  1. True. All of my LEDs are daylight balanced, and I have some 5500k CFL bulbs for those handheld worklights and some 5x45w 5500k CFL softboxes which I rarely use these days. I'm about to do some tests with 4000k CTS gels. CTO is too orange for my liking with the 5D.
  2. The upside to tungstens is they're cheap. The downsides: they're power hungry, hot, and a bit fragile. You have to be weary of single phase power loads, something I've never had to think about with LEDs. When you factor in the cost of bulbs, LEDs work out cheaper over the life of the fixture. LEDs are also a lot easier to work with on location running off v-mounts instead of generators. @Liam The first lights I ever bought were a few $10 handheld work lights from a hardware store and an assortment of daylight and tungsten CFL globes up to 24w. I also bought a 2x 500w tungsten worklight for about $50. The standard bulbs are too warm, but you can buy 2700k bulbs for them. Ikea have some cheap fixtures and high CRI LED bulbs; you can use them as practicals too.
  3. I wanted to get the Lupolux, but they're so damned expensive; the NanGuangs are similarly specced. I'm planning on getting at least a couple of the Scorpions; very cool design. You can never have too many gels.
  4. On Ebrahim: I like his enthusiasm; it's when that enthusiasm turns into passing himself off as something he's not that it becomes a problem. Obviously he's got some issues, but he's a smart kid and I hope he can get himself sorted out. In this business reputation is everything, and it takes a long time to build trust and respect. I'm not gonna hunt him down on the other forums, and if he's not banned from those forums my advice to him is this: mate just be yourself, talk about the knowledge you have with your camera, don't give any more advice based on stuff you read somewhere; sure we all do that from time to time, but we have a lot of first hand experience that you don't have, and people believed that you did. I can understand why you did it, but it's not cool man. We live in a time where people are desperate for attention. People have killed themselves because they couldn't get followers on social media. When I was 21 there was no social media, and I can see how it fucks kids up. The best way to get people to like you is to work hard, do good work, and be genuine. It's not the Trump way, but he's an arsehole who's bound to get us all killed if people fall for his shit. As far as punishment goes: I think redemption is a thing, and maybe we could think about how Ebrahim can redeem himself and be allowed back after a period of time. Even though he passed himself off as something he's not, he was trying to be helpful. Now I know this idea won't be popular with everyone, but I suggest they have a look at Michael Moore's 'Where to Invade Next', particularly the part about the rehabilitation of criminals in Norway. We are doing it so wrong in the US and Aus. He's a kid, he fucked up, he's taken steps to make amends; yes we had to go hard for that to happen, but I think this is an opportunity for us to help a kid who needs it. peace out.
  5. I'm kinda over the latest greatest camera obsession; I've been burnt too many times. The A7s was a big disappointment, I wasted a lot of time testing that damned thing. The BMMCC too to a lesser extent; not a bad camera, just not quite up to my requirements. I was an early LED adopter, I bought my first 2 panels from China in 2009; I lit this with 'em: The CRI on those is quite low, very green, and they're not very bright, but they got the job done, even used them for the lightning effect. I've got about 15 LEDs in various sizes and types. This year affordable high quality LEDs have really come of age. I'm really impressed with the build and light quality of the NanGuang fresnels. I wrote up a mini review here: I'm working on an LED mod for an old Tilley lamp, just waiting for a li-ion battery to arrive and I'll post about it. Not super powerful but gaslights aren't very bright anyway. I'm using a bunch of them as practicals in GAMMA in a addition to a few LED fresnels. There's plenty of great camera options available now, it's the less glamorous things like LEDs and 12v foggers I've been hunting down so I can get shots like this in the zone with a crew of 2:
  6. Mods, this should not be allowed to continue.

You'll have to ask my grandfather. Pro tip: take a first aid kit. A mate of mine face planted into a hole. It's a long walk to call an Ambo.

I haven't had any run-ins with the bitter never made it crowd here, and the mods aren't fascists. There's some talented peeps on other forums I'd like to see migrate here.

I've started a behind the scenes blog for my feature http://gamma-movie.com/behindscenes.php I'm going to start a thread here and repost the blog entries for discussion. I'm also going to post an article called "The anatomy of a short" where I'll break down everything that went into the making of a short film.

It's like the cyberspace equivalent to a natural disaster. When a bushfire destroyed 7 houses in my street, neighbours who barely knew each other worked together and the hood turned into a real community.
  11. I expect the Mark 4 to be as radically different as the Mark 3 was from the Mark 2: a one stop high ISO noise improvement, highly compressed 4k, and maybe slightly higher dynamic range. MJPEG and cLog would be nice but unlikely.
  12. So it appears. It's not the antagonist who gets to write the third act.
  13. "If I were a scammer" The crook's still playing the victim.
  14. Ebrahim the radiologist, Ebrahim the dentist, or Ebrahim the filmmaker?
  15. It would probably cost fuck all to sick a debt collector on him. A lot of Anons follow me on twitter, so I could put the word out if he doesn't comply.
  16. I reckon they'd be up for it for the lulz. I wonder if he's been cheating on his exams. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my teeth
  17. I have a 5D Mk3 with Magic Lantern and a Micro Cinema camera. After doing extensive testing I still prefer the 5D. It's less noisy and has more usable dynamic range than the BMMCC. Magic Lantern are working on the 7D Mk2 firmware, but there are no guarantees that it will work.
  18. I say we give Ebrahim 30 days to pay back all the money before we go full medieval on his arse on his social media, and give all the evidence we've collected to the Egyptian police. My uncle (by marriage) is Egyptian by the way, so I could ask him to facilitate the police report. I've had enough of this kid wasting our time with his games.
  19. You're all on drugs, that's it, isn't it? I come clean about my Chewbacca abduction and the kid is still lying his arse off. Ebrahim, I'm sure your friends and family already knew you're full of shit. The following is stuff I shared privately with other members: If Ebrahim was scammed ask yourselves why he wrote a post stressing that the rangefinder scam isn't an offence. Do does that sound like something a victim would do? Do you think if this kid had access to a 1Dc he wouldn't be showing it off on the forum? The one about the serial number being another number if it's not the serial number, I love that one. I can tell you guys if this happened while I was a mod at cinema5D we'd be discussing a permanent ban. We banned a guy for a lesser evil. Excerpts from some of Ebrahim's dubious 1Dc related posts: Feb 1: Post on 1DxII specs “Canon went full in. I just wish they do the same for the 5D IV that I can afford and not cripple the video mode.” Feb 23: “Since it looks we'll be shooting Technicolour Cinestyle on the 1DXII if we want a LOG workflow, This is trying Cinestyle on 1DC." Looks like upscaled Canon 1080p H.264, not 1DC 4k. May 18: Ebrahim started a thread: Canon 1DX-II vs. 1DC - Which one would you buy? In the first post he said: “I am torn between the two” May 24: “If I buy the 1DXII I'll be pulling focus with the touch screen more than the focus ring I am sure” May 29: “I have been testing that signal a lot lately on the 1DC.” June 1: “I’ll get the 1DC now. Made my decision for me when I am setting on my couch! Thank you ALOT. You're a very valuable addition to the forum. “ July 5: “It's my favorite camera (1Dc) of all time and I spend a lot, and I mean A LOT to get one for my company, triple the price of a new unit (country customs) reproaching epic/F55 territory in price.” July 9: “The 1DC is a LONG and SLIM camera! Nothing funnier than how it looks with my Ninja Blade on the hot shoe. VERY awkward to hold.” July 11: “I've shot 35mm film for decades…” and “If these differences don't make a difference AT ALL then I have wasted A LOT of time and money shooting on the 1DC and could've just shot the a7s MK one since the day it came out” and “filming is a hobby that I enjoy besides my work as a hospital ER physician/Senior PhD Radiologist” I find it more than a little strange that there’s no unboxing shots, no first footage, no “hey guys guess what I got”. My take is Ebrahim (21yr old student) has been playing us from the start grabbing info off the web and passing it off as his experience. The kid’s a wannabee. I haven’t come across anything he’s shot, no camera tests, nothing but talk. If anyone is still buying anything Ebrahim says I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
  20. We are from the internet. This is an anarchistic community. We have no leaders. The evidence was thoroughly examined, righteous calls were made, and we acted. We do not forgive, we do not forget. We are legion. ES should have expected us.
  21. Yeah, but would you trust him with the keys to your gear closet.
