  1. Hate me, but... Get both. the vari-str will let you rack focus, while strong power diopters will solve your super close focus issue (+1 and +2). You switch between them (vari and regular) according to the shots. My guess is that you'll keep the variable on for most of the time. The difference between the Rangefinders is indeed what @IshootbeforeItalk said, size. And the markings. SLR Magic wanted to have a really cheap option out there. Small correction though, the minimum focus for the Recilux CoreDNA is 0.7m, but 0.5m for the 3FF-W. Lastly, I know you watched, but it works as a reminder, how to get a cheap 72mm +0.5 http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=9053
  2. It's been on my plans for a while, but I want a real script instead of just random shots for these, as I'm not really testing anything, just showcasing. :P As for the purple aperture, I did very few tests before sending it away, and there was just NO WAY to compete with the orange/amber version.
  3. I got a few of them by the end of the tutorial. Not sure if they're enough to satisfy your craving. hahaha https://youtu.be/h_pyRS6vzdU?t=3m12s Yeah, on the bright side, it forced me to think about the lenses I think are really worth keeping, and the ones I was just collecting - which would be a waste of money and space, in my case.

  5. Yeah, mine was Mk I, and it was 0.75. I used regular chinese step rings on it. http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=7901 If yours says 16:9 video attachment, the stretch is 1.33x, because it was designed to turn 4:3 projectors into 16:9
  6. It shouldn't be larger... I had one and it was regular 95mm. Which version do you have? Mine was Mk I.
  7. if you don't wanna pay for the EOSHD guide, mine is free. (and better. hehehe) www.tferradans.com/anamorphic
  8. SO good to get someone in town to chime in! hahahaha Thank you very much. I live reasonably close to Boundary and 1st, it's gonna be a quick stop for me this week.
  9. If you're following the facebook conversation, there's a deeply disturbing chat there. I'm not involved and my blood is boiling.
  10. Timotheus, did you ALSO buy the Egyptian Rangefinder?
  11. The past month and a half were a thrilling roller coaster ride with PayPal and unsure if the seller was true to his word or not. It turned out he wasn't, but I still got my money back. If you want more info and the whole story, read http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=9173 Have you ever had trouble with sellers or buyers and products that were different than advertised?
  12. The title is pretty clear, I believe. I got a couple Century Optics adapters but they came without the locking screws. Any hints on finding (or making) replacements? Thanks! :D
  13. The 1.33 doesn't come with the diopters. They're usually sold together, but it's not mandatory. As for the 2x, you can see its performance with the close ups in my review - http://tferradans.com/blog/?p=8331. I'd STRONGLY recommend having diopters for proper results using the Anamorphot 2.0x Andrew Chan, from SLR Magic, recommended testing another 85mm with the 2x anamorphot, since the Jupiter 9 gave weird results, but I haven't had time to do that yet.
  14. www.tferradans.com/anamorphic - for overall information about your questions! and I would recommend a Century Optics small adapter (or the SLR Magic 1.33x Anamorphot) as an all arounder with nice flares, distortion and edge artifacts. http://tferradans.com/blog/?p=7670
  15. I just posted a review about this same lens, if you wanna check it out! http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=8997
  16. Thanks! I hope it gets picked up quickly. I once thought I would never sell my Foton-A, but then I did it. Same happened for my first WS-13, then my second. Then I felt the same way about this Isco42. So far, the only lens that I haven't even considered selling was the Isco pre36 rehoused by Van Diemen, because it was my first truly awesome lens, and also because we went through a lot together - it was in a miserable state when I bought it, so I had to get it polished, then the body was a wreck and I got it rehoused. I've dumped so much money into it that it's kind of pointless selling it now. hahahaha. I also think my second Foton-A should stay with me for a long time. I'm always looking for something to shoot with it but never have the chance. My criteria is "it has to be easy to handle and deliver a unique look while respecting high quality standards". It's easy to fit lots of lenses into this description, but some of them feel more special. Buying and selling lately acquired a different meaning for me.
  17. Up for sale is the incredible Iscorama 42. I thought I'd never let this one go, but guess what? Single focus operation, a little bigger than the 36, the sharpest of all Iscos, multi coated. Front thread is 82mm and rear thread is 67mm. Glass is absolutely perfect, no scratches, no blemishes, no fungus or separation. Minimum focus is 2m, but that's solved by the complete achromat set that goes with it (SLR Magic +0.33, +1.33 and +1.8), they're all 77mm and I'm including an 82-77mm step down ring. The achromats go in their original boxes and are completely immaculate. I added a custom-made seamless focus gear to it, that covers the entire span of focus - the front element travels quite a bit, so you're ok while using follow focus too. It also comes with a Redstan clamp at the back, with rear thread of 58mm to attach to taking lenses. Super high quality. It goes with both original front and rear caps. The ONLY defect in this lens is the fact that the alignment ring is missing its rubber strip. It came like this when I got it, and it never had any effect in my use of it (I actually took months to realize it was missing). It's vignette free from 50mm and up on full frame (you can get away with a 40mm pancake), and around 35mm on S35. Stretch is 1.5x, which leads to slightly longer-than-cinemascope final output when shooting 16:9 If you want more info, here's my detailed review - http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=7633 You can see more photos at - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ferradans/albums/72157669199418791 Price: $3600 shipped. 19. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/-/262472728143 I'm selling an adapted 72mm +0.5 Tamron. I shot a tutorial about how to do it, but I have zero need to keep this filter so it's going away. I can give you a discount if we bypass ebay. Send me a message.
  20. Phew, this one is wrapped. Using different methods, I managed to get a decent cut, and here's a detailed tutorial on how to do it yourself! http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=8922
  21. To test out horizontal fov and wideness, try the Anamorphic Calculator! http://www.tferradans.com/blog/?p=8615
  22. Get it, it's a good price. Nothing special about it, people tend to thing singlets are awful, but they're not. They're not as great as an achromat, but that's pretty much it. Unless we're talking about $5 kits, from china. These might be bad, at the edges mostly.
  23. 86mm is hard, but I bet you don't need 86mm since the anamorphic front is smaller. Keep an eye on my youtube channel ( www.youtube.com/tferradans ) as I'll teach cheap diopter tricks over the next two weeks!
  24. Will do. it'll probably happen in the next two-three weeks.
