Julian
A 18-35mm zoom (for aps-c-sensors) with a constant aperture of f/1.8? Sounds unlikely, Sigma just did it! http://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/product/art/a_18_35_18/features.html This will be sweet on a Nikon D5200/D7200 (or Canon aps-c-camera, if you insist :)) en the MFT Speed Booster arrives, it will be awesome on the GH3 and pretty cool on the BMPCC aswell... With the recent 35mm f/1.4 Art and 30mm f/1.4 DC Art Sigma showed great performance. Hope this 18-35mm f/1.8 lives up to it. Price? No idea. Not cheap... but the excellent Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is relatively cheap compared to the competition. I think €1000 would be a pretty good price for this zoom. Could be a bit more... Julian
http://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/product/art/a_18_35_18/images/specifications/construction_thumb.gif This is the lens construction. I wonder if they achieved this with some kind of 'Speed Booster' alike lens elements. The last bit could be the focal reducer? In comparison the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/sites/default/files/571-lens-construction.gif
jgharding
I guess a focal reducer is involved, it's in some of the fast micro four thirds zooms.
richg101
focal reducer or not, thats an amazing achievement. id have been excited by a 18-35 f2.8, let alone one with a inbuilt focal reducer and designed for aps-c. this on m4/3 + metabones speed booster may not cover sensor, but on the BMpocket and speed booster this is gonna be deadly if it doesnt mind the speed booster. Jacek
It will most probably cover the m4/3 sensor with SpeedBooster: http://philipbloom.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Speed-Booster-FX-DX.jpg and 18-35 f1.8 will act as 13-25 f1.
