1. Holy poop. I'm sold. (Except for the fact that I have no money"
 2. I don't know a whole lot about the OM-D. Where you thinking about any NEX in particular? The NEX 5 has recently been reduced to an insanely priced $398, which would leave you some money to buy a few great lenses. What kind of locations will you be going to and what do you like to take pictures of? http://www.amazon.com/Sony-NEX-5N-Compact-Interchangeable-Touchscreen/dp/B005IHAIMA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1348325601&sr=8-7&keywords=nex+5
 3.
I haven't been disappointed by the RX 100 (used on two jobs so far) but there are a few things I would have liked to have known before I bought it. Hope that's of use to somebody!
Very much so, I'm thinking about buying simply because I hate lugging a DSLR everywhere. Do you have any footage you can share with us?
 4.
According to Phillip Bloom, Nikon D600 does not have manual control in video
It does - just lack of aperture control in live view
 5. Went to best buy today with my dad to help him pick out a compact camera (he picked the S100!) and much to my surprise, I found a D600 sitting there! I stuck a card in and shot a bit of footage with it. Moire is definitely there, which makes me sad. Though its nothing we aren't used to...better than the D800 I think. Still there Its funny, thought i've already read you can't change the aperture in live view, I was so excited to see the camera there that I completely forget about this fact. As i'm a canon shooter, it took me forever to figure how to change the ISO, then the shutter speed, but I was like "How the !@#$#!@$ do a change the aperture!" Got home and realized...
 6.
The Making of 'Deep Green'....additional footage starts at 03:00 The soundtrack and behind the scenes glimpses are of interest. (the YouTube footage is heavily compressed) http://youtu.be/GCNgphOaWRg?hd=1
So, is the aliasing there because they filmed it at 720p? I would really like to see some 24p footage to see if its as clean as the 5DIII
 7.
Moire and aliasing is certainly there on the D600 as much as the D800. Seems similar looking at my footage.
Well damn.
 8.
Can anyone confirm the rumour that you cant change the aperture in LiveView for video? IF so, this is a deal breaker.
Several reviews have confirmed that this is indeed true. I can't see this not being fixed in firmware though. Heres a nice overview of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IosQ4xCJBB0
 9.
Sure - I thought the same thing, except for a few big problems I discovered: Cannot adjust aperture in Live View while recording (why this oversight??? argh.) Pitifully inadequate codec (max 24mbps H264) and unlikely to be hacked. Carrying around an external recorder at all times is simply not practical. Unknown moire situation (could be fine, but until testing, this is an unknown). Otherwise, I do think the D600 is very cool. But those issues really do kill it being a perfect alternative to the 6D. Sad, because Nikon could have blown Canon out of the water.
Hopefully the aperture thing will be fixed with firmware. Seems silly! In all of the footage I've seen so far the moire seems to be gone! It looks to be a beautiful image. I'm excited/hopeful to see more
 10. I am very underwhelmed by the GH3 footage so far. The colors just look strange to me
 11.
I thought it was strange at first, too. But then I thought - what's the BFD? No one is going to rely on the built-in mic anyway...so with the help of a $30 cable, you can monitor audio from the audio input jack. Or, if you're using a Beacktek XLR unit, that has its own headphone jack. Once you've set the levels on the Mk III to match the Beachtek, why would anyone need a headphone jack on the Mk III? The 6D seems otherwise a great way to save $1000+ and get a more nimble 5D body.
OR just get the D600 for the same price and headphone jack :)
 12.
I hope Andrew gives us a heads up on this camera.
Agreed. It is very intriguing especially if aliasing is fixed!
 13. I have to say, I have been watching every single promo and demo video from this week, and Nikon's by FAR looks the best to me so far! I need to start looking at Nikon lens options. Anyone have suggestions? Is this camera weather sealed?
 14.
Hmm, looks like it is new. Looking at the sample video on Canon's web site, there seems to be quite a bit of Moire, even through the compression...
I'm hoping thats because they filmed at 720x60. And possibly had the sharpening way up. I think the canon video looks terrible. Waiting for someone who knows what they are doing to get their hands on it
 15.
6D is official. Anyone find it suspicious that, after all these years, both Canon and Nikon release a budget full frame model within a few weeks of each other?
what exactly would be suspicious about it?
 16. Philip bloom video and write up!!! http://philipbloom.n.../09/15/genesis/ https://vimeo.com/49420579
 17.
I know it's personal flavor....but man, "why the video look?" i wonder sometimes. The best one was a 30p bmc test on a cinema camera.
That was my other issue with this video. Why shoot at 60p unless you're going to slow it down. I also have to wonder if they have some kind of in camera sharpness settings cranked way up
 18.
Here's a music video that I helped shoot. The cameras used was the Panasonic GH2, Nikon D7000 and Canon 7D. The Panasonic SD600 was used briefly. I was just one of the camera people so I didn't do the editing.
That child needs more clothes on
 19.
Philip Bloom is "the face" of videography technology demonstrator, like the man from Del Monte they need him to say "Yes" because all the lemmings need to be told what is good and what is not by someone with an English accent. Quite frankly I find him condescendinig on his reviews and actually rather rude. Thats said he is pretty good at what he does as a filmmaker. Does Andrew feel the hurt of not being invited? If I was Panny I probably won't extend my invite to Andrew because he is too opinionated and goes off on a tangent like a drunkard on a pup crawl, not the sort of PR guy a manufacturer look for to promote their gears :o
If by condescending and rude you mean incredibly fair and honest then sure! He is a brilliant filmmaker and does a ton to help this community. As does Andrew here
 20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FBJI_wVtDl8 Heres another A99 video. Aliasing everywhere....bleck:/
 21.
That's Focus Full or Focus Limit switch. On certain auto focus lenses you can set a focus limit range so auto focus isn't hunting in areas you don't want it to.
Oh, that makes much more sense :) Thought it might be some kind of kind of electronic focus control mechanism! Silly me
 22. At 1:20 in the video, there is a switch on the lens that says "Focus pull." Anyone know what this is??
 23. Hmm, I wonder if this rules out a 7D mark 2 anytime soon. I was hoping for an updated weather sealed APSC canon camera, but I suppose this works too!
 24.
Are you serious? So you ask everyone in front (or behind the camera) to maintain the exact same level of sound of whatever they're saying or doing throughout the entire shot... man you really have an amazing control over your cast/crew/surrounds! So you think cameras and audio recorders come with audio level displays just so you can sit there watching your audio clip and not do anything about it? Have you ever even seen anyone (properly) recording audio?
My what a difference in philosophy we have. Have you ever heard someone speak at the exact same volume ever? When you listen to music, does it stay the exact some volume 100% of the time? Dynamic range is not just a term used in the video world. Dynamics are what make music and sound sound natural! Audio meters are there so that you can check and set your levels properly for the event or scene that is going to take place! Sure if they are clipping like heck you will want to turn them down, but why let them get there in the first place, just set them correctly to begin with! If the audio needs a little leveling out in post, thats what automation and compressors are for!
