Why is everyone acting so surprised if this is true? I've already said that this is a business decision. Why sell you 4K for $3000 when they can do so for $15000?
There are so many who only know Canon that they'll lap it up.

Light stands

Gah, all the Imperial units. Luckily B&H offers metric.
This list seems to be geared towards bigger productions though. I'll admit to using fairly small LED lights myself...

There is also the focus mechanisms. the nifty fifty for example has a really nasty manual focus mech. as I imagine the 40mm does? Focus pulls look very non cinematic from most af lenses when used in manual mode
Nope, the 40mm is different. As a STM lens it's actually focus-by-wire.

Yes, this is why you cannot compete on mere technical ability alone now. Unfortunate when you're at production level and the managers are not fighting for you.
-
Uh, yea, just like you do HDR on a tripod. Or focus stacking.
-
Also, I believe outsourcing is common these days, no?

It sucks, and not just in VFX. Whatever industry you're in, it doesn't matter the amount of work you do; the further you are away from the "front office", the more "disposable" you are. Reading sunyata's post triggers memories of a bunch of anecdotes that's starting to rile me up even now. >.<

Swivel LCD and video improvements are great. No PDAF though...

Your phone!
But yea, FZ1000 or LX100.

Given that
Yep ....... fact is the lines are getting very blurry in image quality land. By CES/NAB 2016, which camera you buy (based on image quality alone) wont matter much.
For most people out there, their work wont be seen by that many people anyway so it really does come down to personal preference in the end, and as I already said the differences are shrinking very fast.
Coupled with the rise of online streaming the differences in that area might not even mean that much. It's kinda a bit like MP3s in the audio world. It's good enough for most and the convenience won out.

12 and 16 is fairly big at wide angles, try it and you'll see. However I rarely like to use such ultra-wides for video work. Stills definitely, but not video. Maybe for an establishing shot of the scene but to date for actual paid stuff (corporate videos) the widest I go is 24 equivalent.

It's still there?
Edit: Definitely still there.

Gah, another double post. >.<

On the topic of the various VFs: Even with a battery in the OVF of a D5300 with its pentamirror can't match a properly done EVF. Problem is I don't know if the A6000's EVF is going to be like the A7 (terrible live feed with aliasing) or like say, the XT-1 (incredibly sharp with great optics).

Edit: sorry for the double post. Is the website being weird for anyone else today??
OT: I've got a couple of double posts too. Think the forum software is lagging a bit.

The moment you use anything non-Samsung you will not have AF and IS. Both lenses you mentioned have no IS anyway. So if you want AF and IS you must use Samsung lenses.
-
To add to the above, the skill in directing, editing and grading makes a huge difference too.
Both lenses are a bit hard to use manually, as they have very thin focus rings. Plus the 50/1.8 has so much mechanical slop in it.

You know what I liked? Her. That was one beautiful movie.

Wouldn't take the GO, as it's not self-powered.

One of the things many people don't mention is that with cheap DSLRs you get a pentamirror, not a pentaprism, for the OVF. The view is also smaller.

I'm pretty happy with my GH3 but the new Nikon lenses are so nice.
63.7 megapixel raw with the E-M5 II - and finally 24p at 77Mbit!

Hope there's 25/50P for us in PAL countries.
