will be killer on Blackmagic EF-mount camera's (if it will work?), Canon aps-c with raw... MFT with speed booster, if a electronic EOS version ever arrives...
Pricing of the 18-35mm is TBA...
