    Hey everyone,

I got my GH4 the first week of May here in the UK and so far I've been blown away by the image. I came from a 5D MKIII and I can't say that I feel like I'm missing much at the moment. Although I did shoot ML RAW on the 5D, I can't say I miss the workflow and the occasional camera crash... its so good to be shooting 4K without worrying that its going to crap out during a take.

I think I will add a Speedbooster and Sigma 18-35mm next!

Anyway, here is my first few days out with the GH4 around some famous London landmarks. Hope you are enjoying your GH4's!

I think I read the Sigma has a 24 -105mm which is on par with the Canon, maybe it has various mounts?

Henry Gentles reacted to jcs in No wonder Tungsten and Actual Daylight Look Better! Good news for LEDs
The 100W (18W used), 1600 lumen Cree 5000K LED lights were $21 each. They are super bright, and look pretty good. When recording at 24fps, they look OK. However at 240fps (Sony FS700), they flicker. I tested the Yongnuo YN-300, YN-600, and F&V R-300- no flicker at 240fps. The old 120W (45W used) 5100K CFLs don't flicker (though some make noise & buzz). Here's a 60W Cree tested (no flicker at 24/30fps):

Those looking for budget lighting, I'd start with the Yongnuo YN-300: 2280 lumens for $67
    http://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-Professional-300pcs-sheets-Camera/dp/B00AZFE5DS/ref=sr_1_1

and this power supply (in addition to Sony NP-970 batteries for non-AC use), $25:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/110V-220V-AC-Adapter-Power-For-SONY-NP-F970-F960-F750-F550-YN-300-II-YN600-YN160-/291005963183

Based on specs only (not tested), 2 Cree 5000K lights are 3200 lumens for $42 + $20 for 2 clamp-on bulb holders = $62. The YN-300 with AC adapter is $92, however it's also dimmable, camera mountable, doesn't flicker at high frame rates, and can also run on batteries.

The YN-300 II and YN-600 are "bicolor" and more versatile, however they are effectively 1/2 brightness when using the daylight LEDs (I'm using lights in the daylight 5000+ K range).

I'm going to keep looking for LEDs that don't flicker at high frame rates to replace the CFLs. This info is helpful: http://www.davidsatz.com/aboutflicker_en.html

Got my RJ FD - M43 Reducer today and got to say, was pretty surprised at how sharp it is! To my eyes, there's no loss of sharpness and the IQ is increased in my opinion. And the stop of light is great, esp on my Kiron 70 - 200m F4 zoom. So is the focal formula for BMPCC 3 by lens by 0.71?

Henry Gentles reacted to Axel in DIY shoulder support for BMPCC (less than 50 bucks)
This is my fifth attempt to find an affordable stabilization solution for the BMPCC, particularly for the heavy setup with Speedbooster and Sigma 18-35. It works perfectly, and the only two things that are missing are
    1. Pistol grip to be clicked underneath the cage with a quick release plate and
    2. Lanc-controller with button on top of the grip for START/STOP.

It consists of an old, self-built shoulder pad with counterweight (aluminum rack, ~$ 5,- , bent in a vice and padded with foam rubber, ~ $ 2,-), a micro goose neck with 3/8" connections, ~ $ 7,- , filled with a steel rod, ~ $1,-) and a ball head (~$ 30,-).

The ball head allows for fast height- and angle-adjustments. I found this to be the most crucial aspect of all shoulder supports. You both stress your neck with only half an inch of unergonomic proportions and run the risk of unintentionally rotating your frame. Not with this ball head.

If you loosen the ball, you can screw it on or off the cage within 10 seconds.

The counterweight could be substituted with a battery pack, and the rod that helds the goose neck stiff could also be a steel tube (well, perhaps, it could turn out to be too weak then) to hide the cable.

The shoulder pad doesn't look particularly elegant, I'm sure you can do better.

Henry Gentles reacted to Andrew Reid in EOSHD Moderating Team!
I am upgrading some members to moderator status. If they choose to exercise their newfound abilities, this upgrade comes with the ability to delete and lock posts as well as the all powerful, all conquering ability to ban members who misbehave!

Thanks for their positive contributions to life here at EOSHD I am promoting RichG101, mtheory and jonpais to moderator status for the main forum and all sub-sections.

It carries no extra work or obligations - exercising their privileges will be entirely at the discretion of the moderator. I'll continue as the main admin. But I think having extra eyes and ears plus a few more trusted people with the ability to clean up posts and ban members will help me a lot.

Also since they expressed an interest, JohnBarlow will moderate the Anamorphic forum and Andy Lee will get his own sticky thread on lenses and lighting which may build into it's own forum section if it is successful.

I'll create the moderator privileges later in the week. Any objections or any opt outs please have your say on this thread!

Seems I need to clear up some bullshit with a big broom... yet again after leaping to the defence of Blackmagic.

I wonder why I am not on a beach somewhere and instead bothering to provide a free source of info about their cameras.

First off.... Kristian posted the update yesterday not 2-3 days ago as Olly P suggested.

    http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21179

Look at the date and time stamp.

I believe Olly has in mind the very first update about the 4 fixes in the firmware, none of the other details were in that first update last week.

I did not report on that first update like nofilmschool - instead I pushed Blackmagic for more details by email all during NAB because I wasn't satisfied that the original update had enough info in it.

This discussion by email with Blackmagic started a few hours after the new camera announcements at NAB. Yesterday the reply this article was based on came to me as a personal reply from Patrick at Blackmagic directly, fitting like a glove to all the points I'd raised.

I am not trying to take credit for anything I didn't initiate... that's the way it happened and there were other emails following up to it. I am putting the info I had in the email out there. I'm not cutting and pasting it from their forum. To hear some people speak about me with minimal respect is very saddening. To hear them you'd think I was a PR hungry prick grandstanding like Tony Abbott tweeting pictures of himself on the phone to air force commanders or something.

I had not seen that they'd also posted it on their forum. I don't follow nofilmschool either. I really don't care who should take the credit for the update or whether Patrick was emailing me a cut and paste job.

Important thing is I got put the info in your hands and it came to me direct from the source.

I just bought it and it should arrive around Feb 20 (seller is away due to closing of postal office, chinese new year).

Ill update when it arrives. From what I have read so far, it doesnt match up to the Metabones (but its 1/3 of the price, so I can't complain too much.)
