Blackmagic casually announces 12K URSA Mini Pro Camera
Yannick Willox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yes, but even with 3 r5 cams you cannot do one shoot ... a 12k ursa is actually cheaper ... same goes for the glass if you already have it ! -
Ok thanks. I was mistaken that more keyframes = less motion interpolation = fast movement more in sync with the music. As an example, some passages can have 3 times up and 3 down per second. The easy solution was to make the tutti camera (view from the hall) one frame early. It could be a visual/psycho acoustic thing, we are used to hearing sound late when viewing from a distance. I did not change the close shots, and they always seem fine...
-
Thanks, I need to experiment more I guess. I am starting to think the amount of keyframes are the determining factor. you say there is not a lot of movement, but 40 string players bowing happily is a lot of detailed movement. It is exactly there where things happen, and the conducter is unhappy, because where does Resolve decide to put keyframes ? The timing is very crucial here. uploading in full hd to Youtube. What happens with keyframes there ? Anyway, youtube does not keep a tight sync between image and sound anyway, so all of this is a bit theoretical. I just need a good starting point.

Hello, I have a specific question, which google did not answer yet ... I have to render a big orchestral video project. I need manageable filesizes but correct motion (timing of the image on the music is essential). Are there settings that give better/worse results ? CBR/VBR ? The amount of keyframes ? I am quite in the dark concerning these rendering settings. Thanks !

EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake
Yannick Willox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I have this feeling this is all just a result of reduced timelines and segmented R&D. What if Canon intentionally did a bad thermal design, to have a thermal cripple hammer. What if, just months before the release, they realised the new sensor and cpu are so efficient, they do not really overheat as much. The overheating timers seem like an afterthought, implemented too quickly, by a five year old ! They will now engage a 12 year old for the firmware update, respecting the previously leaked time tables for the video modes. Anyway you look at it, they are utterly incompetent. -

Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place
Yannick Willox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera this is a nice mini peltier fridge. Seems like somebody already built a cinema camera around it ! The second joke is, not only the r5 overheats, but it also fries your mac pro ... Meanwhile I am editing 8-cam 4k braw (one actually 6k) on a 1k self built pc ! Canon is really insulting their clients if you ask me. -
That’s weird. When I click on support and scroll down on the bmd website, I have three options: forum, email and telephone. never tried calling, as I never needed to. But they clearly have regional telephone support. It does not seem hidden, there is a name and a photo of your regional support manager, business hours and a tel. Nr.

Blackmagic casually announces 12K URSA Mini Pro Camera
Yannick Willox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
This sensor seems like the next thing. 12K full sensor readout to 4K braw - how do they do it ? Intrigued by the new color science as well. -
The info says they will fit any camera using the lp-e6, which does not mean the p4k will actually use more than 50% of the capacity without a firmware update. But maybe that is a pessimistic view ...
-
Weill, thanks to the Canon R5, we now have the lp-e6nh battery, which should give 17% more power. That should take us p4k users close to the 60 min mark ?

My 500 gb t5s were manufactered 04/2020 and still needed the update ! Just download the utility from samsung, and dont switch on password protection !

Just to give a heads up, IMO the T5 drives are EOL. Stocks are drying up (the 1TB anyway). I just posted the following over at the Blackmagicdesign forum, I have some interesting observations re T5 speed - I did not find any mention anywhere one should update the firmware of the T5 drives, even recent ones. I just got a bunch of new T5s before they run out of stock, and after using a 1TB T5 for 6 months that actually does not record as high bitrates as my cheap 256GB SD card I tried updating to the latest firmware on the T5. It is much quicker now, also when connected to PC and writing to it. Previously I only got 300 MB/s peak, which drops down to 130 MB/s after say 40 GB. At this very moment my P4K is recording BRAW at max resolution a 60 fps at 3:1 compression ratio (=270 MB/s). I'm 4 minutes far, no dropped frames, still recording ! (that's 64 GB, after which the write speed remains constant for sure) I would recomend downloading the Samsung T5 utility and updating the firmware. This does not seem documented at all. This means my 500 GB T5 is not on the supported media list for braw 3:1 60 fps, but after the firmware update, it works ! Does anyone here have similar experiences ? This would mean any T5 with correct firmware would be able to do 6K full res at 24p on a bmpcc 6K !

A solution could be the cage Smallrig has on preorder ? On the other hand, a better solution could have been a half-cage plus the NP battery holder plus power converter to 12V Smallrig has on preorder ? Much more compact and almost double Wh ... I guess you could even just screw it on the top, without a cage (almost no weight). https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-np-f-battery-adapter-plate-with-charging-cables-for-bmpcc-4k-6k-cameras-eb2698.html I have to agree here, BM should have opted for a 50% more performant internal battery (at least), and the battery grip option is much too big for the Wh it gives. And wobbly ? So, putting the bmpcc with the grip on a stand with a cine zoom on it is not really an option

Anyone here with multiple p4k that can comment if there is a way to start/stop remotely over bluetooth, one smartphone for multiple cameras ? Is it possible ?

If you want to know about Toneh and other useful insight in the relativity of it all, don’t forget this channel: I especially like the insider/management meetings he does 🙂 There are a few great ones about Sony and Canon... -
P6K makes no sense to me, as you need another set of lenses. I will rent one, for a specific project where we need to crop in (a lot ?). Will be interesting to see the difference in that specific case. I bought a Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk2 a month ago - amazing glass for the price. I just need to order the 21 mm now. Does anyone have more experience with the DZO cinema glass ? I like my panaleica 12-60 a lot on my gx80, but somehow it does not make me happy on the p4k. Too much distortion on the wide end. It is still parfocal though. I still prefer my older fourthirds lenses on the P4k ... Even the ois seems to have less quirks.
-
More than a year later, seems like braw is a much underrated codec. It edits quite easily on a budget pc, does not generate huge files, and is free to use for other manufacturers. There is nothing like the p4k for the money, i needed resolve studio, so the bmpcc4k actually cost me 950 euro. More so, because I already had some decent m43 lenses. The 6k is another story, plenty of competition there.
-
Did you miss this thread ? The facebook user page was also full of it, enough anecdotal experience with electrical problems. Anyway, the power supply you mentioned does not have enough wattage - I am surprised they sell it specifically for the bmpcc 4K. My powerbank is actually not much longer, and my cam is secured properly on the stand. I would also not trust my camera on a cheap plastic battery pack between the stand and the camera ... In my setup, switching position only takes a couple of seconds ! Also take note of the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mark II :-) I need to order the 21 mm f1.8 asap.
-
The output voltage is too low ... It is only 10.8 V which is the minimum. The output is only 2A max, the bmpcc 4K power supply is 2.5A ! Imo it is a product that works, but it is anyone's guess how long the bmpcc 4K will work without frying itself. I use a batpower 98Wh model, output is 15V. It cuts out before voltage goes out of bmpcc 4K specs, and transition to internal battery is seemless. It also has more than enough power to power the camera + OIS + 48V + SSD and charge the internal battery. It can output 90W at 15V, so it should be safe at 6A max (it is designed to power laptops ...) At only 110 euro it will power the 4K for 270' with T5 connected, screen at 60%, lens OIS on (the internal LPe6n battery gives 44' under the same conditions) So I can safely keep the camera on and recording for 5h ! (6h20 on SD card, screen at 30%, no OIS). They also have 148Wh and 210 Wh models (the 148Wh has the same physical size...) I use the smallrig powerbank holder, on a nato clamp. I have 2 extra nato rails on my cage (one underside, one on the top handle), so I can reposition or attach the powerbank in seconds. My advice would be : do NOT buy a cheap charger with less than 3A / 15V specs. I think 110 euro is already on the cheap side. My runtime with it equals 6,13 LPe6n batteries, which translates to €484 !

EOSHD in lockdown in Barcelona - photos from Coronavirus ghost town
Yannick Willox replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
We even have a number. Trump offered 890 M in the absence of his staff to the then ceo of the company. it was the same period when Trump was bloating about the US making the vaccine first. Clearly the US was going to BUY it first. The ceo was sacked instantly by the board of the company. The EU and German government intervened also. I do not think this is fake news. -
It is beyond me how any republican, democrat, libertarian, whatever could ever support that guy, who clearly has several personality disorders, and was not even a republican himself. The only party card he has is an opportunistic one. He is an open liar, opportunist, misogynist, racist, the list goes on. it is completely beyond me how one can support him, just based on the fact of him being potus. The thing I do not get is how people that can see this guy for what he is, get flamed, just because he got elected. It just shows how bad the system got, not only in the US, but the rest of the democratic world as well. It shows how badly this corrupted system has settled within all of us. we all have our mini trumps. It is still beyond me how anyone can defend them. .... News flash. Here in Belgium the situation seems quite controlled, people are following the severe restrictions well, and yet, the hospitalisations are DOUBLING every day. I think you all can see where this will lead us....
