  1. When you're out on vacation in Egypt, making your own Brandon Li-esque travel video. You pay the extra $50 to go inside the Great Pyramid. Then right before you go in, the security guy says, "I'll take that." and puts your GH5 on the shelf until you get back out. Then you'll be reaching for the ol' iPhone Source: Happened. But it was a GF-1 and an iPod touch. And, if I'm being totally honest, I wasn't even making a video.
  2. I'd be curious to know if it overheats. Film Riot recently posted a video about the short they made using an iPhone and said they had issues with the phone frequently overheating. Depending on how taxing this is on the phone's processor, it could be an issue. Especially when recording to the device. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJhsg9KhGKQ
  3. Yeah, he said he made the switch until something better comes along. That being said, he is also using a Sony RX100v, which was what he was using on the way back from the bridge when he fell and broke his finger. But I think it was the GH5 on the bridge when it locked on the background.
  4. There have been a bunch of people in the Facebook user group that have reported problems with Lexar cards in the GH5. It's obviously not definitive proof that's the problem, but it might be worth trying another brand. That group is really active and worth joining if you haven't already.
  5. In video mode. Edit - In case anyone was wondering, I called Panasonic, and my options were to either exchange the whole kit at the store where I bought it, or keep it and send the lens to Panasonic's repair facility for Canada under warranty. The store where I bought it no longer has any stock and can't guarantee when they will get the next shipment, so I called the repair place to see how long the lens repair would take. They told me 4-6 weeks. So I'm just going to return the whole kit to the store. Hopefully, I'll get the new one sooner than that.
  6. My GH5 kit arrived today. Unfortunately, the lens appears to be a dud. The aperture dial on the camera shows the F stop changing on screen, but the aperture blades in the lens don't do anything. Maybe they're just stuck? Every other aspect of the lens is working correctly (autofocus, dual IS). Other lenses are working fine. Anybody know if there's anything I can do, or is it probably going to have to be returned? Panasonic customer service is currently closed, so I can't ask them.

The Panasonic Leica 8-18mm was officially announced this morning. Cheaper than I thought. http://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-8-18mm-lens-announced/
  9. Over the last year or so, vlogging has been changing. A lot of the top travel vloggers are lugging around full frame gear, and seem to be obsessed with getting a depth of field so shallow that their eye will be in focus (sometimes) and the tip of their nose won't. I saw Louis Cole one time went to camera shop to get a speedbooster and that sigma 20mm f1.4, to put on his A7Sii in 35mm mode or whatever it's called. Ben Brown is vlogging with a 5D mark iv even. It's getting a bit silly.
  10. Can't there be room for both things?
  11. If you do decide to go the Wordpress route, there's a good beginner's course on Lynda.com that will walk you through the entire process. Lynda has agreements with a lot of public libraries where you can sign in with your library card number and don't have to pay the monthly membership fee. Check to see if that's the case for your local library.
  12. Are you familiar with Caleb Pike? He also does a lot of budget lighting setups and stuff like that on his channel that you might be into. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMmA0XxraDP7ZVbv4eY3Omg
  13. Speaking of the handling, I got the Sony stick on grip for the front of it and it helps quite a bit. It's still doesn't have the best handling being so small, but it's worth getting if you don't use a tight fitting case.
  14. I have the Sony RX100 iv. It's pretty amazing for the form factor. The 120fps 1080p is awesome. Only thing is that it is basically always overheating. They say it has a 5 minute record time for 4k I believe. I usually only make it half that length if it's a warm day. The higher frame rates also cause it to overheat pretty quick. If you're just filming short clips here and there, it's a great choice. If you want to shoot a bunch in a half hour period, you might have a hard time.
  15. A similar thing happened to me for a shipment from the US to Canada. It was sent to me on March 17th, and the tracking showed it was processed at a New York facility on March 24th, and stayed that way for almost 2 weeks. I thought it was lost for sure, but it showed up with a hefty duty charge yesterday. It wasn't camera gear though.
  16. A lot of Youtubers have already found that sponsored content is a better way to earn money than through the Youtube ads anyway. Several channels that I watch are no longer monetised in the traditional sense, but they pause for 30 seconds in the middle of a video to plug something themselves. Film Riot has been doing this for a long time, for instance. It will be interesting to see as time goes on if this becomes more commonplace, and if so, if Youtube will attempt to crack down on it and penalise accounts that run outright advertisements in their videos.
