Its arrived. Three days for delivery, That has to be some kind of record. Im excited... Although i have a couple of things to do before it gets dark, so i'll free it from its bland carboard boxing a little latter. Fair size box, hopefully it comes out a little lighter, after i get it out of the box.

I found time to go for a walk down along the river today, here's a few images from the m1 iii and the takumar smc 17mm fisheye. I did notice some interesting flares, so next time i hope to have the gimbal and do some simple moves with it. Pretty happy with the character of the 17mm fisheye, i figure with the crop from mft its toned down alot but i am liking it. Its autumn over here so there's abit of a red theme happening. I did massage the reds, the saturation and contrast very gently in post. I also experimented with a sharpening technique i saw in a simon booth youtube which appealed to me, its not a one click process however it can all be done in 5 minutes which is fine by me, however if your getting paid by the hour it might be a different story. I read the comments on the anamorphic letterboxing and it makes sense, no idea why my brain wasn't connecting the dots earlier, but thanks for the help.

I pulled the pin on a Zhiyun-Tech Crane 2S 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabiliser - COMBO. its an older model by now and there is two newer models i think. The e-m1 iii comes in at 580 gr without lens. The sirui anamorphic is listed a 1 kilogram, both together, should be well within weight considerations. The sirui would probably be the heaviest lens i have. Even with an ef to mft adapter and vintage lenses, i think i'm fairly safe. I got the combo deal as i hope the added arm and rest makes a difference and it was only a $100 dearer although some stores it was $150-200 dearer. I have watched a lot of youtube reviews in an attempt to make an informed decision. I will say, i take a grain of salt with whatever is said on youtube. i'm cynical enough to think there is some bias towards the selling side of things especially with any youtube that has affiliate links involved. I have also noticed when ever a reviewer has two gimbals on display they seem to place them on the dodgiest of tables, as soon as the table is touched or a gimbal moved the whole tables moves. Not exactly confidence inspiring from a visual standpoint. I'm a bit surprised more hasn't been said in this forum about the various gimbals. Maybe that in itself could be taken as a sign... Anyway moving right along... I liked the fact the crane 2s takes the 18650 batteries. I'm not a fan of proprietary battery packs, they tend to cost you more, like anything that's "special". The later crane models seemed to have gone to battery packs and dji and the ronins are the same from what i have seen. The crane 2 motors seem quite large, nearly the same size or slightly smaller as the later crane models and some reviewers have made that comparison as well. Which i tend to think, bodes well for the crane 2s. Also the later crane models are heavier as well and while they will carry heavier loads, i'm not that interested in lugging a heavier load at this time. Some youtubers notice micro jitters with the crane, not all the time, just at some angles, not sure if thats an ongoing problem with balancing or the motors set to the wrong strength or hardware update perhaps, most ppl seem to get it sorted or they don't make too much of an issue about it during the video. i have watched enough vids that i think i'm happy enough with the output i'm likely to get and I'm kinda hoping that most of these reviews are 4 years old and the issues have been sorted. Which also means we about due a new range of gimbals... Probably. There does seem to be a lack of long term reviews and if you can find an answered question about what they still use, most of the time its they have moved on to something different. Actually i'm finding the whole youtube review thing a bit shallow, if i'm honest. You get 10 minutes of some guy yapping on, in front of a camera with basically a bunch of different pan and tilt product shots and maybe 90 seconds of actual gimbal footage. Some youtubes have a better balance. Well see what happens after it turns up.

I'm all for smarter addons like magic mask or smarter tools, but if it starts telling me how to make something better, no thanks. Not sure you'll see much discussion on it. I'm guessing it will decided for our own good what we are allowed do with it. Its in its infancy at the moment, give it some time. From a male third person perspective, not literally i assure you.. i'd expect there to be lots of her husband in her. I presume if english isnt your primary language then chagpt could be beneficial. However is it you ? is it authentic ?

Another question for those who know more than me.. If i make an anamorphic video, is there a way to add text to the black portions at the top or bottom of an anamorphic video when creating a video. It seems to me thats a bit of wasted space and I'm interested in doing something creative within that space. I can reimport the video quite easily and add the text. However i wonder about the quality drop when re rendering. From what i understand i don't think it can be done when the video is created. There's a chance i'm wrong however so i thought i'd ask the question.

back-bones system. I looked at them too but for the price and the fact that you go from super wide to telephoto. From what i could find there didn't seem to be much in the middle. There's a good chance my understanding could be wrong seeing as the gopro was a first for me at the time. Which put me off, and you had to send a camera in or buy one.

kind of the opposite here. People are happy enough to wave a phone camera around. I'm more likely to see a camera on a public holiday or long weekend. Last easter i saw one of those harness rigs with a camera hanging of the front of it at local drag strip. The most action we see is the various car club and bike clubs coming out for the weekend. That's when your more likely to see cameras, when the tourists are in town. No idea where that poll i started went too, maybe the eithernet🙄 On the e-m1 front, i'm messing around with a painters pole as a substitute monopod at the moment. As i move away from from hand held, i figure the painters pole will at least stop the up / down side of things. Considering adding a strap to limit forward / side to side movement but i'll see how it goes first. Being a painters pole it extends to 8 feet or so and doesn't seem to have much flex in it. This thing is pretty rigid. There's a couple of camera "tube" claps at the top. The bolts look offset and they are, By a stroke of good luck the plate center ends up being center of the pole which should help with the balance. There's a simple L shaped cheese plate at the top. I can get the e-m1 rigged up to it however i doubt it will the the same mount thats on the tripod. I can look into making them the same, after i play with it for a bit. I also bought a prop, I have a couple of ideas to try. Its been pretty light on fuel ... the cap was on so tight and the pair of pliers i have were to small to fit around the cap. I had to buy a pair of multigrips to loosen it. I have some more thoughts on the em-1 in the "studio" as i have spent more time with it, however i need to go pump water for the garden and the chooks before it gets dark. Otherwise have a good weekend.

Might be a bit embarrassing if everybody starts running amok with action camera footage... Lots of youtubes out there done with action cameras. Still i think that there are many possibilities that can lead to making more informed content available and should they outgrow it, their already at the right place to ask questions.

I love a good Jason bourne movie, however for my own personal use i prefer the footage be "smoother" less jarring. My fitness level sucks, if i have to run and gun i'm likely to have a heart attack. lol Never thought about a shoulder rig, for me i thought, tripod, gimbal, handheld. Personally i'm moving away from handheld. I have occasionally seen shoulder rigs at car shows or large special events. Last easter i saw one of those harness systems with the camera hanging of the front of it at a local weekend race day. Which was kinda interesting, like hey thats something you don't see everyday interesting. Otherwise shoulder rigs scream TV to me. But if it works for you that's great. On the lens side of perfection, i have a collection of vintage lenses that give me all the desirable imperfections i can want. The thing is, since i'm on mft i think i kinda lose half of that character with the crop factor anyway.

I'm about 15000 kilometers away from "ground zero". Kinda glad i'm not an american right now and i feel for you americans i really do. The basic premise of getting a businessman in to run the country sounds reasonable.. But it only works if your business man has some scruples, standards or a code of conduct. Pretty sure, none of that applies to trump. If he's dumb, what does that say about half of America, or however many you need to win an election over there? He's many things, but i doubt dumb is one of them. His speeches aren't particularly eloquent or articulated, but don't make the mistake of interpreting that as dumb. Was it the X files that used to have that, underlying we want to believe Psychology ? I think trump grabbed onto that with his, make america great again marketing scheme and hit a home run it. The scary part is after his first effort, when his term ends this time he won't go quietly. Thats if he isn't already trying to setup some sort of dynasty thing... A number of years ago, clive palmer (our version of trump) got himself elected after the queensland goverment imposed new taxes on mining. The first thing he did while elected was reverse the new mining taxes. We recently had our own elections over here and to every one's surprise we had Clive Palmers "Trumpet of Patriots" party as an option. Thankfully it didn't get enough support. Otherwise it would have been devastating for this country. My point being everybody with half a brain is going to latch to this strategy. Which probably means every country is going to face more "entitled people" yelling vote for me...

I started a poll on which tripod, gimbal, hand held system people are using. i couldn't seem to add one to the thread. Curious as what system people are using in 2025. You may also comment on your choices here, if you'd like to offer an opinion on why. Been looking at a new video head and tripod. However i wonder if perhaps a gimbal might be advantageous. Pretty confident hand held is out for me as i have to stabilize everything in resolve and it seem like an extra step that could be avoided, at a higher cost initially, i guess. Resolve seems to do a pretty good job at stabilizing footage from what i have experimented with, but i think if i can fix it before i import it, i'm well in front and as good as resolve is i am wondering what i am losing in the process. In some ways the less i have to do the more " authentic " i feel the footage is. With the advancement of AI i would like to do as little as possible with it. I understand that alot of programs will have it built in and there's probably not much that can be done about that. I'm also thinking in some ways AI is just a buzz word with a truckload more programming built in. I presume program file sizes are about to grow exponentially to accommodate that. Which in turn will require bigger, faster computers, which hardware manufactures will be only to happy to supply... Thats the cynical side of me creeping out again.. I'm certainly no cinematographer, and whatever standards i have, are low, low enough to walk over without tripping🤔Still i think its important to draw a line in the the sand and say. Watched a few more youtubes, i think i have a better appreciation on anamorphics now. One of the trees in the park in town colouring up for autumn. At first when sirui brought out an anamorphic i thought the flares were too much. I guess its been a couple of years since then, perhaps by the time i decided to get one they changed something inside as i quite like the amount flare i'm getting at the moment. I haven't tried every possibility So there's a chance i may yet encounter some " bolder " flares. Maybe car headlights on dusk will do it, something to try later. A still, 4k 30p with 2.39 (DCI Scope) 3840 x 1608 A short clip, not log. I did play with the colours a little, but i dont think i pushed very hard as i still don't know much. Also the k&f m42 adapter arrived yesterday. I have the takumar 17mm on it. Seems like there is no discernable movement. i may get outside after lunch and get a few photos and video.

After visiting the waterfalls, i realized there was some wisdom in having the olympus camera strap attached to the camera... I also came to the conclusion in using the takumar lenses the other day that my old cheap m42 adapter into ef adapter which then plugged into a viltrox mft focal reducer has an issue in use. The viltrox mounts to the e-m1 ok with no discernable play however the ef adapter does have some play. the m42 screw mount part has no play however when i insert the ef into the viltrox there is some play. Enough play that the focus peaking just disappears with any up or down movement of the lens. So a k&f m42 straight to mft adapter has been sourced. It wasn't the cheapest or the dearest adapter, hopefully it has better tolerances. I presume that maybe in part, why i am having issues with manual focusing. The other 90% is more practice, i guess. Not knowing any better, i like the look from the viltrox focal reducer. Moving forward i'm not sure if there's a metabones adapter in my future or not, I'm also considering buying some brass shimming material and tightening up the tolerances that way. I can get 4 different thicknesses of brass for $10 which is alot cheaper than a metabones adapter, so i may try that first. I have spent the day reorganizing my desktop as a couple of speaker stands that have c clamps attached at the bottom have arrived. I don't actually have any speakers to sit on them, but i do have some midi controllers and effects units sitting on them and it frees up some desktop real estate. They also stop stuff from rolling off the edge of the table Which is advantageous. They sit a little bit high but that's ok for now, i'd like to think about it some more before i do anything drastic with a hacksaw. A tether pro 3 meter usb c to usb c cable has also been installed under the desktop and runs along and out to the front to connect to the e-m1 for product photography and i hate climbing under the desktop as i always bang my head on the wire cage that runs the length of the table that's under there to contain the cabling. I have got the em-1 successfully tethered to the computer, however it's getting close to 2 in the morning so i'm calling it a night.

I see your contax 85mm 1.4 and raise you a super takumar 85mm 1.9 Very windy day here. No good for videography, i did get few nice images with the takumar however i struggle a bit with the focus peaking and it wasn't much fun, with the wind about. So i swapped to a 60mm oly lens as i wanted a comparison of how both lenses did sunstars. The next few images are the oly 60mm macro lens. I massaged the exposure to suit my preferences, however the colours are sooc

I think that last set is nicer, although i can't tell you why. i know its night and i expect it darker. I'm not entirely sure that its being down to night is the only reason they are nicer. You've done something different in your approach to grading or the initial video i think.

I suspect the gap between the free version and paid studio version of resolve will grow wider, with the studio version getting all the good stuff. Honestly i'm surprised its taken this long for them to get around to charging for it. I'm also glad its taken this long 😀 I downloaded ver 20 last night, its still free, maybe the last "free" version. The whole "We'll probably eventually charge some kind of upgrade for this." is just a way of softening the blow. its already been decided, its just the when may still be up in the air. Personally i feel paying a subscription is a like cutting an artery and watching the life leak out. I can live with a modest upgrade fee if i feel like i need to upgrade for the features, however if bm go subscription, I'll stick with whatever is the last free version or move to something else. I'm also thinking if and when they do start charging for it, they might have to do something special to entice us. At least for the first upgrade anyway. Maybe that is where the magic part comes in. If they do manage to make it something magical i'd probably look at buying one of the controllers That comes with a studio licence key. Assuming that it comes with the upgraded studio version.

I'm a bit lost, pardon my lack of business sense. When you talk about selling one unit is that a camera body or body and lens or more ? because later you talk about selling 3x lumix and 5 lenses later. I presume you have 2 different scenarios in mind ? As a person who recently just recently bought one second hand camera, my mind boggles at someone contemplating selling three to buy 2 more. However this video and photography is only a hobby for me. So i bow to your superior experience. Obviously, you would not be considering it, if there wasn't a strong argument for doing that. By the way are any of those lenses m43 mount ? asking for a friend 😎

I hadn't considered that.. if it comes in clear your could do the lens as well. Bonus points for the all in one glow / blemish remover filter. Wedding photos will no doubt sell like hotcakes !!

Thanks for chiming in. I'll probably grab one in the next two weeks. Got some video and a Bunch of photos today, so i watched some youtube tutorials on resolve and made a slideshow. I used the e-m1 iii with the 24mm sirui anamorphic. Not entirely convinced i did the carpet snake justice with the focus peaking but i reckon i got better as i progressed through the day. There's probably a million things i done wrong. i did watch a youtube on desqueezing and i'm not convinced that going though the clip attributes and changing the ratio from square to anamorphic is the best way to desqueeze footage, something seems a little off to me. I didn't use log just the standard video setting. i didnt do much to the colour apart from clicking on the @ symbol in the colour page. If you have 2.30 or so to waste...

Question for the members. I'm looking at a Sachtler S2170-0001 Ace XL MK II Fluid Head. I know i know, i said no more buying in another thread. However my tripod and its head is proving to be better at photography and less good for panning and tilting in video. Reading some threads on here, Sachtler seem to be the bees knees and pretty much the same thing is said on youtube. Anyone one using the Ace XL MK II Fluid Head ? Kinda looking for some in house confirmation before i do anything rash... I can get the head at a reasonable price at the moment. How long that lasts is anyone's guess. It should fit my tripod which I'd like to continue using until i can save for a better tripod. Thats my thinking anyway. Visiting some waterfalls tomorrow, so that will be interesting.

Same problem over here local growers, can not get locals to harvest vegetables. Its all done by back packers and islanders now. In less than ten years. Its gone from contractors, and two crews of casual pickers. Which consisted of few locals and the grey nomads who were either heading north for the winter or south depending on the season. Local contractors who were paid by the box and had usually picked 70 pallets of produce and could go home by lunchtime while the casuals kept picking till 3ish to pick the same amount. Carrots are machine harvested and fed straight into semi trailers and carted away you might see 3 people all day. Other vegies like lettuce, cabbage, leeks in winter still done by hand which requires a tractor driver, forklift driver and 5 people cutting and 2 or 3 packers. Theres still jobs in town, their easy to fill. With air conditioned offices, desk chairs, but try filling a position that has manual labor involved and outside, its a different story. Theres some sort of arrangement that if backpackers do 90 days of work in an agricultural area, then the government adds 90 days to your visa. Which probably works out great at the end they can go do all the touristy things they want to do like visit ayers rock and the great barrier reef while the government get it all back in fees, permits and fuel excises. Still good on them for living the dream. my brother recently bought the block next door, when it came up for sale. So he could be closer to his b̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r parents. i suspect he's in for a surprise when payday comes as he's used to getting a builder's wages in the city. Years ago i grew 4 little piglets into bigger piglets. Those 4 little piggies did not go off to market.. i could buy a 400 kilo pallet of 2nd hand apples for $50 which made for cheap feed, however if you only fed them grain or pellets there is simply no profit in it. I also know for a fact, pigs will eat anything, literally anything.. which is why i'm not interested in buying either Chinese pig meet or US pig meat and i'm happy neither does the rest of australia even if trump does want to have a good cry about it lol

I suspect i got caught up in some of that " instability " last week when the aus dollar did a pretty good impression of that last ship scene from the titanic... I had decided to purchase the reaper software that allows one to make music on a computer. I had been evaluating it for 360 days +. I just picked a bad day to buy it lol. US $66 went to $113 Australian, that's a nasty unexpected jolt to the system. It also makes me question further purchases when the US $ becomes involved. I haven't bought anything out of the US for the last few years as postage from the US is just astronomical and i have happy enough to source items from japan mostly. From now on, i personally will be thinking quite hard about any further purchases from abroad and that's lose / lose situation for everyone, i guess. On the upside i did find two smc takumars in an old camera bag up in the shed today. Which did brighten up my day a little.
