Thanks Brother, without owning one, I agree with most of your points. I wish there was more CineLikeD and Natural examples floating around... just because a camera shoots VLog doesn't mean everybody needs it. I recently bought a 5D3 and am ecstatic with it... it really is something else but it does lack any quick post workflow. For right now I am happy with what I have, but I have a few possible upcoming shorts that will require a quicker turnaround with cheaper media and 4K 60p and these honest reviews help me make a choice. Thanks for your thoughts. Thanks for posting this. As much as I don't care about 4K, the 4K 60p is pretty impressive and the other features are great as well. But the 5-axis ibis from the GX85 has really spoiled me. It's amazing how many composition options you have, when you're not hindered by a tripod.

That happens to all of those lenses. The good new is you can have them declick it while it's being cleaned. I think there's a few places that list on eBay that will do a full CLA on old Zeiss Jena lenses for a fairly inexpensive price.

Edit: posted to wrong topic.

Lol. They could have no plans to ever make a Pocket II and they're just using that as an excuse. I guess I'll have to settle for 3K Raw on my 5D3.

Probably the best reaction I've ever received from my work.

Love FCPX, just wish it would work with CDNGs.
-
Yeah, but I'm unsure why they believe it needs to be 4K? 2.5k in 24 as 60p would be a fine upgrade for the Pocket and would quench most people's needs for the next couple of years.

When I briefly had the FZ2500, I loved the quick/slow function... does the GH5 have that? And if so, does it work in 4K? Here's a dumb, slow motion, test video I did with FZ2500... would look a lot better in 4K... Also the slow motion in that video was all shot in variable frame rate mode if it wasn't the slow/quick mode. Does variable frame rate work in 4K?

So, now that the GH5 has been out for over a month, what is the verdict from the early adopters? I have heard so many mixed reviews and have seen a lot of videos from people saying they are returning their GH5, I am curious to know from the EOS HD community. BH has even had a half dozen used GH5s for sale and they are still selling it for preorder? It's actually rather strange that one of the biggest camera stores in the world hasn't gotten any GH5s in stock, but that's neither here nor there. Part of me wants to buy one and the other part says... meh ML Raw looks way better. If the GH5 was selling for $1500 or $1600, I probably would buy one, but at $2000... I'm not so sure, even though I have an upcoming short that it would be perfect for.

Way too hard on yourself. The opening shot with the light effect works brilliantly. I really thought it was a moon time lapse. Very interesting stuff, with some great low budget pointers I'll be stealing.

GH5 crop factor vs GH4 (C-mount lens & native M43 lens)
mercer replied to Ian Edward Weir's topic in Cameras
They should work but probably nothing wider than 25mm. With the GH4, G7, GX85, G85 you could go as low as 12.5mm with some 1" c-mounts. -
Not many people can afford an Arri Classic or have the jobs that warrant one. 15 grand is a lot of money to pay unless you're doing some high end narrative work.

Good to know, thanks.

Has anybody tried a modest bump to 2.5k or 2.7k. I would love to be able to get 2.5k 2:39 working one day. Hell, even cinema 2K at 48-60p would get me off. Yeah I need to test this, Hyalinejim swears by it. I'm pretty sure he uses it with Adobe, and it seems like it may be better designed for After Effects than Resolve, but since I am testing workflows right now, I am pretty much game for anything.

@Neumann Films That's great, looking forward to it. I almost bought a used one last night, but I'm too happy with my 5D3 right now to justify another big purchase, but I do predict a GH5 in my future one day. Any chance you'll be getting one of those new fangled cine cameras, under the Shroud of Turin, to test?

Yeah, I drive stick as well but I don't remember turning it on, so I wasn't sure if it is a default option for a reason. I think I'll do the same... thanks Squig.

Yeah it's really something else. I also like Arri LUTS with it too, but I've been using them at 50% as a finishing LUT. It seems to crank up some shiny contrast within the textures... if that makes sense...

Maybe Sigma is introducing M4/3 mount Art lenses...

Panasonic Varicam LT versus 7 cameras, Maybe more LoL.

I saw that short a while ago. I think it's supposed to be the first short film ever shot with the BMPCC. But yeah, that camera amazes me all the time. It just has that mojo we are all after. Are you thinking of picking one up? There's a barely used one on eBay for $680. If I wasn't in love with my 5D3, I would still be interested in the Pocket. -
Hey Luke, just watched this video again and I must say I may be more impressed than the first viewing. Were your opening shots a time lapse or were they done in post? Also... any chance you and the wife would consider making a director's commentary for this video... would love to know the details.

I actually really like the Varicam. Their Raw output is gorgeous. I wouldn't turn one down. -
Nice job. You had some pretty high contrast shots that I think you handled really well. The edit was quick and upbeat. Not a fan of the music but it worked well with your edit. Now with this being a gear oriented site, what lens(es) and support did you use?

These are some cool ass topics you are posting but sadly they would probably see more traffic if they were posted on the main board... sadly a lot of folks around here have zero interest in short films or actual finished projects. A shame really.
