  1. Non working pros speaking on nothing they know of..... This attitude online definitely needs to stop, especially when enthusiasts such as yourself do not respect professionals being paid for their work and putting out great projects. I would like to see someone here put together a project this fast with more than likely a minimal budget and pressed for time. Acting was not the best, but overall I would say it was a pretty good project and definitely showed what can be done with this camera.

    Haha. Get a grip, mate.

I didn't say the DoP's work was shit. I said the "C300 MKII looks shit" - the colours, the motion-cadence, the highlight roll-off. Don't put words in my mouth. You're trying to teach me a lesson in respect by disrespecting me? How sophisticated and wise of you. Get off your moral high-horse.

And, well, hmmm, I dunno, "J.F.R", but I like to consider myself a "professional". Yeah, I didn't go to filmschool, nor am I apart of any cinematography society, but I think my portfolio in my signature speaks for itself. Or, perhaps you're right and all those famous musicians and their management teams are wrong for hiring me - cause, I mean, after all, according to you, I'm a "non working pro" - just an "enthusiast" that knows nothing, right?

    Move along.

  2. You're basically looking at Sony FS7 money for this camera. Granted it's a bit higher resolution, but I'm very much leaning towards the Sony.
I'm guessing the BM will be more difficult to work with. I love the global shutter, but I personally value a higher ISO and built in ND filters more.
And while the BM camera is very cinematic, I feel that it seems all the images are just a bit darker. I think this camera requires well lite subjects
    to give its best.

As for cinematic, the FS7 seems to do a pretty good job at the cinematic look, provided you grade for that look.

Haven't seen a single decent looking FS7 video. FS7 suffers from the same crappy motion-cadence that the FS100, FS700, F55, and F5 do.

The only current Sony camera that doesn't suffer from this "video-ish" motion-cadence is the Sony F65. And that's because it employs a mechinal-shutter. The motion of these other Sony's look awful.

  3.  now i know that this new camera with bigger sensor and 5000 bagllion dynamic range will make me better film maker  those 8 other camera that i  have are keeping my creativity down but i know this is the one

This camera, like all the other cameras I own (A7s, GH4, BMPCC), will pay itself off in one hit. F**k it. Who cares. Buy it. Work it off. Don't like it - sell it.

I've been planning on going back home to Syria to do a documentary about my fellow Syrian Christians. Right now I have a BMPCC + x0.58 Speed Booster + Shogun. I like the setup, but find it tedious sometimes - stringing it all together and all. If the URSA Mini is all that in one package, which it seems to be, and more, then I'll grab one.

A single one-day corporate video will pay it off. Buy shit. Use it. Have fun with it. Keep the show rollin'.

  4. Ha!

True. Jumped the gun on this one, didn't read it really to be honest. Too much excitement and curiosity.

Really just want a BMPCC with same sensor and all, just with 50/60P (or more) added.

  5. "BMPCC eats the C300 alive", you can't be serious here, are you?

the bmpcc has an aliasing and moirè that even foliage and grass looks wierd, architecture? oh man ...

I had it for one year for aerial videos, aliasing and moirè everywhere! I now use the bmpc4K, that's much better.

bm cameras are worflow cameras, c100/300 are events cameras.. different tools for different jobs. c500 with external 4k recorder rocks.

Very serious. I've never had a problem with aliasing and moire on my BMPCC.

  6. Never, ever liked the C300. Most overrated camera of all time. Thin 8-bit colour junk. Crayon skin-tones. A log profile with a bit-depth that would shit itself the second you pushed it. Glorified Canon DSLR. People rave on about the ISO performance. Who needs more than 1600 anyway? If you need more than 1600, nine times out of ten says you probably shouldn't be shooting in that type of light to begin with. I have an A7s, and 3200 is overkill as is. The C300 wasn't popular because it allowed the ability to create an aesthetically pleasing image. It was popular because it had an EF-mount and good ergonomics. It was also a camera a lot of Canon DSLR users bought because they thought their clientele would take them more seriously. And ridiculously enough, they did.

I'd take a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera over a C300 in a heartbeat. BMPCC eats the C300 alive. As for comparing the C300 to an Alexa - that's ludicrous. That's like comparing a Toyota Corolla to a Mitsubishi Evo. They're both reliable and do their job, but the former is an mediocre, all-rounder, the latter is a work of art that shames super-cars.

  7.

As for 'a mistake' to publish the blog post early. A mistake is one thing, to Tweet about it and Facebook it quite another :)

Exactly. It has click-bait written all over it :P

The biggest mistake for me was the ISO 800 vs ISO 12,800 sample images. The images are identical, with the ISO 12,800 having its brightness level upped a little. He could have at least waited for the rowers to change position/exit frame before taking the supposed ISO 12,800 image..

Ah well. Back to waiting on that GH4 firmware update...
