Brian (designer of the Metabones Speed Booster optics for those who don't realise) is 100% right And I see it with my own eyes when I use the latest Speed Boosters, especially the XL-T on Micro Four Thirds. I will likely be selling most of my native Micro Four Thirds lenses soon, unless the manufacturers wake up!

Not with H.265 PS - if Panasonic froze sensor R&D since 2011 that would explain why Sony made the GH3 sensor, but who made the GH4 sensor and what about the new Varicam S35?!

Axel with LOG footage the grade has much more impact on colour than the camera does. Most grades are weird looking and prioritise dynamic range. It takes real artistic skill to do a good one. So judge the grade not the camera. The skin bug is interesting... does it only affect HDMI?

By 2018 computing power will be so fast and cheap that NLEs will cut through 8K H.265 like butter and the file sizes will be as small as 4K is now, thanks to H.265 but storage space will have probably tripped for the same price. Indeed it is about what's creatively useful though, not just outright image quality. I would prefer 240fps 4K and better low light performance than noisier 30fps 8K, although downscaling to 1080p or 4K would reduce noise, as we see with the current 8K camera, the A7R II's 42MP stills!! Also I believe the gains coming from organic CMOS sensors in dynamic range will probably eclipse the excitement for resolution in the coming years. So I hope Panasonic's R&D money can focus on more than just 8K.

Panasonic froze image sensor research and development in 2011 and have only now resumed. The company has committed $80m to revitalise their image sensors business in light of growing revenue from their imaging business as a whole and hot demand for sensors. Went and got the E-M5 II with version 1.0 firmware instead, will try shooting a test scene in V1 then upgrade to V2 and see what the difference is.

I started with Muted, and ramped up the contrast & saturation, then shifted the white balance colour hue away from green.

I would love that D7300, Ebrahim. Flat picture profile & codec are very nice on the Nikon cameras. One observation... Did anyone notice the excitement go up a notch with the mention of the word "Nikon"? It just goes to show the power of branding and gives you a clue as to why Samsung sold so few NX1s. That spec of D7300 would break the internet. People would sell the mum for one. In fact it already exists with the NX1 and you don't have to put up with a flappy mirror in the way, only the Samsung logo tarnishing it.

The spread of strengths across the camera industry is driving me a bit nuts. Only Blackmagic do cheap affordable int. 10bit ProRes. Only Olympus do effective stabilisation. Only Panasonic do cheap 4K in Micro Four Thirds cam Only Fuji do a film-inspired shooting experience (although Olympus run them close) Only Sony max out the specs and do a full frame mirrorless camera Only Samsung do a really responsive fast ergonomic DSLR-style mirrorless camera Only Canon... I mean only Magic Lantern do raw video. The A7S II is closest to the perfect camera but the handling is just...so soulless. Currently I am thinking of keeping hold of the E-M5 II as a stills camera, second to the NX1 and A7S II as my main video cameras.

What are you a banker? Why the hell are you investing in lenses? Just shoot!!!!

We are not talking about the entire history of all Samsung CMOS technology since 2002 though. We are talking about their 2014 APS-C sensor and the advances made for that... Samsung got a poor return on that investment from just the NX1 and NX500 due to the lack of sales.

If Samsung in the contract had to pull their NX system from the market entirely, I'd bet on it going further than just a tech supply chain of sensors and processors for Nikon, like Nikon currently have with Sony. I think Nikon will do a mirrorless camera like the NX1, but with different mount and lenses. Nikon F mount on mirrorless camera wouldn't be too bad... Imagine a D750 with 4K and EVF...

This one stacks up. Can think of at least 5 ways it makes perfect sense. Only question mark is what sensor size and lens mount they will have on it. Easiest would be to keep NX mount and rebrand the S lenses, plus build fully functional electronic Nikon F mount adapter for it. This would be similar to their approach with the 1 series mirrorless cameras. They could put a native Nikon F mount on it like their DSLRs but size advantage of mirrorless would be lost. Then again the NX1 was never a 'small' mirrorless camera, it was much more in the mould of a 7D Mark II.

I am really pleased at this! Premiere now cuts through H.265 like butter. I get full res 4K playback smoothly just like with H.264 Only occasional lag when scrubbing crazily through a timeline Not tried adding effects yet though... might slow down with that, but so far seems to work just like GH4 footage. Zero quality difference to my converted ProRes. NX1 just got a whole lot more attractive.

Well get a 7D then. Even cheaper. And crop will help telephoto reach for sports. Problem solved.

Instead of spending so much more on Sony's lenses, it might be an idea to keep a little pet 5D Mark II body for AF with Canon glass, and let your A7R II do all the video and manual focus stuff (+ low light). They are cheap used now... under 800 quid!

Have you not heard of the Metabones adapter for you Canon lenses? Yes AF and lenses are one area for Sony to work further on. And yes the FE lenses are too costly. Agree with you there! I am using mostly Canon glass and manual focus rather than AF. With Canon lenses on A7 bodies, AF can sometimes be very fast especially on the A7R II but the hit rate is poor compared to the FE lenses. The Zeiss ZA lenses via EA-LA4 adapter solve this but then another big expensive investment. For stills compare the handling of the Olympus E-M5 II or Fujifilm X-T1 to the Sony bodies and you will see where they have got it badly wrong
