  1.  I would think only on super 35 as the original anamorphot can only just do 40mm with out vignetting,  and with being targeted at smaller sensors.

thats why i like slr magic you can get pretty wide, where as most projector lenses only can do tele lenses. 85ff 50 crop  ect...

buts that the trade off i wonder how this 40 will do with tele lenses, Andrew how soon will it be available? I'd like to buy it, to try it out.

  2. hey andrew thanks for chiming in here.

don't get me wrong, I understand very well how the anamorphots work, that's why i use the 45 and 35  2,8 contax  zeiss lenses, very small and very close front elements.

And the quality has been absolutely great, I am very pleased.

but on the 85 2.8 which also is very small for an 85 the quality has been ok. Better than other test footage of 85s i've seen

I'd like to know if you think the new anamorphot would work better will tele lenses like an 85 on ful frame?

I know you use a 70mm in the anamorphic primes, is there any way you can tell me about that lens, its characteristics and how you got a good pairing out of it

    thanks a bunch

  3. its that i have to stop down so far and yes single focus would be nice too , I curently use contax zeiss 35 45 and the 85 as a lens set. and the 35 and 45 look great even wide open . its the 85 that needs to be at 5.6 or more. the diopeters dont seem to help it much either

  4. 16x9 for those of us who shoot on a7s or 5dmlii, just curious i have the 1.33 50 and am pretty happy with it up till i go to my 85 2.8 contax zeiss, I thought the 2.8 85 zeiss with its small front element would do pretty good, but no bananas, maybe this 40 would do better?

  5. Hey guys wanted to get your opinion of quality im getting out these this lens combinations, shot at 2.8 I think they are pretty good.

quick dirty test so sorry no labels and information

shots are  35 "50" 85 interior 35 "50" 85 exterior, 85 with .33x  then anamorphic  50 vs 2 normal 50mm primes. to see the image style difference, and lastly a pretty shot from one of the 50s

Cheating a little with the 85 as it has an oval insert taking to a more 3.5 fstop.

and dont ask how i got the 35mm with so little vignetting on fullframe.

1,1x clear zoom on the sony clears that right up

  6. Is there a warp stabilizer going on in some of the shots, or is that rolling shutter, or am I just too tired and not seeing things straight?

Anyway, awesome test. I just bought the Tokina 28-70, and expect good results from it. Will post when it arrives and I get the chance to actually test. :p

would like to how you slr magic with that lens.

oh range finder thats a good idea

  7. contax zeiss are pretty good, a lot of them are the same designs as the zeiss "Classic line" ZE  ZF.2

and the best part for video work is that they have manual apatures but also spin focus  the right way. like a zeiss ZE ZF.2 hybrid. some of their coatings are not as modern or flare resistant as the "classic line."

  8. Geoff.

the threads are normal step-up rings so yes they can be removed. .Glass is good condition no haze or anything like that. 28 i think has a small scratch cant have to go look.  every year i have to leave them in the sun for a while since they have thorium elements and they yellow.

I'm not  sure yet if i want to sell them, but i really do want to get that otus 85

  9. Hey guys im thinking about selling my Pentax Takumar prime set,  how much do you think they would be worth as a kit?

    4 lenses Takumars Non-smc so uncoated for better flares.      28mm 3.5     35mm   2.0  Legendary 50mm 1.4   and  85mm 1.9

all with zip gears from half inch rails, 77mm front threads, ef adaptors and back caps, and most importantly all declicked,

heres a pcture of them sans the 85 looks the same as the 35.

I 've had great success with these lenses they look nice, the 35 and 85 are not tack sharp wide open but they ait. I just got an otus 55 a need the funds if im going to try and complete the set.

heres a recent music video shot on them except for the ultra wide shots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gVqPkk6GEQ

  10. Anybody tried the slr magic anamorphot with leica M or M type lenses?

my thinking is that most of those lenses are very small and have iris ring in front of the focus ring. so the iris would be closer to the anamorphots rear element.

this would be for an a7s  fullframe.

  11. I think i have two ideas for a lens set. they are small sets but the cropping switch modes on the a7s can make up for that.

option 1.     pentax 40mm 2.8 pancake  and pentax 645 75mm2.8    for its small size for a tele lens should have good iq on the anamorphot

option 2.  Zeiss contax 45mm 2.8 pancake and zeiss 85mm 2.8 and ziess 35mm 2.8     all the lenses have small diameters and seem to have the irises close to the front.

    any thoughts. .
