  1. Me again, sorry to bore you all to death with my gh5 posts but I shoot my film tomorrow and need advice as i have not had time to test all of the profiles or buy vlog. Can anyone recommend a good picture profile and settings based on the following : I plan to grade all footage but will record as close as possible in camera, the colours I want. I have decorated my indoor location and the outdoor locations are stunning anyway. However, i still want options to tweak the colours to my liking etc. I will be shooting 4k 10 bit mostly. I haven't got into using luts and will probably stick with grading in Magic Bullet. I did not have the GH4 either do any recommendations will be truly appreciated!! ?
  2. Ok, the consensus seems to be to stick with 10 bit so thats what im gonna do!!!.....thanks for the replies and as soon as the film is finished ill post a link to it!
  3. Thanks a lot - the GH5 is a big step up for me and a big learning curve but I have some great projects this year so gotta wrap my head around it..!!!!
  4. Thanks, if I am going to have to shoot some 1080p I am going to stick with UHD 4k as it is the same ratio, Cinema 4k obviously is not. Varfaibale frame rate is not available in UHD 4k though!!.....in 10-bit
  5. For some of the slow mo shots I will have to shoot 8-bit 1080p. Are there any problems mixing 10 & 8-bit files on the same timeline in Premiere??
  6. Is there a significant increase in file size do you know?
  7. Hey all, Im shooting a new short film on Saturday and it will be shot on the GH5. After looking around the web, I have decided to stick to 8 bit. The reason is that my current PC monitors or graphics card do not support 10 bit colour, it is also very likely that the places that will screen the film will have 10 bit systems either. Furthermore, the current data rate on the GH5 is not all that high so based on all of this, it seems pointless to shoot in 10 bit. Unless you have a 10 bit system, you cannot see the difference anyway, right? What do you all think?
  8. I never use auto ISO, i like to know my settings
  9. No, I have it on. It does not change anything regarding the waveform or histogram disappearing when i change the iso
  10. On my old trusty GH2, whenever I adjust ISO, Aperture or whatever, the histogram stays on screen so I can see how my exposure is changing. On the GH5, whenever I am using histogram or waveform, as soon as I go to change the ISO, they are hidden so I cannot see real time changes to exposure!! It is very annoying! Anyone know a setting I am missing?, something I need to turn on in the menus? PS........other than this the GH5 is simply incredible!!!
  11. I live in Alicante, we dont even have a camera store!!!! lol
  12. Daaaaaaamn 1980's style!!! hhahahaha.........How long did yours take to arrive?? its definitely the same GH4 V-Log?
  13. Just to clarify, if I pucrhase this from the Panasonic website (it only mentions the GH4), it needs to be posted out to me??? I have a shoot next saturday and would like to use it but if it takes while to arrive then, well....im screwed!!! Can this not simply be bought and downloaded????
  14. Thanks, I was thinking that might be the way people do it, essentially you are speeding up the slow to normal speed until you actually want the slow mo. You are correct, Vegas is very easy to do this kind of thing, I just think Premiere has better plug in support for Magic Bullet products and the new proxy workflow is very very cool!! I would like to continue with Vegas but for the reasons above, I have to switch.
  15. Thanks!! I'm not under pressure to edit, I thought there was a way to record at high frame rates but they play at normal speed on your timeline until you chnage the speed in your software?? Vegas or whatever. The VFR mode (which is new to me) automatically plays the slow mo as soon as you put it on the timeline. That is not what I want. I want it to play at normal speed until I choose to slow it down at a specific point. I can probably figure it out but am just looking for a quick answer if anyone knows!
  16. Hi all, I just received my GH5 which is a big step up for me from my trusty GH2!...I am also switching to Premiere from Vegas. I have a couple of questions if you would be kind enough to help!! 1. How do I correctly set my project to Cinema 4k 10 bit in Premiere? 2. How can I correctly mix 1080p slow mo in a 4k project? In premiere, the 1080p footage obviously does not fit the preview window of a 4k project (This is all new to me!!) I want to shoot scene with a guy walking at a normal pace then sudenly switch to really slow, slow motion. I'm sure you have seen this effect in many videos online but I can post a link if that is acceptable on the forum. It seems I can only use VFR if I switch my system frequency to 50Hz from 24Hz. I do not want the slow mo created in camera, I want to do it in the edit so I can use the effect at specific points. I really would appreciate your advice as I start shooting next Saturday on a short film. This will be entered into festivals so I want to use the best quality files. Thanks in advance!! Charlie
  17. Hey, You might want to read this... http://www.luczenczyncinematography.com/single-post/2016/08/12/Shooting-a-Short-Film-on-the-Sony-A6300 The thing was overheating and that is to me....a deal breaker for narrative shoots, imagine how ridiculous it would to stop your shoot and tell the cast that you have to take a break to let the camera "cool down"!!! Shame, I really wanted to go with Sony too! PS. Its not the only story I have read where the thing has been used on a real production.
  18. Hi all, On my G80, when in manual focus mode, there is a small box on the display (see image) used for assiting with focus, however there does not seem to be any way to turn this off......even when I toggle through the different "DISP" button options to give me the cleanest possible screen view. This box is always on - in manual mode. When I am shooting video, and my exposure is correct etc, I like to switch to the cleanest possible view of what I am shooting, I do not want to see this box, at all!! I can do this on my GH2, does anyone know how I can turn this off??....I have gone through the menus but hopefully/maybe I am missing something. Thanks
  19. I would interested to see this, I thought the G7 Cage would be too small for the G85??
  20. Hi Stanley, I've never used them though I hear great things!
  21. Hi, Anyone know from experience whether there is a cage that fits the G80?......perhaps the Smallrig for the GH4? The specific Smallrig for the G80 is not out yet. Cheers!
  22. I will test them both as soon as the Zeiss arrives and post my results if you want to see it!
  23. Mercer...........you da man! hehehe.....thanks so much!
