    Clearly, the M31 LUT. It will go down in media history books of the 2010s as a similar abomination of taste as, say, this was the abomination of 1980s video making taste:

    Oh yeah, to go back to 2010s bad taste, also add
    - f0.95 Bokeh (where a person's eyes are in focus but the nose is blurred-out);
    - pointless anamorphic flares;
    - pointless slider shots;
    - fake light leak transitions;
    - people shooting flowers in their backyard in macro shots;
    - Hans Zimmer symphonic movie scores copied and pasted on the macro shots of the backyard flowers.
    - 1 minute opening credits for 3 minute YouTube videos that otherwise consists of slider shots of backyard flowers shot with f0.95, anamorphic Bokeh & flares with fake light leak transitions - with everything being graded with the M31 LUT and a lifted Hans Zimmer movie score as the soundtrack.

    :joy::joy::joy::joy: Shame YT doesn't have a filter in the search options.

    I was tweaking color settings and reading old posts here about how people setup their nx-1s... and realized I still dont fully understand what master black level does... and came across this vid on google...

    I really never tried this before... I would make changes write down on some paper the settings and shot it like a clap board and import several tests into editor...   but I could have been doing it live!

    Here is another one

    It sounded like he was saying you can check out a video in editor and if you like the settings you can copy it back to the memory card and automatically force the NX-1 to change the cameras settings to it?   Im a little foggy on this one (but I have been up for 30 hours)

    That is all....

    Hi there,

    The Video Metadata clip is regarding the extraction of ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed etc data from the internally recorded video. Although the NX1 doesn't export it with the video file (stupid) if you playback the file in camera and then take a JPEG frame grab (internally) if will pull some exif data with it, so you can remember what settings you used for the shot.

    Regards.

  3. It's still not clear from that conversation whether the HDMI out is 8-bit or 10, but it sounds like 8-bit 4:2:2. Still, that's better than I thought.

    I know, I should have phrased the question better. The way the answer is phrased suggests 10-bit out, a spec repeated by Tom's Review and a few others (8-bit is also quoted by various sites). I don't have an ext. recorder to check.

  4. Ooh, neat! I must've read some bad information. Did they specify 8-bit or 10-bit?

    Here's the actual section of the email, there are no secrets here so I see no reason why not.

    • Does the camera output clean video in 4:2:2 or 4:2:0? I've been seeing both quoted and just want to know for sure.
      4:2:2
    • Also, when it converts the sensor feed into H265 internally, does it use 10bit or 8bit colour depth? I noticed the ProRes app converts it into ProRes 422 so just wanted to check. Judging by the smoothness of the colour gradients in the video clips Samsung uploaded it looks like it could be 10bit, please confirm?
      It's 8bit when recording internally.  The image quality is much smoother and better because of the new codec (H.265). It has much better compression ratio than H.264.
    • Will Samsung release a benchmark app to test how long the conversion time is? For example, the user selects a resolution/ frame rate and clip length and it can predict how long it will take?
      It will take about 5 minutes  to convert for 1 minute clip.
    • Rumour has it that the camera can output 7K video at 30fps or 1080p at 120fps (in theory). The UHS-2 card slot has enough bandwidth to send that footage to a card so between those two thing it could happen. Maybe. In a future software update?
      This is not have been confirmed and we can't comment on this. :)

  6. You are blind or you did not read my link ? It is still compressed but they work and will release via firmware uncompressed RAW on A7RII.

    :rolleyes:

    A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. My post is simply a statement of fact based in the present. Take a chill pill, it's just a camera. I don't even use Sony cameras, but I don't see why they don't provide 14 bit lossless raw to their customers. I'm loyal to camera users, not camera brands.

    Actually while we're on the subject, the thing that caught my attention about this issue was when I read something that spoke of its raw as 14 bit. I've always been cautious of Sony's marketing since they started putting '4K' logos on cameras that don't shoot it. I used to work in the warehouse of a camera store.

    By the way, what's sexy about the number 50? Are you numberist or something. I got a 'sexy' number for you. 14.

  7. Great Sony Interview !!!

    Finally uncompressed RAW. I like all his answers as well including the 4K quality in APSC and that the noise is better than A7R, and that even if 42 is not sexy like Canon 50mpx, they had to do this for the compromise for ISO, and 4K video.

    Good Sony ! You got it. Canon, you didn't.

    Sony interview and a good news: They are working on uncompressed RAW!

    The A7rii, the RX10 ii and RX100 iv all ship with compressed RAW. ARW 2.3

  8. Hello everybody,

    I have experienced a focus peaking/viewfinder problem with my new NX1 and I would like to know if it's a bug of the new firmware 1.3 or if I have to return the camera. (even if I really like this camera).

    This happen in one particular configuration and just in this configuration (i use a samsung NX 16-50 S lense for the test with OIS off and the other button of the lens on MF).

    while recording video in UHD (3840/2160) 30P in pro quality, if I look into the viewfinder and use the focus peaking the image in the viewfinder is shaky and lag???

    If I do the same video (manual focus+ focus peaking) but use the screen everything is fine.

    If I switch off the focus peaking everything is fine in the viewfinder.

    If I record a video using the viewfinder+ manual focus+ focus peaking in UHD 24P, UHD 25P, HD 120P....everything is fine.

    So apparently it is a bug in UHD 30P in manual focus with focus peaking if i use the viewfinder.

    Has somebody the same trouble with NX1??

    Thanks for your help.

    I think I've been able to replicate this. The video feed appears skittish, oscillating back and forth on a 45 deg(ish) angle around a central point. I know the NX1 has a dedicated splitter chip, maybe the freq of the vid output with the chip is doing something. The rest of the HUD is stable right?

  9. That would be interesting - you look at the specs for NX1 Af and it really is next-generation. AF that could track without jitters would be pretty amazing.

    Here is another vid, every shot was AF - and this is before the 1.3 update that just came out

  10. Released another video all shot in slow motion at the same location as the previous video, actually I shot this at the same time, just didn't cut it together until now. Some tech info is available in the vid description, although it's all essentially the same as that bird tracking vid I did (I shot this material on the same day).

    Kept the video to under 2:30, as birds aren't that interesting lol

  11. It did a real good job. Apologises if it got a bit too wavy, I'd already been shooting stills for 2 and a bit hours. I have noticed some focussing inconsistencies in stills mode with that vND filter though, but they vanish when I shoot without it. My fault for being a cheapskate. :)

    Hi all,

    Here's a video I shot on an impulse (I was actually out and about to take stills) following a seagull doing a marathon flying session in Regent's Park, London.

    Although the video is titled 'tracking' I wasn't using the Tracking AF, I was using C-AF with the default focus box, so technically I was tracking the bird manually by trying to keep it in the box the whole time, gets a little tiring as it's 1) handheld and 2) at 150mm. Literally every scenario is tested, moving towards, away from camera, quiet backgrounds and busy, sky shooting, flying over water. Was pleasantly surprised by the results.

    I was using a cheapo variable ND filter I got on Ebay for £15 or something ridiculous. I believe I could have gotten better results by altering the AF sensitivity functions, but when something happens, I'd rather shoot it than miss the moment fiddling with the camera :-)

  13. I'd just looove to see a video test where that actually works for motion. Hey, maybe Samsung will surprise me, but I think you'll start really missing a focus puller with an FF when you try it...

    I've used it loads. Only published this vid though http://youtu.be/abIuvWgFkgc

    I haven't had a problem with tracking people, even in busy environments. I'll try and do a test with humans pronto. Just thinking I'd probably want to use my Hyperdeck 2 to capture the screen output for more proof. But yeah, manual focus is still my favourite lol

  14. You should be able to set it to SAF and it won't hunt once you've locked a focus point. Active AF that's with SAF but switches to CAF if it notices the focus subject moving. You can also lock it with AF On. Keep your finger on it and it'll lock.

  15. The list of improvements

    • Improved Drive speed under RAW, SAF, Continuous Normal setting
    • Optimized [Fast / Slow Movie] option of FHD 23.98p Movie size
    • Improved Touch AF performance during Movie recording
    • Fixed Smartphone synchronization of Time and Time Zone when you connect Bluetooth
    • Improved the purple noise issue of UHD 23.98p Movie size in the dark condition.
    • Fixed RAW file EXIF GPS information when you use the Geotagging under Smartphone Bluetooth connection
    • Movie STBY condition enable Drive dial button(AF/ISO/Metering/WB)

    Installing it now :-)

    Edit by EOSHD: link to download, go to URL below and click Support http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/smart-camera-camcorder/smart-nx/smart-nx/EV-NX1ZZZBZBGB (no need to use iLauncher app, you just download to your computer, unzip, copy the NX1.BIN firmware file to the SD card root directory and enter camera Device Info menu to update, fully charge battery first).

  16. This is what I did, maximum safety.

    Format the card in camera, plug it into iLauncher, download firmware file into camera.

    Plug camera into wall charger, turn on, navigate to Device Information > Software Update > Update Body Firmware.

    Enjoy the firmware goodness :-)

    Just noticed too, went back into my NX1 just now, under that heading there is now an option for Update Firmware over WiFi. So the next one should be even easier to install.
