Michal Gajdoš got a reaction from kidzrevil in A7RII - better sharpness than A7SII?
. Yes and in my opinion that's horrible. the a7rii have more options for recording, less rolling shutter in FF mode, who cares if the ful lreadout is crop? you can use more lenses and use the speedbooster, are they even aware of the speedboosters ? it is dissapointing that a7s is not better in video. At this point, after seeing all the test shots, I am disappointed and have to absolutely agree that a7s ii was rushed, and not needed. It is simply a rip of for the guys who bought atomos. Moreover this camera doesn't offer anything more from the a7rii but a bit better lowlight (really in all the tests i ve seen, unless you want to shoot in moonlight, which you still can with the a7s mark i) and the 120fps in 1080p which is still not that stellar. i am dissapointed, rebranded sensor for 2899USD with a major sunspot issue ? WTF SONY ?! they should have waited, bring out a mature product , and separate it from a7rii with video completely like 10bit, (i dont care if the current processors do not support it, change them) so that we dont need to hesitate between those two. oh god sony why ?!

    Where ?! I'd kill for a 5Dii for 500€....but I keep finding them for 700-900€.
Idk where you guys get cameras for that price, there must be some trick, a friend of mine got the D800 recently for 1300€ and it was a great deal (usually they are around 1500€). Thats ~3x min wage, which is 496€ I believe. Where do you guys search for gear ? I search around ebay..
I can get a Nikon, but isnt it terrible for video ?

5dii inferior sensor, ML raw send you with card way more than 800euros, OVF, huge body, AF not at all stellar. no way i would go   for that. A7 all the way if were talking pictures, d750 if video

Michal Gajdoš got a reaction from SRV1981 in Sony vs Canon colour science - does this explain the difference?
The color is not a physical property of any object, it is only subjective to our mind. What we are used to. There is zero science to your claims that Canon has "better" colors, there is no "better" color. A certain color you might find pleasing, is disgusting to others. Just as stated here:
On the other there are also articles saying the opposite, like this one : http://web.mit.edu/abyrne/www/ColorRealism.html, but as they say it works only to a certain degree.
However it is important to note the difficulty of creating a nice look with the sony's S Log compared to baked colors of Canon straight out of camera.
Personally, I don't care if canon has almighty color, if those grandpas cannot give me simple stuff like focus peeking or articulated screen (what is the almighty color shot to me if it is not in focus and my back is crying in pain) to more sophisticated stuff such as slow mo, better DR, better sensor etc. etc. etc. If only we could combine best of both worlds

Why does the consensus seem to be that it is harder to grade S-LOG?  Because it's 8-bit, 4:2:0?  Are people confusing color grading with color correcting?
It isn't raw.  You have to set the white balance correctly for every lighting change.  That is as easy as holding up a grey card or using an expo disk and shooting a custom white balance. Done.
I find it is much more difficult to do a final color correction on Red footage because no body ever shoots a grey card.  I might have a bit more room to tweak colors, but I HAVE to do a job that someone COULD have done in the field.
    I haven't noticed any banding.

I've had the a7sII since launch (bought it from BH), and I'm not getting the sunspot issue you're getting.  I've tried pretty hard to re-create it... and nothing.  Just white, bright, light...
I'm also not having an issue with heat, either.  I've used it on 4 pretty long (12-15hr) shoot days, and never have I had it overheat.  *I should note, I wasn't recording continuously.  Each take was between 20 seconds - 2 minutes max.  But the camera was running mostly all day, recording 4k, powered through v-mount, running video to a SmallHD 502 and a Paralinx Triton and I never had any heat issues.
I do agree that the Gamma Assist LUT should be adjustable.  It mainly hangs in the dead center for me.  I never had an issue under-exposing, but I was mainly checking exposure through the 502 and using a quick, LUT I built in Resolve.
As far as adapters go, I recently learned to love E-mount lenses after picking up a used 35mm Sonnar, and I'm a bit blown away by the auto-focusing and face tracking modes.  I've set Focus Hold to C1 and I like it enough to double down and sell my 24-105 Art for a Sony 24-70 Vario-Tessar.  It isn't as sharp, but offers better contrast and is also nearly 1 1/2 lbs lighter.

I've got the commlite adapter and almost no issue at all when speaking communication between lens and body. I got 16-35 2.8, 35 1.4, 50 1.4, 85 1.2 and 135 2 (magical one...). The only major problem i can see with this commlite is strange flares when the sun hits corners of the lens... Due to the material used inside the adapter or anything else... Don't really know.

Metabones problems are well known with the combo Sony Alpha body and Canon lenses. Commlite one is 85 euros compared to the 530 euros for the metabones... Ouch !!!!!

I think most “better colour science” is depend on personal preferences ,which some people see unnatural as natural

Funny, when I had the 7D I always had to tweak the colors. Same happened with 5D files. I find Canon's colors so unnatural, in fact I find them too saturated and too contrasty.
I enjoy Sony's color much better.
