is there any plans to explore the option of using these settings on older cameras like A7r mk1 and A6000 which rely on the built-in app "Live View Grading"? 

very nice video. partly why i love coming onto this site. 

i keep telling myself to hold off until XT2 drops below 1k, but these videos make me want to jump in right now! lol.

one thing did caught my attention tho. Andrew posted this in the Canon thread but i haven't see any mention of it in the main XT2 article:

Not necessarily. It may be a Nikon design and Sony's factory just built it.

The one in the X-T2 might be a Sony design, Sony built. Sensor looks very similar to the one in the A6300 to me.

Who knows... All I can say is that the X-T2's colour isn't as nice as I expected it to be, with rather waxy skintones compared to Canon and Panasonic.

It seems the few people who are getting crazy high saturation and crushed blacks on the comparison shot really need to dial down their displays, calibrate them to S-RGB or just plain upgrade.

i would love to see part 2 involves discussion on XT2 colour too.

DJI, are you listening?

i went back to re-read the press release, apparently they did just that but the Inspire 2 and P4 pro stole the lime light. DJI now offer X4s which is the 1" sensor. they havent specifically said it can be mounted on the Osmo grip, but if it has the same mount as the x5/x5r, i dont see why it cant be used as such. exciting time ahead!!

i bet it is too, but the fact that they can do 60fps is impressive. since the camera/sensor module is mounted away from the drone main body may be thats how they can get away with the heat issue. the larger drone body allows it to spread the heat much more effectively (purely my guess).

I'm chasing some shadow detail, just wanting to know if the lossy (think thats Sony's compression name) will screw me over.

Previously had 5d iii and wasn't impressed at all.

Mk1 seems to have more Dynamic Range than Mk 2 bodies.(but useless if lossy robs the DR in post shadow pull)?

Also looking to buy the Hartblei stitch clamp,hence the lightweight body suspended at the adaptor weak  point.

im an A7r mk1 owner but i also have access to the mk2. in my experience, you are getting the mk2 for a few reasons/advantages:

1) IBIS, but if you use TSE, then probably doesnt bother you

2) AF, again TSE lens doesnt benefit from it

3) i found my mk1 A7r suffers from shutter vibration problem for lens above 500g. i dont think A7 mk1 has the same problem, but there is some internal reflection problem (for street lights mostly) that may worth looking into.

4) The mk 2 bodies have better colours. i came across Dave Dugdale's video review of the A7rII and i agree with him that the green does bother still images also (only need to watch the first 3 minutes). By the time you fix the green, the yellow will be thrown off abit, very tricky to get it perfectly right. this is particularly bothersome for asian portraits. Also worth pointing out, there was a significant time gap between A7mk2 and A7rmk2/A7Smk2 release date, as such I am not 100% sure to say this green problem is fixed on A7mk2 (i believe the imaging engine is based on mk1 bodies unlike A7r mk2 new's engine).

EDIT: i cant say for sure, but i think the mk2 DR was better than mk1 (on A7r anyway)

EDIT2: i personally think this whole lossy compression topic is abit over blown.... not once i have made the observation/had the feeling while working on my files that i wish it wasnt so compressed.... but i will use lossless/uncompress filing if available.

Did any later firmware updates give the earlier bodies clean stills raw??

the mark 1 bodies did not get the update. the 14-bit still raw came out for mark 2 bodies Oct 2015, but all firmwares since then for the mark 1 are lens optimisation and no update for raw compression options.

shouldn't be a problem, although i cannot guarantee every R lens will work. but I have a Fuji S5 pro (it's an APSC with a nikon F mount on it), i converted a few R lens (mainly tele 135/180's) and i have no problem using them on the S5. just need to un-do a few screws and replace the mounting metal ring to a F-mount. 

i agree with one of the newspaper just before the vote: the general public is simply not equipped to carry out an sufficiently in-depth analysis to make a decision that they won't regret.

I do feel abit sorry for them. afterall, they got everyone to use the word "GoPro" instead of action cam. but with devices from the far east like YI 4K, and endless cheap copies, they need to try very hard to differentiate from the rest.

In my opinion, like many other western/hi-tech success stories, they cant complete on manufacturing cost, but they can focus on software and user experience which is often very lacking for the far east product. look at osmo mobile vs the far east offerings; or look at some of the chinese phones (ZTE, LeEco, all just about spec spec spec, and the whole thing just doesn't gel together like a finished/polished product) compared to something like an iphone. but instead, as mentioned, they refreshed the hardware, pushed the price up further, and didn't really improve the software side. Look at the control of Karma, especially that tutorials, they need to put alot more work into that....

i reckon they still have a chance to come back, but they need to do it real soon before speculation become reality.  

the TV industry version of HDR, to my simple mind, is just a way of setting minimum requirement for brightness to simulate real life bright objects. i do welcome it after seeing some examples on HDR TV sets. Much less gimmicky compared to 3D and VR.

i tried the Youtube HDR video on my TV (HDR compatible), but i believe google is restricting HDR mode only on Chromecast Ultra, i.e. native TV app did not go into HDR mode.

since nothing he said is true or can be fact-checked, then it may actually be a good sign he will do some good. for one, he is unlikely to build a wall....

the question is, will he get his way? his party isnt exactly on the same page as him. my guess is that, he will actually spend way too much time fighting his own party and gets nothing done (abit like that coalition party [tory and lib dem] in the UK).

im in the same boat. i mostly shoot stills and i have been fuji user (for still) since S3 pro. but since their recent line up cost more and more (not saying it is wrong to do so), i havent made the jump to XT2 yet. at the same time, oly EM1 mk ii with 12-100mm seems like a good one lens setup. my own observation tells me, oly is good at accurate color while fuji always give pleasing color.... i guess i will have to wait and see more reviews/samples.

wouldn't it be totally mind blowing if fuji provide some way of shooting f-log internally and provide you the LUT (internally or via computer) to recreate all their simulation modes. almost like half way house to RAW. 

sorry this sounds like hijacking the topic, how do you guys find olympus (OMD range) color science comparing to fuji?

from reading on the net, fuji seems like the gold standard, i'm just wondering if olympus can keep up? thanks.

(dont worry about DR, or iso performace, just judging purely from color point of view).

There is no way to upgrade camera on Mavic so (according my opinion) its camera should be better than 2 years old GoPro 4 sensor with just 60Mbps.

I do not understand why DJI can still use quite old technology if sensors in smartphones are still better and better every year (and they can handle higher bitrate than 60Mbps). I just wish that there will be Phantom or bigger Mavic one day with similar technology which can be seen in Sony FDR X3000: 4K with 100Mbps + just 8Mpx sensor with "big" pixels + OIS (we can see little shakiness sometimes on Mavic's footage, so why there cannot be OIS if it is in smartphones (?)).

These specs together with 1,5x or 2x zoom lens.... that would be my dream drone. Mavic is really great but I will rather wait ;-)

in my opinion, Phantom 5 or 4 pro will move onto such camera tech, which then leaves room for mavic 2 to take the place (in terms of image quality) of current Phantom 4. i think DJI wants certain image quality differentiation between mavic and phantom.

im hoping DJI is moving towards modular design for all their lines, for example. you can choose different body (payload) to fit your budget/weight requirement then based on that, you can choose certain camera head. e.g. let say there is a X1 camera, then mavic cna take x1 and x3, then phantom can x1, x3 and the lighter x5. then inpsire 1 can take x1, x3, x5 and x5r etc.

before i saw this video i was still of the opinion that karma still have certain advantage like using the GoPro cam itself on and off the drone/stabiliser.....then i saw this ...i truly worry for them.... 

two things hit em the hardest, A) the drone is all over the place, B) i didnt realise the karma drone is so heavy.

im more of a still person than video (yea, probably wrong place to hang out, lol).

my problem with fuji at the moment is that they havent attracted as much momentum as sony crowd does, where people like metabone or third party developer making adatpors to use canon EF/sony A-mount/ nikon F-mount lens. all adaptors are fully manual at the moment. most of my lens are canon mount, so having control over aperture or at least exif will help. but i guess time will come eventually.... 

EDIT: i owned: nikon D40, Fuji S5, XE1, A7r, A6000

light off topic. did you find the XF1 dyanmic range abit better than the XQ1? im using the XQ2 and i was told the XF1 is actually better (with Raw) at recovering highlights.

does GX7 IBIS works with video ? 

that's interesting point. one observation i realise recently is that i read / hear people say how amazing FZ1000 and GX7 are but i dont remember seeing them at least once being used outside a shop... i work normal office hours and my daily commute requires me walking through central london with plenty of tourists.... would be interesting to see how many tourist i see with XC10 in the coming months.... 

almost as if they want to play a game in "seeing impossible" a.k.a. how many box we can avoid ticking.....
