  1. I’ll agree, if priced VERY aggressively, it will sell. But that price is going to need to be no more than the competition... Canon, Nikon and Sony... all priced well below $2k.
  2. This looks like a pretty legitimate article... so the "game changer", the "cinema dream" is 6k @ 24 fps? A feature no one was asking for? No flip screen, no PDAF and no built in ND? Disappointing. I think Panasonic will remain a distant last place sales wise. No one had a problem with the image quality of the S1. Personally, I really like the image of the S1. What the majority of people had a problem with was the contrast detect AF and the lack of a flip screen. Built in ND, while nice to have, was never expected on a hybrid... so it didn't lose points for lacking it. Leaving out the two most requested features is a huge disappointment... again! Oh well, nothing to see folks, just a more usable 6k photo mode... that no one asked for.
  3. Well if this camera is going to be an option for major productions perhaps a flip screen and PDAF are not needed. After-all, if one is spending several million dollars on a production it's a given that they would have external wireless monitors and dedicated focus pullers. But for a small operation / one man band, well, a flip screen and PDAF could go a long way to make life easier. Perhaps I misunderstood who this camera is targeting? I'll let Michael Bay know at once.
  4. Well there are two items that were perhaps the biggest complaints on the S1: 1. No flip screen 2. No PDAF If Panasonic omits both of these items... again, we can assume they are properly out of touch with their market. I honestly cannot recall anyone saying, “the S1 would be great... if only it had 6k recording”.
  5. Good catch, but this camera makes more sense imo... especially if it was M43. Remember, atm everything is still rumors, including full frame. I really hope the body is different.
  6. That would have some potential, if the lenses have the coverage.
  7. I thought "H" was for Hybrid? Or was it Heavy? And at $6K? Which bring us to the D5 and 1DXMk2. In two days more we will see what is what.
  8. The D5 and 1DXMk2 are sports cameras.... I'll go out on a limb and guess that AF is pretty important for sports. That is if you want fast paced action shots to be in focus.
  9. It's all speculation at this point. If full frame, I think it harms the sales of the S1/R cameras. And sales are already dismal. If APS-C and priced right, it could be a breath of fresh air. Frankly Idk which it will be. Honestly, I don't think Panasonic should stick with this big and heavy mirrorless format. I think they should adopt a XC15 type format for this camera. So I guess I hope both are incorrect.
  10. Not with the needed accessories it isn't?
  11. There is no confirmation on price. If I were to guess... this should be sub $2k. Does Panasonic intends to challenge the Fuji X-T3? Is this also an answer to the Blackmagic P4k? I'm thinking YES. Plus, what is more synonymous with cinema than APS-C/S35? Proof? We have no proof of the Full Frame rumor either. The fact is either is possible. But to my thinking a $6k Full Frame S1/S1R competitor makes no sense this soon after the release of the L-Mount. APS-C seems more logical.
  12. Well think about it... why kill their already under selling full frame bodies by adding yet a third? Meanwhile, Fuji has been having a runaway success with their X-T3 sales.
  13. This new thread is here because the other thread is apparently wrong. The new camera is NOT FULL FRAME... it’s APS-C. Now things are getting interesting. Specs: Name: Panasonic Lumix V1 24MP APS-C sensor L-mount Internal: 6K 10bit 30p, 4K 10bit 60p, 2K 10bit 60p, 2K 8bit 120p External via SDI: 6K 12bit 60p, 4K 12bit 120p, 2K 12bit 240p 14bit RAW Photos 12fps shutter All-I & LongGOP compression Prores & Prores RAW compression
  14. Wow just noticed it’s APS-C. That price has to be wrong. Now I’m thinking under $2k... which is actually not bad. This would go head to head against the Fuji X-T3.
  15. Those cameras have amazing AF systems. They are sports cameras. They have a professional lens lineup. The are fast and reliable workhorse cameras. Would you use a S1/R V1 for professional sports? What 70-200 F2.8 will you use? Would you trust the AF? I’ll bet some money these will not be replacing the army’s of Canon bodies you see at national sporting events. At $2500 - $3k this makes much more sense. But if anything near $6k, well, good luck with that!
  16. I think one of the things that made the GH4 and 5 so compelling was that you got a lot of camera for the price. Well, it appears those days might be over. With the new price of this hybrid looking to tip the scale at near the $6k mark, it would seem that the “L MOUNT ALLIANCE” also means adopting Leica like pricing.
  17. Well the S1 and S1R both shoot 6k @ 30 FPS... so? Honestly, is more resolution the thing that everyone wants? I don’t have a 6k TV... or monitor? So other than for cropping in...? If these specs are right, well I’m just not seeing the “GAME CHANGER” part?
  18. So they've added 6k photo mode that shoots at a slower 24 fps; rebranded it as a new video mode and added $2400 to the price?
  19. Unconfirmed additional specs: IBIS ND filter price between $5,000 and $6000 Well, now they are getting into some pretty serious competition price wise. This is a hybrid body with no mention of stills capability. And what about AF? I'm not sure this is will be a success sales wise? It's my understanding that the new S series has not been selling particularly well. I don't think this camera will help in that endeavor. The "H" is for Heavy. Also I'm a bit confused... the leaked specs state: Records 10 bit internal... 14 bit Dynamic range?
  20. So we agree... because I said that any of the current prosumer hybrids are capable of professional results. Granted, that doesn't mean they are considered "Pro" bodies. Fyi: Unsane was shot entirely on the iPhone 7.
  21. But this is certainly not true for the Nikon Z6 vs Z7... and iirc the Sony A7R2 was more costly than the A7S2. Only Panasonic charges more for lower resolution sensors (GH5 Vs GH5s). And come to think of it, is not the S1 lower priced than the S1R? And if larger, will it sport a fan?
  22. Well, by that reasoning the iPhone 7 is a “Pro” camera, as I seem to recall it being used on more than one occasion for professional work. But I’m sure you do actually understand that almost no one would consider an iPhone to be a “Pro” camera.
  23. I'm not a professional. I only do this stuff for fun and to capture memories. I do own some "pro" stills cameras... but that does not make me a professional. I'm not sure I would consider the C200 "Pro", though it can capture a lovely image. I'm perfectly happy with the sub $10k prosumer hybrid cameras... as travel cameras. If this new Pani has nice color science and good DR, I may well add it to my collection.... It will be this or the pseudo Medium Format GFX100... which I also think is a pretty sweet camera. Though the size/weight might be a turn off. I need to seem more footage to be convinced. There is nothing wrong with "prosumer". Heck, some of the consumer cameras are pretty dam capable... the Fuji X-T3 comes to mind (really fun to shoot).
  24. So you disagree with the below statement that you omitted? Look, I full well know that many people use GH5/series cameras for weddings, corporate videos maybe even some commercial work. But for myself, I have always considered the GH5 cameras to be more, "prosumer" not professional cameras. I'll go one better than that, M43 in general IMO is not a professional format for stills or video. For still work I consider Full Frame or larger ideal for professional work. In video I look mainly to S35 or larger unless we are talking about ENG cameras... which is not something I am particularly interested in. But again, I will concede, professional work can be produced on any of the better modern cameras. I think part of what makes these hybrids great, is the fact that aspiring creators can use "prosumer" gear and achieve pro results. While Arri and Red are no doubt wonderful cameras. They work best when you have the budget for a crew. Generally productions will have more than one of these on hand as backups. Lenses will run $20K plus each. And that's not even anamorphic. It's exciting to see what Panasonic will bring in the next few days. And I know most here will hope Panasonic prices this body as "prosumer" not "pro".
