  1. Got both Zeiss lenses and the CY adapter !!......thanks for your help!
  2. Thanks Mercer for the detailed response!! Just had a look at the Zeiss Planar and its very inexpensive so I could get that and the 28mm Distagon 2.8 for less than £500.00. Those two focal lengths will be enough for my needs. Yes I have the Canon Lens Turbo but it is unopened so I can send it back if the Nikon mount is more flexible??? Cheers!
  3. Hi Mercer, I dont have a fixed budget as such, probably around £500.00 per lens if I had to put a number on it. The Distagon costs around £250.00 on ebay, roughly. Ill be using them on the Panasonic G80. I want a fairly wide lens that I can still use for tight shots without distorting faces, and a short telephoto for close ups. Ive already got a Lens Turbo II which has a 0.726 magnification. Cheers!!
  4. Anyone actually used an A6300 or 500 for an actual video project shoot?? a short film, anything where you need the camera to operate all day?? I really wanted to go with on of these cameras but the overheating issue cripples theses cameras for serious projects. How can you take the risk.
  5. Hey all, I read a very interesting long thread on here about vintage lenses. I currently have a Pentax SMC M 50mm f1.7 and would like a 28mm f2.8 to go with it. Obvioulsy I could get a 28mm Pentax, these are fairly cheap on Ebay (cheap for a reason?). However, many people say that the Zeiss Distagon 28mm f2.8 is a great lens. What do you think??....anyone used both??....can you mix the 50mm Pentax with the Zeiss or will they look noticeable different?? Cheers!
  6. Really appreciate the advice. Ive only just gone the Blackmagic route and one thing that has concerned me is this type of lack of standardisation between Metabones & Blackmagic. Surely an M43 mount is a standard specification that can be engineered to very tight tolerances. This is hardly new. I have never heard of this type of issue with any other camera system. When you buy a lens for, lets say a Sony or Canon, its fits. Precison engineering a camera mount is hardly cutting edge technology. I just hope it fits becuase i do not have time on this project to wait for Metabones to send me anything.
  7. Thanks guys!.....I just hope it fits the Micro when it arrives. Have heard others have had issues with it being too tight!!! How can you tell its the .58X and not the .64X..? The guy selling it advertising it as the .64X Cheers!
  8. Hi all, Anyone know if this specific adapter shown in the pictures will work with the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Nilkon Mount?? Thanks
  9. That footage looks fantastic!....Id be interested to know the lens also.
  10. Hi all, This question kind of relates to the last post I made on the forum. I have a short film that we start production on in three weeks!!! .....I am looking for one fast lens at the 27-28mm equivalent on s35 for the BMMCC, I have a Canon Lens Turbo II so obviously want a fully manual lens. I am looking at the Samyang T1.9 VDSLR 20 mm. Is this a good choice?? Does anyone think there is a better lens out there for the same money which is as fast?? As a side note, I already have a native M43 Panasonic 25 f1.4 and a Pentax SMC 50mm f1.7 with adapter for the Lens Turbo. I am planning to shoot the entire film with these three lenses (becuase I am poor, and cant afford more lenses due to the fact I have to feed my 12 illegitamate children!!) Is it a bad idea to mix theses lenses on the same project?? I hope you can help because I have no one to ask where I live and we start shooting soon. Cheers!
  11. Indeed, I am not interested in photography equivalents, I am interested in studying great cinematographers and the lenses they use, so want equivalents for the BMPCC which is the most I can spend on a cinema camera for my films at this moment!
  12. Thanks alot!!! I used this calculator to work it out.. http://bmpcc.rubenkremer.nl/ It looks like the calculator I used is working out against 35mm still format.
  13. OK thanks all, I think I get it now, Im getting a BMPCC which is super 16 obviously so I am trying to work out the equivelnt of 27mm on s35. Which by my calcualtions, with a focal reducer (not metabones).........is approx 14mm!
  14. Hi all, I am well aware that full frame is a stills standard, not a cinema. I have hear people say that APS-C is the closest to super-35 cinema. I was watching a video about famous directors lens choices and how many stick with maybe two lenses, sometimes just one for an entire shoot. Lets say a director like Fincher likes 27mm (on The Game he used 27mm & 75mm). If you wanted to match approximately the same "look", would 27mm on APS-C be the way to go???? Thanks!!
  15. Thank you for the comments, I firmly believe in skills over gear!!.....new short is much more ambitious and deserves a better image, there are quite a few outdoor night scenes in this project that will be very difficult to control the lighting, that is why I am reluctant on the GH4 or other micro four thirds cameras. Im fine with 4k downscaled, I just dont need 4k final output. I dont care too much about the body, there are always new bodies. I feel its better to go with a lens system that I can use on different bodies in the future so I can always keep the lenses. Right now my lenses are only good for M43 bodies.....or Blackmagic!
  16. I like it!!.....to the point!
  17. The Canon 1DX mkii looks the bomb but its way out of my price range!!!...all my projects are unpaid right now, all made simply because I enjoy the process. The speedbooster option on apsc seems the way to go although id opt for a Lens Turbo. Could someone who knows for sure tell me, if you are using a shoulder rig with a non stabilised lens & body. Say a 50mm lens. Will the shoulder rig be sufficient to eliminate micro jitters?? Cheers ?
  18. The XT-2 looks quite interesting, I had not considered that. Are there adapters readily available for older lenses such as the Carl Zeiss Distagon f2.8 T* 28mm?? I like to use vintage lenses for video!
  19. Thanks but I can't wait for the GH5 and I'm not seeing how Panasonic can ever improve light performance on a sensor that is inherently small. Micro Four Thirds is limted by its size unless the technology dramatically improves, but I can't see it. I like APS-C and full frame - I would invest in a system which is discontinued though.
  20. Hi all, My first post here but have been using this site as a resource for a long time! I make short films and music videos, I also like taking stills, mostly portraits and definitely not fast moving things like sports. I have been using a GH2 for a number of years now but the time has come to get something new. I bought the GH2 specifically for a short film I made that was entered into festivals and I am still very happy with result, I'll put a link below if anyone is interested to see what I achieved with this camera. The GH2 just doesn't cut it for my anymore due to the limited DOF and low light capabilities when in situations I cannot light, let's face it, this happens. I'm just not happy with the image. I have a new short film waiting to go into production so need to upgrade now. I considered renting but for a 4 day shoot, renting a body and lenses seems like a waste of money since I want a new camera anyway and I like the flexibility I have by owning the gear for the shoot. I can afford an A7s, im also looking at the A6500 due to the IBIS but I dont think its a must have feature. If you look at the 2.00 minute mark of my short, that scene was shot with a 25mm f1.4 lens on the GH2 on a shoulder rig, no lens or body stabilization and I like the look. Long story short, my questions is.... Is this A7s a good body for my needs?? - short film, music videos, still photography (not fast moving) - I dont care about 4k right now either. If im using a shoulder rig and fairly short lenses, not having IBIS really shouldn't matter no?? My last short is here... Thanks!!!
