Panasonic GH5S 4K / 240fps low light monster
Andrew - EOSHD replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
Yes couldn't really comment on the rumours after signing an NDA - but most of all didn't want to drive traffic to the scumbags at 43rumors The leaks this time were ridiculous. Needs to stop! What is the point of having a nice surprise and big in-depth article when you already know everything from some shitty clickbait place that dribbles stuff out over months? -
Just last month I went to visit Panasonic UK for a hands-on with the new Panasonic GH5S. My full review is in the pipeline but first an introduction to the new camera on the block... The GH5S has a newly developed 10.2MP sensor for enhanced low light performance, as well as 240fps 1080p S&Q. Furthermore for the first time since the GH2 this sensor is an over-sized 1.86x crop multi-aspect sensor. Possible for the first time is 60p at Cinema 4K resolution (4096 x 2160), whereas the GH5 is just Ultra HD 60p. The field-of-view will be slightly wider in Cinema 4K on the GH5S compared to the GH5 due to the larger sensor. The new CMOS also brings colour improvements with a new 14bit readout and less noise. Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down
Andrew - EOSHD replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
JIm, you get it. And that others on this thread are comparing Logan Paul to Shakespeare, just proves your point -
There's always going to be an enormous amount of junk out there and there's no point censoring it. I think some people think this is what I was getting at in the article... nope. Leave the junk out there. But take some responsibility for it. Give kids some other way of venting, letting off stream and entertaining themselves. Stop promoting it on trending lists and YouTube home page. Stop cross-linking to it from other videos. Have some editorial direction as YouTube. Don't promote it, don't give it a platform for it to thrive on... and above all, hope the next generation are smart enough to not watch it. This one's fucked. Too late for them. This is their culture now, they own it and are doomed to repeat it... the culture of vanity, insensitivity, selfishness and above all MONEY and LOOKS.

The casual acceptance that there's so much shit out there is part of the problem, part of the western mentality that I find so submissive. I think people are resigned to live out their lives surrounded by junk videos, junk food, junk advertising and bring their kids up on all the same junk too. The 4 big quality online camera blogs remaining in the UK are... Me! Red Shark News http://www.redsharknews.com James Miller and Philip Bloom's content I can't even remember the 4th big one but they're out there Plus there are of course good guys putting helpful stuff out there like like Harv's stuff on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8YXmNHJ-JS0dd7z4Z9ChXA And Daniel Peters https://twitter.com/danielpetersdop But when I was recently invited to Panasonic, they said there was a shortage of people to invite. Dan Chung has sold up at newsshooter now as well...and gone to work for Atomos. The internet it just so full of tat, it's unreal.

Wow so much anger Joachim! If only you were as angry about "everything feeds us shit and always has"... or "money makes the world go round"... Because normal human response to this is to be angry and try and change things. Maybe you are not human? A Russian troll perhaps?! Anyway it sounds like your opinion there is pretty similar to what I said in the article if you think YouTube is feeding us shit and always has. By the way... It's not a "trivial rant". The only thing trivial here is your response. A resigned *sigh* rather than a call for quality content. This is a very simple problem to fix. YouTube takes editorial responsibility, ditches the algorithm driven trending home page and ranking system, actively promotes good quality stuff so that people sees it, starts investing in content like all other TV networks do. YouTube is not just a platform for hosting videos, it is a mass media channel. Time they took responsibility. And if you don't understand that Joachim or what's at stake... why the fuck are you a filmmaker? You may as well not be.

(This opinion-post contains strong language) YouTube and Logan Paul share the same ethical standards: that is to say: none. Read the full article

One thing I like about the X Pro 2 is you can just stay in stills mode, press a record button to reel off video, without having to switch to a fiddly movie mode on a fiddly dial. The X-T2's mode dial is a nightmare and quite unnecessary.
-
How's the AF in video mode on the A7R III? Will be trying it out in January.
-
Yes it's the latest version. I have not needed to update it since the original release!

If you're using the OVF, it shuts off when you hit record and turns to an EVF. If you take your eye away and use the back LCD, then hit record and look through the OVF, the back screen stays on and you see through the OVF but all the framing lines and info are gone. A lost opportunity there Fuji

Click to expand the 100% crops X-Pro 2 4K: X-T20 4K: As you can see the X-Pro 2 4K has far more detail in the shadows, more dynamic range and a crisper, sharper image. The film simulation modes are so nice on their default settings you don't need to fiddle... Which is just as well because unlike the X-T2, the parameters don't make a difference, even sharpness. Regardless I would put this image quality in the top bunch of all the 4K mirrorless cameras... It's bloody lovely. And the form factor is Fuji's best... More like a Leica than a fiddly X-T2 The drawbacks are rolling shutter and lack of articulated screen. There's also a slight screen blank-out when the recording kicks in (only half a second). The screen quality is crisper and nicer in general than the X-T20, both in live-view and during recording 4K. Yes there is a 10 min clip length limit, but right tool for right job and all that... If you look at the price of the X-Pro 2, put a Speed Booster on there to make it full frame, you are getting basically a mini A7S II with the colour and ergonomics fixed , for half the price! That is unless you need IBIS and S-LOG of course. It has some of the best dynamic range and colour in a punchy Rec.709 format I've ever seen, thrashes the Sonys. You have to shoot LOG on most other cameras to get the dynamic range the X-Pro 2 4K will give you straight off the card in PRO Neg. Std. film mode. It's a really good codec, with a fine noise grain. I am getting steadily over the 100Mbit/s mark even on a shot that shouldn't really need it. It's variable bit rate. I saw it peak at 180Mbit/s. Impressive. And it's really good in low light too.
-
There is a PDF, with instructions. Read that and dial the settings into the camera Picture Profile menus.
-
Just tried it out for the first time It's fucking good. Looks more like A6500 than X-T2 No crop either. Super fine noise grain.

The internet architecture at the moment as intended by the universities and scientists who created it. There's a lot of commercial interests to change that, so there's a lot of propaganda and mis-information on the internet and on TV, with funding links back to the commercial and anti-net neutrality government interests. The Trump government will say to you that they're liberating the internet from their control but it's the opposite. They are allowing creator control over the user. There's more money in it for them, otherwise they wouldn't bother. They are going to get that money from you, by bundling the sites you use into a higher priced premium tarrif. It also allows them to censor sources of information the Government doesn't like or rival services. Just like they do in China. A network service provider could for instance prioritise their own rival to EOSHD over me. Or even their own version of YouTube. The customer, you could then say, would leave... It's a free market, blah blah blah. Well, if every single service provider is doing the same shit, it's not a free market. What we have now is a free market for content creators like me, to provide you with a site at the same speed and price as everyone else, included in your standard internet or cable pricing. It's a truly level playing field, so don't let big business and government lie to you and manipulate the truth. Especially not a Trump government. That's right, a new tax with the user paying more and usually what starts in the US has a habit of ending up in other countries as well. The other problem is it is in danger of creating a really segmented internet where you can only ever enjoy one part of it at any one time. People can't constantly swap and change service providers, they will be in 24 month contracts before long anyway. If you only have one connection available in your area and it is with a company that is anti-Netflix, would one be happy with their shitty rival version and no alternative? How is that a free market?!
-
WTF A pro-net neutrality government is not interfering with the free market. They would actually be protecting it. The internet is the ultimate free-market. Do you want to pay a middle-man like Verizon to access certain parts of it? Do you want the network providers to bundle everything and sell it at you - free stuff as well, including this forum? Do you want a situation like subscription network TV where there's barely any involvement from small content producers like me, and the barrier to entry being astronomically expensive? Do you want subscription-based internet, or a flat fee for the entire thing, all at the same speed? Who says the government would be making any deals at all under net neutrality laws?! They don't have any involvement whatsoever beyond enforcing the basic fundamental principals of a fully operational internet, which are needed simply for it to work properly.

iPhone X camera review - 4K 60P on a telephone

Nope. Faster lens on the telephoto camera for a start. -
Apple have pulled one out of the bag here. A neural network powered image processor and dual-4K image sensors, on something that isn't a proper camera. Read the article

Loving that one!!
-
So they added F-LOG and IBIS to an X-T2 basically (if the rumours are to be believed) I think I'm looking forward to the GH5S a lot more. Also rumours Canon will get in the game with a GH5 competitor... XC10 sales better than expected, EF mount version, blah blah blah. GH4 and Samsung NX1 were 2014/15 cameras, so Canon and Fuji have a lot of catching up to do.

Viewing distances are an anti-aliasing filter. 4K -> 1080p is also an AA filter. Display format as well. Not to make excuses for a camera's technical shortcoming but it helps to get it into perspective. Real world is everything.

Panasonic seems to be announcing something "BIG" on December 15
Andrew - EOSHD replied to seku's topic in Cameras
Ironic indeed, but I don't see this making much sense as they have the G9 line for stills.
