Thats a good recharge time, much better than my NPFs. Although thats possibly more to do with me not buying a decent charger for them! I think he was just showing that you can power it directly if you want. He was certainly using the plate with the lower capacity NPFs. I've had no problem personally with my SmallRig plate dropping on my P4K even when using servo zoom lenses on it but my main bugbear is the recharge time of NPFs and this certainly addresses that.

Thanks for this. Its a very versatile solution as well being able to power laptops too. I'd be tempted by the higher capacity version but would need to get 2 of these instead to keep within the restrictions for flying. What is the recharge time ? The battery itself is only 7.4v so I wouldn't be powering it directly from that as he was showing either but that version of the SmallRig plate he is mounting it on does then bump the output to 12v to the camera.

The 18650s are usually good for around 400-500 recharges before its cycle life is over (defined as when it can only achieve 80% of its original capacity) and will still likely be good for a few thousand after that so it will be some time before you throw them away ?

Tilta do their own compact dual 18650 solution that gives out 8v. https://tilta.com/shop/18650-battery-pack/ It doesn't come with the batteries but you should be able to get 2 of those with a charger for under £20. At £60-70 total its not the cheapest solution out there as you could roll your own but at least this way you get the cable and know its officially supported and tested with the motors. Advantage of 18650s is that they aren't that much bigger than AA's depsite the extra capacity and output so you can carry a few spare to increase the run time if you needed.

If you have some time, you should download the free Zoom Ambisonics player and the original files from that thread and have a play with those to see how you can move the listening position when set to Binaural. If you have a 5.1 system connected to your Mac then so much the better when you set it to that but unrealistic for how people will be consuming VR on headphones obviously. The 190526_001.WAV file has the constant source of the fountain so is a good example of how far you can shift things.

The H3-VR has a six axis motion sensor so it always knows its position relative to the "front" of the camera and encodes internally in Ambix (used for YouTube and Facebook 360 stuff) and FuMa (usually for games) formats so everything remains in sync with viewing angle. Considering how long Ambisonic recording has been with us (I was selling those Soundfield microphones almost 30 years ago now and even then it wasn't new), it is the video tech that is in its infancy really.

If you want to dip a toe into binaural recording in a budget self contained unit then I have the Zoom H3-VR which is a pretty good unit. It records the audio internally in multi channel ambisonic format but also provides a live binaural stereo downmix to record to your camera. This gives you the option to post-produce the ambisonic files or just go with a binaural version on the camera as with this example I did here with the OG Pocket camera. There are links to the original files and the free Zoom Ambisonics player so you can play around with the possibilities here

I did say "solution for me" and I don't have a need for them in those mounts The MFT>E and E>Z mounts are both wafer thin to be fair so even if you stack them it isn't in the same ballpark as stacking say a C/Y>EF with an EF>MFT(Speedbooster) that I routinely use.

Yep, thats the rub with them if you go for the really cheap ones. For what @kye is looking to do with it (just a big monitor to do focusing on a locked off camera) then it might be OK but for anything beyond that its a crapshoot. Literally If you can't find someone who has used the exact one with your exact camera config then it comes down to being a £30 gamble versus a £120 certainty of the BM UltraStudioMini.

Solution for me as I would need them for MFT and E-mount is to buy the MFT version and use the newly discovered (for me at least !) cheap MFT>E mount adapter. As a used Z50 is probably on my horizon in the next 12 months, then as there are now similar cheap dumb adapters for E>Nikon Z as well then I can have the Meike's be "swappable" to MFT, E and Z for about £40.

There are plenty of cheap HDMI>USB3 capture devices around that people use for games console capture. This one is currently on offer from Aliexpress for £30 https://a.aliexpress.com/o0rZGAIYT You need to do some research with these type of units though to make sure they will accept the format you are using as some of them will have issues with 4K or even 1080 if its 24p. Panasonic cameras are usually no problem at providing an output that capture devices accept but its worth checking. In this case, checking might actually involve buying one blind as you'll probably find lots of comments about using it with an Xbox but few about using it with a GH5 in the specific format that you use. As for quality and latency, these things are generally good enough for what it is you will be using it for as a focus monitor for a locked off camera as that task is likely to only create very small differences between frames so won't be taxing the compression too much.

Is anyone using the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC with their Pocket6K ? The one I've got I've had for years and it works perfectly but I'm having a lot of trouble with it on the Pocket6K in terms of electronic focus control. If you press the AF button it goes off for a while trying and generally failing to find a lock and after that it won't accept any more commands so you can't change the aperture or do another AF without un-mounting and re-mounting the lens. The obvious answer is not to use the AF of course but it is prone to doing exactly the same thing with my focus controller, particularly when its being driven backwards. It would be a pity to put have to put it on the banned list (as its a decent and very affordable stabilised standard zoom for the Pocket6K) but as it stands its going to have to be unless I can get someone to verify their copy. As I say, I'm pretty certain there is nothing wrong with my particular copy but if there is anyone one here who has the same combo if they could just check theirs then you'd be doing me a big favour. In a similar vein, if you have the time and could check for this on any other EF lenses you have (just press AF and see if it locks and then survives subsequent aperture changes etc) and have any similar rogue lenses then that would be a great help as well. You can buy a Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder which is HDMI/SDI to Thunderbolt which is about £100. Then you can use ScopeBox which will turn it into a fully fledged monitoring solution with scopes, LUTs and focus peaking. https://www.divergentmedia.com/scopebox ScopeBox is $149 for the first year and $99 to renew although you don't have to continue and get to keep the latest version. So if it does all you need then consider it a one off purchase of $149. There is a free trial to let you decide if its right for you. However..... You do know that for exactly the same as that combined price I'm just going to tell you to get the Acsoon CineEye system again don't you ? Its just a far more versatile option and gives you all of those same facilities but does it wireless. If you don't have an iPad then there are a ton of 10" Android tablets on Amazon for well under £100 that it will run on that, combined with the tools it has, will give you more than enough screen size to get the job done. If you yourself are going to be the subject that you are trying to nail focus on, its a lot easier to be doing that holding a tablet than it is juggling a laptop on your knee.

You never know, I might also sell this one for $10K so that part of your assumption could be wrong as well The released product will be different in a significant way other than just the price though but its still a way off being revealed yet. I wouldn't delay any camera buying decision based on a yet to be available device from a serial deadline misser such as myself.

Its a custom design. The ones in the video are resin printed but the shipping ones are industrial 3D prints in a polished carbon dyed nylon. The unit threshold for break even on injection moulding is too high for a niche product and it would have been a needless cost to pass on to people really. The PBC is the first piece of the jigsaw so expect other things to sprout from it in relatively short order. And not just for the Blackmagic cameras. As the PBC drives the camera's own lens control system, the extent of the compatibility with adapters is exactly the same as the camera allows with the adapter. So, if the adapter (such as Viltrox) can't drive the focus from the camera istelf then the PBC won't be able to either. The difference in the packages is the total value of the package as the First Wave includes the tripod adapter. So the user pays the same price but the discount % is more as it is from a higher total value. Expect to see more coverage of it over the next week or so from different outlets...

It acts as a bluetoorh bridge between the Tilta wheel and the camera but the Ronin wheel is S-BUS so would require a different reciever type. Its possible to do but would be a different product. The PBC is designed to act as a hub for add ons as well as a standalone product (it will be the core module of the AF expander for example) so an expander module to do S-BUS could be considered.

I'm not sure if it has 10 bit out though I suspect not or they would have been shouting it from the rooftops. The kit lens it had on (which has VR to somewhat mitigate the lack of IBIS) is a bit slow in terms of light gathering but the AF even in a shitty lit camera shop was anything but slow and it being collapsible makes the basic kit very compact. On the other hand, the current downward trajectory of the Z6 price (aided and abetted by the increasingly unicorn resembling ProResRAW option) will likely see used ones hitting the £1K mark in the next few months so it might well be worth hanging on if you're in no rush. The D500 is considered by Nikon Professional Services as a fully fledged pro camera and actually carries more qualifying profile points now than the D3s, so thats another win in the hair splitting wars for it
